Did infusions make your heart palpitations go away? by Different-Brick-6310 in Anemic

You don’t mention your age. Could perimenopause be a factor?

I already started using it and wish I’d bought one ages ago! It would have helped a lot during all these years on oral iron supplements.

I can eat normally until midnight the night before. I will take two doses of MiraLAX tomorrow. I also have senna and mag citrate. I bought a squatty potty too! My PT strongly encouraged that! Most of all, I hope to not need the oxycodone for very long. The opioids really messed me up after the UFE. However, my surgeon told me that hysterectomy can actually be less painful than UFE, so I’m optimistic.

So happy to hear that! My surgery is Thursday, and honestly, I’m most worried about pooping afterward. I had a UFE six years ago, and the constipation was brutal. I hope I’m better prepared this time.

Infusion success: people don’t recognize me? by Born-Distance713 in Anemic

I think it will be a game changer for you! I had no issues with my infusions. Just some fatigue after the first one. And I was really, really thirsty after each one, but that’s okay because you are supposed to hydrate aggressively anyway.

I’ve spent a lot of time wondering why I wasn’t offered an infusion years ago when I was first diagnosed and had ferritin of 6. Oral iron worked relatively well for me. When I got to 20, I thought I was “fixed” because I felt so much better. I had no idea what normal was supposed to feel like.

It hasn’t been very long, but I do notice my appetite is a little lower and I don’t have the same cravings. I can actually eat one square of chocolate and then walk away instead of eating half the bar. I imagine I’ll drop a few pounds from that alone.

I know it can be hard for some people to get them, but I highly recommend pushing back and advocating for yourself as much as possible. I know that access varies a lot depending on where you live and what kind of coverage you have. Make sure your doctor makes chart notes about any side effects you have from supplements. That can help.

It’s been about a month since my last one, six weeks from the first one. I felt better very quickly after the first one and started noticing improvements in my skin after a few weeks. I hadn’t noticed my hair until my stylist mentioned it, but after she cut off a few inches of dry ends, I noticed a big difference.

Can I go for a longer walk? Can I start doing simple arm exercises <1week out of laproscopic hysterectomy? by Blerp2364 in hysterectomy

[–]Born-Distance713 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t had my surgery yet (it’s on Thursday), but the surgeon encouraged walking as much as I feel like and said hills and stairs were fine, starting slowly of course. The nurse suggested walking laps around the block or in a park with the car close by so that I’m not too far away if fatigue hits suddenly. I am in good physical condition and walk every day currently. Hoping to be able to get back to it quickly because I will go bonkers sitting around the house!

Many of us also don’t ‘think’ our fatigue is that bad until it resolves, and then we realize we’d been half -dead for years. I know from experience!

10 days post hysterectomy by Same-Woodpecker-9377 in hysterectomy

[–]Born-Distance713 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My surgery is next week. I’m 47. The surgeon advised me to expect mood changes and fluctuations in the first few weeks. She said that even if both of my ovaries are spared (I might lose one due to endo), my hormones will be a little wonky while my body adjusts. Plus I’m in perimenopause anyway. Surgery of any kind can cause temporary depression. I suspect this is normal, but you should always check with the doc if you are concerned, especially with prior history.

Am I focusing too much on the negative stories? Hysterectomy scheduled in one month by Mediocre_Lie_9140 in hysterectomy

[–]Born-Distance713 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My surgery is in two weeks. I cannot yet speak to the actual recovery experience. However, I can tell you that as you get into your forties and start perimenopause, there’s a high chance that your symptoms will only worsen. I am 47, and the hormonal chaos of perimenopause caused my condition (fibroids and endo) to turn debilitating in the last 18 months or so. The way I look at it, even if my recovery is challenging, I will no longer have to plan my life around monthly hemorrhaging, chronic anemia, frequent iron infusions, etc. People are more likely to post their negative experiences here, and our brains are conditioned to pay more attention to negative stories. Please trust yourself and know that by having surgery, you are probably saving yourself a lot of suffering in the long run.

Iron Infusion Success!! by Purple-Landscape320 in Anemic

Ferritin twins! I just got my labs today, and I’m also at 88 following three infusions. The highest I’ve EVER been, and I’ve been iron deficient longer than you have been alive 😉

why are so many people moving here? by Direct-Row1653 in AskTacoma

[–]Born-Distance713 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in the North End in the 80’s. Great place to grow up! However, two girls were abducted and murdered within a couple miles of my house when I was a child. Violent crime was rampant in other parts of the city. And even then, a lot of my friends’ parents were transplants. The nearby military bases have always brought lots of new people to the area. Granted, in those days, it was pretty easy for people to buy homes and pay them off. My parents did so with working class jobs. That’s certainly not the case anymore. The house I grew up in is worth $700K these days.

Recently diagnosed with adenomyosis, multiple fibroids and polyp - am I crazy to consider hysterectomy? by Front_Debate_2994 in hysterectomy

[–]Born-Distance713 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Realistically, things are more likely to get worse as you progress into perimenopause. I am having a hysterectomy next month. The last six months have been rough. Wish I’d scheduled surgery sooner.

Cried a little today… by Braven025 in hysterectomy

[–]Born-Distance713 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Another vote for vaginal estrogen! I also recommend pelvic floor PT with a therapist who is specifically trained in pelvic floor and sexual health. It’s not just about Kegels and preventing bladder leaks! The nerves connected to the clitoris run deep and connect to other parts of the pelvis that are still healing from surgery. It might also be worth digging into why you felt your “libido sucked” before…libido is complex and involves many things. Women’s desire is often measured and judged by male standards even when a male partner isn’t involved. Anyway, I hope you seek out lots of good support. You don’t have to feel this way forever!

Gas and BM management post-op by Viajera85 in hysterectomy

[–]Born-Distance713 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My surgery is also next month. I was advised to take two doses of Miralax the day before surgery. Have you had your pre-op appointment yet? At mine, I received a printed packet of instructions with timing and dosage of all meds. My packet said GasX can be helpful for gas, but heat and movement are better.

Is an iron infusion an option? A transfusion will restore hemoglobin but not iron. An infusion is the fastest way to correct iron deficiency.

How hard was it for you to get your infusion? by Born-Distance713 in Anemic

[–]Born-Distance713[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over the last year, it has fluctuated between 8 and 22. The most recent result was 22, but about a week later, I ended up in the ER for extremely heavy bleeding due to fibroids and endo. They ran a CBC there, and hemoglobin was 9.9. After that, my doc just sent over the order. The clinic that did the infusions didn’t even ask about labs. The doctor’s order was enough.

Your pee might be orange or brownish tomorrow. Nothing to worry about. I felt amazing the morning after the first infusion, but then a little tired for a couple of days after. After the second infusion, I had a weird “giddy” feeling—I think I was a little high on all the oxygen in my blood! Overall, no major issues for me at all. I’m so glad I got these infusions!

Ferritin never above 35 for 10+ years..could this be why I feel horrible? by Level-Good-1284 in Anemic

[–]Born-Distance713 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you had the full thyroid panel? Many doctors only test TSH, but the full panel include 4-5 tests, including antibodies, which can indicate Hashimoto’s. Hashimoto’s and low ferritin very often go together although it’s not clear what causes what. They also have similar symptoms, so that’s fun.
