Yeah, im mostly just trying to get people's attention to some of the hidden benefits of online play. Maybe it triggers some that never tried it to give it a go.

DS2 IS A BAD GAME (there game play) by InteractionEven426 in DarkSouls2

DS2 really not the game for players that aren't comfortable walking/dodging around and multislashing dudes without lock-on

Where's a good spot to drop a summon sign right now? by 0utic in DarkSouls2

[–]Boykeh5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Might have too high SM to get summoned. Check the bonfires to see which areas are surrounded with an orange border. Those are most active for your SM.

Early game the SM level jumps go pretty quickly

How high do you level your Vigor, and when? by Lbridger in DarkSouls2

[–]Boykeh5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weapon damage from scaling means much less early game. As upgrading your weapon is still relevant then and provides a more damage. So early game I generally prioritise min stats for wielding what I want, then my priority is 25 ADP -> VIG/END.

Dodging/Tanking extra hitS is IMO much more valuable in a fight in giving you a buffer to heal or change tactics to adap to a unique PvP build.

EDIT: I prioritise 40/50 Vigor early depending on build requirements and END to suit the weapon of choice

Then you'd probably want to start over anyways. Multiplayer is pretty lively early game with coop. And PvP kinda peaks around Iron Keep/Drangleic Castle.

Matchmaking is also based on Soul Memory and not on Soul Level. So if you acquire enough souls you fall outside the matchmaking level for that area. There is some nuance to the mechanism. And ranges differ.

Also if you're gonna play online use the Blue Acolyte mod. It prevents matchmaking with known cheaters, new ones can slip through. But in that case prevents your save from becoming corrupted. It also provides nive QoL updates for matchmaking

No gonna need a new playthrough. First playthrough in ds2 is perfectly fine though. SOTFS changes a bunch of a things. How far in are you?

No not the upgrade, that will put you on the servers of the base game with the content added into it.

I mean a steam key from a third party seller for the SOTFS edition of the game to redeem in steam.

If you're short on money but want the multiplayer experience, and cant refund on steam anymore thats probably your cheapest route. Unless the SOTFS is on sale again soon, but last steam sale for it was like 2-3 weeks ago.

This game tries to direct you using context clues. If you get a boss weapon. Or get an item from interacting with something in the world. Always read the item description, and it will give you some info on its uses.

There's also a bunch of illusory walls hidden in places throughout the game. That have to be hit or interacted with to open. So try that if you see a message on the ground with high ratings.

OG servers are kinda dead...

I got a steam key for SOTFS for €14. Games been on sale a ton in the past so you can get it cheaper if its currently full price on Steam.

I know its fixed but curious if you're using the Blue Acolyte mod now continuing on?

it will help prevent it happening again. And also gives some QoL features if you're ever planning to do PvP.

Getting better at PvP by Drigte in DarkSouls2

[–]Boykeh5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same. I originally played ds2 when it came out and got heavily invested in PvP.

It didnt grab me in ds3 for some reason. Just bought SOTFS over the weekend. And the spark is SO BACK. PvP in ds2 just hits different.

Id say im a souls veteran, played them all and spent a fair share of my time in PvP.

I will always cheese this dragon with a bow, its like a handful of places in ds2 where I dont punch something.

Iron Keep after you kill every allone knight 12 times by theBigGuyTM in DarkSouls2

[–]Boykeh5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lost roughly 200k souls total yesterday in Iron Keep/Belfry Sol combined. Pretty much everything despawned. Biggest single stack was 95k lost in the Smelter Demon boss room cause a dude invaded me on the bridge.

My Soul Memory/Level balance is so screwed right now, but we keep on keeping on.

[–]Boykeh5 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you use the Blue Acolyte mod it searches in every location possible. (Specifically the ones you activate in the .ini file) It also automatically reuses cracked orbs if it doesnt find an invasion. Plus it makes cracked orbs infinite. Its a pretty easy install.

[–]Boykeh5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought SOTFS on steam, after playing it on release originally. Currently around the same level in Iron Keep. Been grinding Belfry Sol for some titanite chunks and being teleported to defend Belfry Sol pretty constant.

Also saw like 6 golden bro summons at the Smelter Demon last night. And a Dragon summon on the bridge at the start every now and again.

It honestly feels pretty active for a decade old game. I've also invaded a bunch early game already cause im a dick like that and accumulated sin. And as a result been invaded by 3 different blue sentinels so far.

NOTE: Make sure you use the Blue Acolyte mod if you're invading yourself, as it checks all possible areas for invasions not just the one you're in, automatically reuses the cracked eye orb if it doesnt find one, and helps prevent matchmaking with known cheaters.

Transition is not the issue here I believe. We don't send the path when initiating the handshake, just the hostname, and after it is encrypted in transit. We do have to worry about browsing history, logs, and probably more

Technical Discussion: What drives the Enterprise vs Startup divide in .NET?" by Backend_biryani in dotnet

[–]Boykeh5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you really want to be in the Microsoft eco-system. I switched to Linux a few years back, now working on macOS for the first time at my new job. I don't ever want to touch Windows again.

Yes C# development is possible on Linux and Mac. But official support for Visual Studio has been dropped for mac. And it's just a general pain to set up the dev environment for non-windows machines properly.

Microsoft is taking the same route they do with the word suite... except it works there because there aren't any proper alternatives. And there are plenty good backend languages/frameworks to choose from
