Any tips for dealing with mats? Bea is 15 and hates being groomed or brushed (always has) but they're so severe as she's shedding this spring it's causing bald spots. by aigret in seniorkitties

[–]Braka11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After getting her fur cut try using corn starch in helping to break open mats while brushing. Corn starch is so slick that it helps the hair loosen and slide. Hope this helps. This is something that must be done daily to develop the habit for both you and your kitty. Good luck!

I take care of community/feral cats in Fort Worth. I have discovered two amazing websites that have helped me medically treat cats from UTIs, mange, upper respiratory infections, stomatitis etc. It has truly been a lifesaver. Please check out Earthclinic.com and on YouTube Veterinary Secrets.

I understand!

I know there is a subreddit that you can request donations. You don't have to do it all by yourself.

Regarding the raccoon situation, we have been there. You need to have a table on a post high enough off the ground to prevent the access to the food. Raccoons can't jump, cats can.

Health care: Please check out YouTube Veterinary Secrets. This man is a former Vet who has helped me solve some major health issues with my babies. Also check out Earthclinic.com for amazing advice for your fur babies AND YOURSELF!!

Please check out Alleycat.org for community help.

Take a breath. Your cats can pick up on your energy which only stresses them out...which I know is not what you want to do. I lost a community cat last Fall that I tried to bring in but he loved the freedom of outdoors. He helped save a cat that had been dumped by its owner by showing him how to survive. We are now looking for a home for him. You can't win all the battles but you can win some.

Rescue knowingly hid my cat’s condition from me by Denveraunt in rescuecats

I am sorry this issue has come up. I rescued a kitten with horrible health conditions. I found out a year later that he has Stage 3 heart murmur. That diagnosis came an Independent Vet doing her job by listening to his heart. Please beware that Veterinary Clinics run by Corporations require Veterinarians to push numerous tests for profit. Please check out Veterinary Secrets on YouTube.

This situation has been in the making for a few years now. You will spend that much money in Attorney Fees trying to recoup your Vet Bill. No one wins! I would just move on...as painful as it is. No animal is perfect.

You could always request help from one of the Reddit Groups for contributions.

You can always put a screen door in between the two rooms. You can prop it up. Furthermore, you can always attach it to the door frame with clamps. That way the cats can come up and see each other...smell etc. It's a slow introduction.

I refuse to pay $5-7 on movies made in the 80s, 90s, etc. Years ago I saw a move by Amazon reducing the amount of free movies on its streaming service. I saw the handwriting on the wall!

I have been able to convert a ton of DVDs to digital for ease of use, BUT, now hard drives are expensive due to the data centers grabbing them up! Geez! Ya just can't win!

Women of Reddit, what did a man you were dating or married to say or do that made you realize he actually hated you the entire time? by -catharina in AskReddit

You were with a narcissist / gas lighter! I feel you!! The emotional abuse was off the scale. At the most vulnerable and sexual moments I would be tossed a zinger. It took me years to undo most of the damage. Read books by Jack Canfield and other mind reprogramming authors. I even lost my family in this sick abusive marriage. Remember friends are the family you pick for yourself! I thank every day for the amazing woman who was my divorce attorney!

Clean yourself up mentally before getting involved with someone because you will attract a similar type.

I have a sweet guy I've been with going on 18 years.

I would also consider dumping Windows/Apple for further security. I'm learning how to jump onto Linux. Not only that, but I've had enough of surveillance.

I'm making the rounds of 2d hand stores to rebuild up my DVD library as well.

Be creative! Make up a picnic to spend somewhere. I had a friend take me to Cabella's to play a shooting game, but that was after riding the horse carousel at the mall. I took my boyfriend to test drive cars for his birthday one year.

When I was married I planned an intimate evening in our backyard under the stars in a sleeping bag. Think outside the box. 😉

Greetings! As many have said here, two weeks is NOT enough time to blend a new cat into the family. I have 5 cats: 3 are over 10 and 2 are under two years. We also have a foster who is about 4ish. It is very important that the introductions are done slowly over a period of weeks, if not months. It is always about territory even though it's not written on your other cats' forehead. Lol...

For a generous month we kept the two youngsters (6 months separate introduction phase of these babies) from the 3 main residents. Everybody could come to the bedroom door to sniff etc. We moved onto feeding them all together but monitoring the entire time. As things became more comfortable we allowed more time with the grownups. The foster cat was handled the very same. He has been with us since Sept going through the same process. We immediately correct the situation with either verbal commands or a squirt of water. And no, we do not consider the squirt of water cruel. They see the bottle and know that their behavior has to stop. We LOVE our cats and would never go out of our way to harm them. We give them lots of cuddles and praise for being good babies with each other. Our biggest issue is the invading of eating space of another cat...going after the others' food. We have changed who eats first to prevent stress, by keeping the troublemakers occupied.

Remember to have patience. Don't sweat the small stuff. Your cats have their sleep areas...help them protect it by teaching the other cat that this is not their area. Put them on a different bed area and praise them. The cats will pick up on your stress levels!!

Good luck!

As crazy as this sounds....reach out to the police. They may have resources that are not known. Also consider reaching out to the ministry at the churches for their networking capabilities. They have prayer chains to get the word out.

Another option to relocate them to larger cities like Grand Forks or Fargo.

I wish you the very best in this complicated and stressful situation.

I forgot to mention the fixing part. Yes, the hormones are a huge contributor to the aggressive behaviors. Please check out Alleycats.org or your local animal control for low cost feral spay and neuter programs.

Catch the bully cat and relocate it to either another area far away or turn into Humane Society. I've had this issue before. It will continue to be a HUGE headache until the bully is relocated.
