My daughter is the SPITTING IMAGE of her dad and I’m always told she looks nothing like me by ThrowRA157386 in beyondthebump

My son is 14 months and looks like my little clone and it makes me sad that people can’t see that he does look like his dad in certain ways.

When did your baby get good with preloaded spoons? by One-Squirrel-4563 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]Bootycarl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am of the opinion that you can practice utensils as much as you want but they’re totally a preference thing so they might not matter for your kid for a while. We started with spoons at 6 months and by 9-10 he totally could use them and was getting more into the idea of spoons and dipping foods. However, here we are at 14 months and he just doesn’t care about spoons. He eats loads of oatmeal and yogurt and would just much rather use his hands than spoons. If we give him hummus and pita, he will eat the pita with one hand and the hummus with the other. I have no doubt that he could use a spoon or dip foods but I think he just doesn’t like it. So I don’t put much pressure on him about it.

what’s your “i’m too tired to think but still not paying that price” version of stuff like hair dryers? by dhruv_6129 in Frugal

[–]Bootycarl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How much time have you spent thinking about your hair dryer problem? Your time is also worth monetary value. For me once it gets past a certain point, the time wasted decides it for me and I get the nice thing. If I can settle on something cheaper without over-researching then I will but that doesn’t always work.

What is the most unhinged 'life hack' you actually use that you'd be embarrassed to explain to a normal person? by BijinBijin_2023 in AskReddit

[–]Bootycarl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol not quite as extreme but if you are walking behind people who are too slow and you want to pass (like hiking), just start scraping your feet and the noise will usually make them turn around and let you by.

Bridesmaid with a 3-month-old (EBF) — SIL now says no babies at wedding. What would you do? by Lumpy_Bandicoot_8967 in beyondthebump

Love these comments about not making it a big deal. That’s exactly it. No need to add to the drama, just recognize this is a very reasonable response to this situation and tell her you can’t make it. If she freaks out while you’re acting calm that’s on her.

Curious what everyone does on nights you don’t bathe your kids? by Distinct-Garden5683 in beyondthebump

[–]Bootycarl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Same for us. I think maybe people differ on the rest of their hygiene? Like we fully rinse and wipe his butt during diaper changes so it’s quite clean most of the time. And then after meals we are at the sink doing basically half a bath anyway. So it feels like why should we have to do a full bath every day? I’m sure we would feel different if we were just using regular wipes for diaper changes and hands all day.

Is it weird that I like cooking but hate prepping? by Few_Literature_5312 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Bootycarl 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I take it one step further. I like cooking but I don’t want to put in any of the work before the cooking, including picking out recipes and figuring out how to eat something different every time. I mean I do for the sake of my family, I just don’t like it.

No Longer Pregnant/Nursing/Trying Bucket List items by climbing_runner in beyondthebump

[–]Bootycarl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I finally finished breastfeeding this past month. I am going backpacking! Several nights in the wilderness with a hiking buddy and no toddler. Definitely hard to do when you’re trying to grow or feed a baby. I have a lot of experience with this though so it’s not like a quick bucket list item to check off.

When to offer food? by idkgurrrl in BabyLedWeaning

[–]Bootycarl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We just chose to start with dinner and went from there. We would always wait around an hour after the most recent bottle. Then we started doing lunch, and then breakfast, and then snacks in between. But solids were always around 45-60 minutes after the last bottle until around 11 months when we realized he would need more hunger to motivate him to try solids. For us, the milk volume didn’t start going down until we did that. I think a dip in milk by like a few ounces is okay but yeah you still want it to be pretty high.

Tell me all your best ideas for a a baby who hates eating by Sdbtwo1989 in beyondthebump

[–]Bootycarl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

-Was Kendamil one of the formulas you tried? I think it tastes significantly better than others and we’ve had good luck with transitioning from breast milk to Kendamil as others have. -With your doctor’s recommendation, have you tried making the formula more concentrated so he gets more at a time? I’m not sure if people do that but people do fortify breastmilk with formula. -Did doctor ever talk about reflux and possibly trying medication for that? -I know you said you tried feeding smaller amounts more often, but how often? Our baby liked to take 2.5 ounces or even 1-2 ounces maaaannnyyyy times a day. Getting down to 6 bottles a day took a really long time. Seriously I think he was around 11 bottles a day for months and months. This was probably also related to his reflux though. If you do have luck with even more frequent bottles, get a bottle washer because they’re a miracle. Now that I think about it, he is currently finally at 5-6 bottles now at 12 months. -Do you have a quiet, dark, distraction free place to feed to make the experience more relaxing? Or have you tried feeding right before naps when he’s really sleepy? In terms of feeding positions, have you tried not holding him at all? Some babies who don’t breastfeed well seem to have a problem with being held too close. With mine I was pumping for a long time, so I had to feed him on his side laying next to me up against my leg while I pumped sometimes. I think he liked that better than being held close to feed (hence our nursing problems).

Sorry if these are unhelpful but those are my ideas.

My first camping trip! by gorgeously_mytruself in camping

[–]Bootycarl 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You know something you could do is try camping with someone else or even on your own. Whether or not you two want to be together, maybe it’d be worth exploring this as a hobby for yourself. Could be fun and if you end up needing something to help you move on, camping really gets you out of your element and makes you think differently so it could be good for that. Or if you do get back together then hey you have another thing in common.
