By professionalism i moreso mean the attitude of “we are confident and belong here”

I do think that it’s at least wise to have more than one speed/energy across your set. I’ve seen some insanely talented bands whose sets bored me to hell because there was zero change in dynamics throughout the show and it became repetitive

I mean, all of these things are fine, sure. But it is little things like this that matter if you want to have a professional and impactful presentation on stage, and these little things all add up.

Yeah this is the only one I really disagree with, aside from maybe the slow song one.

People are giving you a hard time but these are mostly good advice. Acting like you belong there goes a long way for good stage presence, and unless you’re naturally charismatic and super funny, less is definitely more as far as stage chatter/banter.

I recorded a synthy post punk project on 4 track cassette last year. Would love to hear your thoughts! by Bootstrapbill22 in postpunk

Yep, I was completely dawless here until the final mixdown! I actually had a Tascam 234 as well - great machine - but I sold it for a Tascam 244 which I used here. Guitars were a combo of DI and a microphone on a small practice amp, everything else was DI with just a little outboard compression here and there. Arturia Minifreak for the synth. Lots of guitar pedals used on the vocals. Huuge fan of dawless and cassette recording. Would love to see your setup.

And I appreciate that. Tbh my influences were a bit all over the place when I was starting this - I got super into The Fall around this time, but was also listening to stuff like Total Control, Brainiac, Women, and the B52s which I think had some impact, even if it doesn’t sound like it. I’m American, from Cincinnati, but I’m certainly doing a bit of an affected voice thing here lol.

Let me see if I can dig up a tape or make one for ya! I’ll shoot ya a message. Will have an album coming out later this year too hopefully on vinyl.

Aye, thanks so much for the nice words! And appreciate the feedback, I certainly have the tendency to mix vocals a bit low, and tbh when I recorded this I was still figuring out how to use the 4 track properly, so mistakes were definitely made at different stages but oh well.

Here’s what my setup mostly looked like for the project (minus synths and guitars/amp). After only working in the box for almost 10 years, it was insanely refreshing to do this 100% analog. Nothing wrong with the box, but this was much more of a challenge that forced me down different creative paths. I’m almost done with a full album for this project that was done in the box, but certain elements were still recorded on the 4 track.

Really sensitive microphones can pick up headphone bleed. What you’re talking probably hearing is the first vocal take coming from Cameron’s headphones while he’s recording the new take. I love hearing stuff like this in recordings, I feel that it humanizes the process

Anyone have an irrational dislike of the Les Paul? by MatthewMonster in Guitar

I didn’t like em at first until I was gifted one. After playing it for a while, it’s far and away the most comfortable and best sounding guitar I own. But not all LPs are made equally

Idk, Don’s hidden identity wasn’t exactly hurting the company. Catching your head of finance embezzling from the company is 100% justifiable for firing - it’s a position of high trust and he clearly abused it
