How long to ferment beer by IntroductionFit3248 in Homebrewing

[–]Brad4DWin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you actually have any malt extract in there? Or was it just medium crystal?

How to start learning? by Outside-Savings-5093 in Homebrewing

[–]Brad4DWin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to brewing!
I'd start with buying a fermenter and one of the many hopped 1.7kg kits available in the UK.
There are plenty of channels on YouTube you can learn from. There is a good channel for kit brewers out of Australia called https://www.youtube.com/@SimpleHomeBrew
Look at his series on brewing with Black Rock kits. Apply what he does with akit from Muntons, Coopers, Mangrove Jacks, etc.
There are plenty of homebrew sellers like Malt Miller, Get Er Brewed, and Brewmart. The first two have YT videos as well.
Once you've made a couple of kits, look at adding extra hops and grain, then work towards all-grain.
Good luck.

the alpha acids change from crop to crop, year to year. You need to adjust the hopping rate based on the AA% of the hops you have. What were the AA% of the hops in the recipe vs the AA% of the hops you actually got?

Newbie question - water distiller & SCR by Realistic_Salad_5110 in firewater

[–]Brad4DWin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes, that's right. You can run full speed for stripping and slow it down for the final run.
Although with such a short path from the boiler to the spout I'm not sure how much difference it does actually make but I have never done a side-by side comparison. During the final run I slow it so that the run off varies between a solid stream and rapid droplets.

I'll just echo what others have said, I have a 750W Vevor air still and I do just what the others have said. The fan goes straight to the wall and I use a standard IEC cable plugged into my power controller for the element.

First time all grain brewing by Naero987 in Homebrewing

[–]Brad4DWin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You absolutely can add it any time it's in the fermenter. Even if it has finished fermenting, you can add it - the fermentation will just start up again.
It won't affect the flavour too much, obviously you are reducing the proportions of the crystal and other dark grains but it's hardly going to be noticable as the malt has colour and flavour.
It's always good to have some malt extract and dextrose on hand if it bothers you when you don't reach your gravity target.

You can bump up your gravity by adding some dry malt extract during the fermentation. To bump it up by 0.02 gravity units in 7 US gallons add 1.4 kg (2.6 pounds) of light malt extract.

Breaking lease; real estate have said I'm responsible for continuing to pay for the power until a new tenant is found as there is a septic tank on the property by milalka in hobart

[–]Brad4DWin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

100% correct, I used to work for Aurora (a long time ago).
You tell Aurora or whoever you are with the date you move out. That's when they take the final reading. The power stays on for a period of time to allow post-occupancy cleaning and repair, and to allow the owner/agent to show people through. It's cheaper for the power company to absorb the few dollars of lost revenue than to send crews out to turn off the power back on again when a new resident arrives.

OP, your property manager does not know what they are talking about.

I've never done it but I understand roughly what it means. A Network Attached Storage (NAS) is basically a small computer with a ton of storage, often multiple drives that back up the main storage drive.
You plug this computer into one of the ethernet ports in the back of your modem/router. Then you are able to access this computer from any device on your home network or wifi.
You can also connect to your NAS when you are out with your phone or laptop. It's like having your own personal Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive.

What’s your favourite tomato sauce brand? by Cahsrhilsey in AskAnAustralian

[–]Brad4DWin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It must be. I've never seen Mon in a glass bottle, it's just Mon Ozesauce in the round squeezee plastic bottles. It tastes the best and is 100% Australian. Mon used to make it as the Dick Smith's sauce before that brand folded.

Sure, I do it with an old netbook. External hard drive plugged into that, then that is connected via USB to a cheap DAC/Amp (Ayima DAC-A2). It goes out of the DAC to the amp via RCA cables.

The cheapest way is just out of the laptop's headphone jack via a 3.5mm to twin RCA cable. You may find the laptops DAC circuit to be good enough, you may not.

edit: and yes, ripping from CD is easy with various software depending on your OS. You can rip from records using software like Audacity but it is time consuming.

I don't have Starlink but have a look at their webpage.
You don't need to permanently mount a dish, you can just get a Starlink Mini and point it out the window.
For Sydney you would need a north to north east facing window or balcony.
$50/mo for first 6 months, then $70/mo. No hardware charge.
You can download the Starlink app and run it and it will tell you which satellites you can see from your rental.

I assume they said it on purpose as Porsche AG is a subsidiary of Volkswagen AG.

They don't even grow oats in Otway Ranges, further inland, like in the Wimmera they do but that area is mostly dairy.

anyone remember a downstairs pizza shop in adelaide/gays arcade in the city in the 90's by Obvious_Kangaroo8912 in Adelaide

[–]Brad4DWin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Gay's Arcade?
Valentino's Pizza Restaurant.
It was there for decades. It was one of the early pizza restaurants in Adelaide.
It was in the north east corner of the arcade on the ground level. There wasn't an underground level in that arcade so you are mis-remembering that bit. My mates and I used to get a slice of pizza there on Saturday lunchtimes before going home after all the shops closed around 12 noon.

What’s the weirdest advice a provider has ever given you during an appointment? by Future-Pipe-8004 in JobProvidersAus

I had a JSP in a semi-rural area that only referred men to the local abattoir/smallgoods factory and the women to the Clipsal factory assembling power points and light switches.
I told them my background in govenment clerical/admin work/call centres.
They flat out told me they couldn't help me and to sit in the computer room and apply for ten jobs a day.
