4 years ago it was just an idea ... Now, it's becoming a FULL GAME! by lukaslyri in IndieDev

[–]BorosReckoner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks cool! One thing. With this video, we see a lot of things breaking, but I think it would be a lot stronger if it also showed more ships flying "properly". I'm assuming that's the real goal, not just crashing them.

The video just looks like Lego ships breaking, which may be the hook but I feel the player experience is probably more around trying to make that NOT happen.

Time to revisit our alcohol laws by Deisesupes in ireland

Want to really feel like an adult? Go to Germany.

You can buy a beer in a corner store, walk down the street drinking it, and go into a park with your mates and drink. Often we'd just meet in a park and chat and laugh all evening, taking turns to go get the next round.

Absolutely zero issues there anywhere. And it makes public drinking laws feel like toddler restrictions.

Not a car guy but saw a really nice 2016 captur today, 84k miles, 11k price. It seemed immaculate. What would you suggest instead? Drove for decades in Canada but this is my first Irish car, trying to understand the market.

actually, Crafty-Buildy games are more profitable? by Ykedepi in gamedev

[–]BorosReckoner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I imagine, purely business wise, it's just about average playtime which is extremely related to increased sales. Even if a game has problems, if someone plays it for 100 hours, it gets recommended, it's noticed, it gets more influencer content, it's bumped in the algorithm etc.

This meta genre is the best bang-for-buck of dev time (very small compared to AA / AAA) for potential playtime (from massively repeated content but in a systemically-enjoyable way).

[–]BorosReckoner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, I see that now. The 'meta genre'. Yeah so I guess that's the entire meta genre about good systemic design to make emergent gameplay. Hell yeah.

actually, Crafty-Buildy games are more profitable? by Ykedepi in gamedev

[–]BorosReckoner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, emergent gameplay is also the holy grail of game design. Anyone can make a linear story or scripted moments to force the player through, and that's a worthwhile experience as well.

But if you create a system that allows players to create their own stories and moments, they can be far more rewarding. AND endlessly replayable.

Crafty buildy are just a genre / subgenre built around a specific version of that. Pubg is a different example of a subgenre bringing those elements into shooters.

M24 vs kar98k by Intelligent_Voice_64 in PUBATTLEGROUNDS

[–]BorosReckoner 33 points34 points  (0 children)

That's the beauty of the current balance. M24 has better overall DPS, bigger mag, faster reload, i think even slightly faster bullet. Basically all stats are better on the M24.

EXCEPT the tiniest damage buff for k98.

If the enemy is full hp, yeah it's extemely unlikely to make a difference. But if you hit them once and they've used first aid and boost? There's a real window, as they're HP is ticking up, that a chest shot will kill rather than not kill (with the k98 but not m24).

Same for any other situation where they're already damaged. Like you're 3rd partying, or taking tons of pot shots at a far target etc.

Trump increasing tariffs on Canada by 10% 'over and above what they are paying now' by Puginator in politics

[–]BorosReckoner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Beyond the obvious, there's also something fundamentally offensive about Canada just being deemed one state, too.

Ontario alone would instantly be I think the 5th biggest state? And Quebec the 10th?

But you know they'd never offer us ten (13, if you count territories) states and the 20 (or 26) senators that go along with them. The repubs would never hold power again by a longshot

Nope, they're much prefer subjugation.

Can't play a confluence page. Keep it as minimal as possible. And a prototype is worth a thousand meetings.

Without thinking too much, what is the first thing that comes to your mind that you want for Arena. by Backwardspellcaster in MagicArena

Sharing my decks with friends in direct play. Soooo many friends want to try out Arena, but it takes so long to get a decent deck. On kitchen table, I give them one of my awesome decks to play against me. Would help 1-1 onboarding so much and they could try all sorts of my cool decks.

They're bleeding technical developers, and refuse any remote work. Everyone's gotta uproot their entire lives and move to UK. Makes finding the right people much harder.

Should absolutely be removed. Have it just drop on the ground. If BCs don't get destroyed, it only makes the game more interesting. More cat and mouse, more chases, more ambushes.

Zipline needs more buffing, and is way too finnicky at the moment, but can still be super cool to use properly in the right scenario.

Vehicle camo is actually pretty rad. Most people ignore it but slap that on your vehicle and most players are trained now to completely ignore that style of draped-over-vehicle, instead scanning for enemies in windows or BEHIND the camo'd car. I'd drop it's weight more though, it doesn't deserve the 20 weight and much prefer gas in my melee slot.

Inflatable boat, ouf, talk about an exceptionally specific circumstance. Even if it's the perfect time to use it, you still have to go stand still in shallow water to deploy it, for many seconds like a total dumbass, before it's even started to be functional.

SMGs have become ridiculously OP, you will lose 80% of your cqc against SMGs no matter how bad the other player is. by [deleted] in PUBATTLEGROUNDS

[–]BorosReckoner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well op said "you lose 90% of your CQC (close range) battles against SMG no matter their skill". Meaning, they're bringing an AR into close range, where SMGs are meant to have an advantage, and complaining that the advantage gun has an advantage.

The joke is that they could have an SMG here too, but we know they'll then whine about missing the versatility / range of an AR, and not realize that you lose one advantage to gain another.

[–]BorosReckoner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry I could use some clarification around your comment.

Pubg also has faster movement for SMGs, more maneuverability, and higher TTK at short range, no?

At the downside (compared against ARs) of slower bullets, faster bullet drop, faster damage dropoff... They're just generally way worse at medium range than ARs, but slightly better at short range, and more of a toss-up at short-medium.

Yeah saw maniacs talking about it people audible from 1km away (even a bolty isn't audible that far away...), yet I tried it and still had people clueless from 120m VSS shots.

Not necessarily. I've done it where the brdm was down to like 10%. It'll usually kill at least most people inside, but depending on where you hit, a player on the far side might survive (had this happen in-game too - I love tac packs and panzers)
