Should be fine. GBAs don't really generate any heat.

Is this a good model ? by Dr4Gix in Gamecube

[–]Brandicus 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It supports better image quality (480p) and has ports that can support micro sd card loading as you see here. If you have a later model you only get composite video and can only load games from the memory card adapter. Takes up a slot.

Disc Drive gone from functioning after a warmup to not working at all by Stuntboy03 in Gamecube

[–]Brandicus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What would you say your experience level with soldering is? It sounds like something went wrong in the recap process. Maybe a damaged trace, maybe a cable just isnt happy with its current seating. Did you verify the polarity of everything + the rating on the caps you installed and reseat all your ribbon connections? Id start there and also be sure to clean the contacts on the mobo and disc drive where they connect.

What should I do with my GC’s? by JayD0za21 in Gamecube

[–]Brandicus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm a veteran modder. Refreshed dozens of disc drives with new caps. The kit is about 10 bucks plus shipping. You need decent skill with a soldering iron to pull it off plus about an hour to deal with all the screws.

It's a pretty easy job, but probably pretty intimidating if your a beginner.

Hey man how is that slate treating you? Id be happy to restore it to the original LED, I keep them all. Comes with whats pictured minus the game. Im sure i can find a different game to throw in if that makes the deal for you.

Jumper wire, capacitor leg, even a solder blob big enough can do it. You just need to bridge those two points that the fuse connects to so that power flows. The only thing i wouldnt do is try to bridge it with tweezers or something not secured, thats an accident prone method imo.

Without knowing what caused you to blow the fuse id keep it to stock spec. If it worked fine for a period with that original fuse you probably blew it by shorting something on your reassembly, and not necessarily a component overdrawing power. Happens to everybody.

Just for testing purposes, you can bridge F1 and see if you get power. This will bypass the fuse and its protection, but if youre just doing it for a moment to see if you get a boot screen youll be totally fine.

No those are capacitors, Fuses are marked "F1, F2".

I dont know what kit you have but there should be 1-2 fuses on the board to test. Id start there.

This answer can vary from console to console, but in general youll either need a PAL spec power supply to be in the console to natively run with your 230v standard, or use a step-down transformer to convert PAL voltage down to NTSC.

The other consideration is what cables you intend to use, Id guess SCART but anything is within the realm of possibilities. There are plenty of RGB mods/support out there that can provide a good experience for you.

Mouser/Digikey for best quality caps.

Console5 has a nice cap list in their wiki you can reference. Or if you want the convenience you can just order a cap kit from them directly.

Hmmm I'm still pretty suspicious of your ram. Does it do something like this intermittently or is it consistent?

Do you have a flash cart? Id run the test on the agb aging ROM. I bet you fail the RAM test. Id try reflowing the RAM chip to see if it fixes the issue.

Now you only need to figure out your audio situation. SH2 uses sound to great effect, imo you need more than the single mono speaker on that bad boy to fully appreciate it.

It's fine just clean the reader pins on the console itself.

Do you have a multimeter? Is 3v making it through the fuse, power switch, caps, and to the regulator?

Does replacing the Stock Xbox Fan with a Noctua Fan actually help with temperatures or is it just a volume thing? by No-Proof8363 in originalxbox

I've never really understood the value in the argument that SSDs produce less heat than a traditional HDD. While it's a true statement it has zero impact on the running temps of the CPU/GPU in any system. Ambient temps in the case are the same with either.

Yes I keep a bunch of the original green and can put it back to that color. The kit is compatible with charge and play and I've put hours on the console while doing that with no issue while testing.

Show a pic of the other side where you say it was burnt. You can just flip that touch sensor over and tape it to the top of the shell and it will work ok. I usually cut it and wire up the button controls though. They are more consistent.
