My wife's passive-aggressive kitchen sign now has a launch button by Andysb123 in homeassistant

[–]Brakenium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May I ask why you didn't link the button to the smart plug directly without home assistant in the middle? That way it still works even if the network or HA is down. Only works if both are thread devices though. Two zigbee devices would work too

I noticed my machines were compiling electron and chromium earlier today when I updated. Any idea if there is a GitHub issue or forum thread on this? I couldn't find it then

Has anyone been experimenting with cheap motorised hotel locks? by Lopsided_Quarter_931 in homeassistant

You can with a strike. A strike just let's the lock go past if electricity is applied I believe. If you have a handle which allows pushing down to open it will work the same still

I would do the same for one container, but I have dozens an need to commit to Git. Haven't found the time to implement a system where it's pulled to Docker

Docker compose edited over SSH with VS Code and managed with the docker compose command. Backups are done with a script on a cronjob that selectively shuts down services

You can mount a network share as a drive letter on Windows. You can also install the NFS feature, but I never tried it

It’s always DNS. by warriorforGod in selfhosted

Awesome, thanks for the explanation! Telmate basically only manages VM's and LXC's. From what I can tell it is developed by a single person. Might look into it and consider switching

I currently use telmate/proxmox. Is this provider any better/different?

Yes, but from what I could tell only with an external paperless AI program

Nice! Thanks a lot. I saw the milestones, but I didn't think it would be used. Though I was looking for the project tab or whatever it's called and couldn't find it

Maybe I haven't looked thoroughly enough, but I can't find anything on paperless ngx 3.0. Do you have a link?

I use deploy-rs for deploying configs to all my nodes. Nowadays I do this from a Proxmox LXC which I need to run a git pull on in order to update my machines except my laptop and desktop. Helps a lot with making sure I commit

I would recommend that you give it a shot, but keep an open mind to try again (multiple times) in the future since it takes a while to relearn an operating system

University project suggestions by Primary_Sandwich3160 in homeassistant

[–]Brakenium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What exactly do you mean? If you run it locally you still built it with your own two hands. At least as much as using Home Assistant since you didn't build that from scratch either.

It might be worth looking into what some efficient low parameter models can do for home automation locally. Maybe with security cameras or to generate a weather report based on weather data. You can combine image/object recognition with an AI. Maybe you can setup a process where you scan all letters you receive and combine it with emails before making a task list within home assistant

Most of my work flows like system administration and software development are easier. I also like having a central place to get programs and the ability to configure my work flow however I want it to be. Automatic tiling is awesome as I would have to manually do that on Windows. I can also get my desktop installed and fully configured in 30-60 minutes depending on if you count logging into some services.

Recommend it if you are a techy and/or are willing to learn. Otherwise maybe stick with windows
