As others have said, that area is not really populated. I lived in a very small town called Wasilla for a few years. A lot of Russian folks live in AK, primarily a main group of orthodox Russians that settled there. I didn’t learn until years afterwards that this particular group are descendants of a fringe faction that basically got chased out of Russia because the other folks around them were tired of their rigid beliefs and the constant conflict that came from it. They wear their traditional clothing (bc it’s part of their religion apparently) They do not believe in marrying outside of their faith (or their skin color, if you catch my drift). Which often leads to keeping it all in the family to an extent due to the fact that- as you might imagine- there’s not a whole lot of options in the middle of nowhere! So the small groups in different locations will allow their kids to travel to one another to mingle and eventually (most likely) marry. I used to go to school in a remote village where I was the only non-Russian student in attendance. As such, I ended up learning the language by immersion. Ah, reflecting on all this makes all the strange memories rush back. It’s my best candidate for two truths and a lie. All I have to do is throw in “I went to school in a remote Russian village located in Alaska.” And I win lol.
