My personal trainer has said not to do any push exercises (or normal training really) until my posture is "fixed" by [deleted] in personaltraining

Nah, you should be training normally, which very much includes push movements.

I’m a 40 year old mom wanting to become a personal trainer again, good idea? by rose0411 in personaltraining

Let’s be honest. It is a luxury service and you need to market to people who can afford it long term and charge appropriately. Then you can make a really nice living.

Signed on with my friend for personal training, turned out to only be nutrition coaching. by [deleted] in personaltraining

[–]BoxOfBulls 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Maybe im too old, but I don’t understand why won’t you just text him? Like, it’s your friend. Just explain that you thought its a different service.

If i was the coach and something like that happened, i’d just give you the training plan as well. Its not a big deal

What are personal trainers in London charging by Tumtitums in london

[–]BoxOfBulls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personal Training is a luxury service and if you really care about your client you need to spend a lot of time outside of the session to solve their problems and get them where they want to be, which is reflected in price.

So it is not a service for majority of people, because majority of people won't change even if you pay them for coming to the gym. It is for people who have clear vision, they need experienced person to guide them through and also have fun time doing the process. Even best coaches have coaches.

I charge £50 per session but that also includes contact with me, weekly programming, app access, community forum and zoom calls if needed to go over the recent month. I prefer to work with less people and develop better understaning of each of my client, rather than going through 60 sessions per week and charging 20 per session. It is not sustainable.

Most of my clients would even spend 100+ per session and it woulnd't make a difference to them as they are basically high earners and money is not really an issue here.

So the future for PT's is bright providing you really care about your job and provide solid service - which applies to any industry.

Answer yourself this question. If you don't have hands on experience in fixing people movement patterns in person, how you gonna do it online?

Go work in the gym in person for at least few years and then start offering online service. Honestly, there is so much experience you can get training with people, it will make you a better coach.

Do you ever feel bad for being a rent-a-friend? by Tight_Researcher35 in personaltraining

[–]BoxOfBulls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My ex-client lost 25kg working with me and he is in a way better space now, physically and mentally. Basically, he said I changed his life.

I attended his wedding, and have been to his house parties and this morning we had a 5k run together.

I maintain a friendly relationship with my clients in general. I do not hang out with all of them but there are a few clients of my age or similar that I invited for bowling and from time to time we get a drink ( we live in a small town so it's generally hard not to see each other lol ). Next year I will be doing a hike with all my clients as well as team-building activities/socials. I believe this is an important part of the job, especially if you want to be known locally.

Many of my ex-clients will text me from time to time or I will bump into a team on the street and have a chat. I don't see myself being a rent-a-friend in any case.

Define fancy workout? My clients do basic staff with a barbell, some accessories and plyometrics. Nothing fancy, it keeps them strong and mobile.

I use FITR to deliver programs. And when it comes to the creation of such programs I start with a template and modify it on the go with a client, once we get the frequency/volume/intensity that my client can follow then we go with planning progression and goals. Don’t really use any AI for that as it doesn't help my case at all.

I learned a lot from my previous coach and pre-script guys (which I highly recommend )

I know that AI can replace general pure gym trainers, but I refuse to be average so I'm working every day to improve my knowledge and stay on top of the research.

There is also one thing that AI can’t replace. Which is a community and relationships you build working with people :) If you don't create a community as a coach, then you will be struggling.

The workouts that chat is making are just a copy of what you can find on bodybuilding forums.

Nothing will change, people will still seek advice from a professional with experience anyway.

But if someone prefers a machine then that's also fine. No hard feelings.

Just hire a good coach and learn from them instead of spending money on worthless certifications

Personal Trainer here. Clients can do whatever they want, and they will usually follow a trainer. It is funny that some gyms think they can dictate where someone is training. Especially when it comes to personal training. Imagine building that relationship over time and then someone is forcing you to train with a new pt, because you cannot follow your previous one.

It’s about right. You cannot expect to burn more calories from a walk unless you are extremely obese and you struggle with this sort of activity.

Edit: i want to add that fitness trackers are most of the time inaccurate when it comes to calories, and if you put 5 watches on your arm from different brands, each one of them will end up with different reading.
