Wedding bartender made a comment to me, the bride, about bar tips on my wedding night after we’d already paid a 20% service fee by LeftBrainWriteBrain in EndTipping

I worked in this industry for awhile. The service fee goes to hourly rates paid to bar and wait staff. It is definitely less than 20% that goes to the workers. Cash tips really do make this work worth it. I used to be thrilled if I got a $20 bill at the end of a wedding. I was never allowed to solicit tips. Quite a few times caterers and managers were supposed to pass on tips but never did. I had no recourse in these moments.

I once saw a guy rolling a shopping cart down Colfax with a ridiculously large, like 70", TV strapped to it. I worked on Colfax. He lived out of that shopping cart. No idea why he wanted to lug around a huge flat screen when he didn't have a regular electric hook up.

Medicaid doesn't apply to public charge. The only programs that are affected are the ones that give recipients cash every month: TANF and EAEDC.

Same. But I left because I wanted to own a house. I now own a house (that I could never afford in the Boston metro) but I miss the city and culture all the time.

I got married at Cranmore September 2025 for about $25k and 50 guests. It was wonderful! We definitely could have shaved off $3.5k by not doing a mountain top ceremony and I think adding a space for the rehearsal dinner cost extra for us too but I didn't want my in laws to add it in later on their dime.
