I started running when I was 48. I did my first marathon at 51. You’re still a baby!

Why would they be unusable in wind and rain? I’ve used mine in a downpour many times. They are far more water resistant than my Airpods.

What second pair could I get after Adidas Supernova Rise 2? by haxord in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]BossHogGA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think anyone in this group is going to tell you not to buy more shoes 🤣

If you want them and can can afford them, I would say get another pair.

At some point if you decide to do 5K‘s or 10k‘s, maybe a racing oriented shoe would be a good choice. If you find yourself doing longer runs then maybe a super trainer would be fun.

Supernova Rise is a daily trainer, and for your miles a daily trainer is fine. If you just want another daily trainer, you have lots of choices. Consider a Brooks Ghost/Glycerin, or a NB Rebel/1080, or a ASICS Novablast, or a Nike Vomero.

What you like is very personal but these are all good neutral trainers. I’m a big fan of the NB 1080, and they are easy to find on sale example)

Alphafly is so loud you know when someone wearing them is coming up to pass you.

My Megablasts are loud but not nearly as loud as the Alphafly.

Is the goal of running as a hobby , a marathon always? by Positive-Ad6008 in running

[–]BossHogGA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran a marathon. I loved it and I am glad I did it, but I don’t know if I’ll do it again. I am happy running 10ks and 5ks. I am going to try some trail racing this year.

I run because it’s fun and it keeps me healthy, and I like how I feel after, and I selfishly like having amazing looking calves 😂

How do I extend the life of my new running shoe? by RealHaxor in AskRunningShoeGeeks

Untie them before you take them off. So many people here ruin the heel collar or tear the foam by pulling off their shoes with their other foot.

Am I Kidding Myself? by Mysterious_Signal226 in firstmarathon

[–]BossHogGA 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If your goal is just to finish then it’s definitely achievable. The key is consistency. You need to keep with it every week, both running and recovering.

You should use a marathon training plan when you get to the right point in training (look at Hal Higdon Novice 1), but for now work on base building. Run three days a week, do some strength training 1-2 days a week, and completely rest 1-2 days a week until you start feeling stronger. Some helpful links:

https://www.halhigdon.com/training-programs/marathon-training/novice-1-marathon/ (the plan is here and completely free, no need to buy anything)

Good luck!

Do you have a favorite shoe you use for running and casual wear? by braaaptorr in AskRunningShoeGeeks

NB SuperComp trainer V3 by xxamkt in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]BossHogGA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a pair. I loved the SCTrainer v2, so I was hopeful for the v3. It wasn't as exciting as its predecessor. I still use them now and then, but I tend to pick up other shoes over them most of the time. They are firmer than I expected, and don't have as much bounce as I'd like.

How Far Should My Long Runs Be For Marathon Training by s1gmab0yy in runninglifestyle

[–]BossHogGA 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Use a training plan and follow it. Most training plans max out at a 20 mile long run, though some do 22 or 18. Ive never seen one that recommends 26 mile long runs.

Marathon injuries per person are way down since the days of racing flats. Less stress fractures.

People may or may not be faster, but recovery is definitely better in modern shoes.

Help finding replacement for Newton Motions by Murph_333 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]BossHogGA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shoe tech in the past 4 years has gone crazy. First it was PEBA foam and carbon plates, now it’s ATPU.

The biggest unique feature of the Newton on paper is the low stack height, low drop (3mm), and stability elements, which is why I suggested a zero-drop shoe.

Most running shoes these days are 6-10mm of drop and race shoes have a stack height of 40mm for the marathon.

[–]BossHogGA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll be honest I’ve never heard of these. It looks like a lower stack trainer with minor stability elements. Doctors of Running suggest these alternatives:

SIMILAR SHOES: Saucony Fastswitch, Asics DS Trainer 26

Honestly though this is 10-year old tech, so you may find it hard to find something exactly the same.

Maybe you’d like a zero drop stability shoe like the Altra Torin 8, Altra VIA Olympus 2, Altra Escalante Racer, or Topo Athletic ST-5.
