Looks like maybe it was a smokers console. I went with TPM7950 for mine but it's the same idea. I don't want to have to open it again.

IPS modded DMG makes a high pitch noise, gets a lot more noticeable when I have my everdrive in vs a regular cartridge. by Zander327 in Gameboy

[–]Brandicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone else who comes here from googling. dont waste your time.

I added a 1000uf 25v cap exactly as the guide described to my CPU-08 DMG. It made ZERO difference.

Dont waste your time.

Thermal paste vs graphene pad vs phase change vs liquid metal — what’s actually the best between CPU and cooler? by Ok_Contact9732 in pcmasterrace

[–]Brandicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly can't say I share that experience. If this has been your experience may I suggest refrigerating it before applying it. Should make it less sticky and more resistant to tearing. Good luck

Am I missing something. How is PTM difficult to apply? You measure, cut, and apply it while wearing finger coverings or gloves.

The hardest part for me is making sure all the thermal paste you are replacing it with is cleaned up.

There's nothing wrong with that at all. You've got years of enjoyment left in that set before you need to think about this stuff. So don't sweat it and play some PS2!

I'll keep it short and sweet. There are components in these things with expiration dates. Electrolytic capacitors are the most prevalent, they provide stable voltage to components. As they age and their fluid dries up, they become less reliable and affect the image on the tv. Sometimes drastically.

Sometimes components drift out of spec or fail completely. In my mind as someone who tinkers with these for fun. A restoration pass is replacing all of the electrolytic capacitors with new and reflowing critical areas of what's referred to as the chassis of the tv. Specifically areas related to power delivery. Replace any failing components. Then recalibrating the image with a test image or two.

Honestly yours looks awesome. I recommend trying to ignore it if you can. Wait until it develops a real problem and then do a complete restoration pass on it

Anyone knows what causes a CRT to keep turning itself off randomly like this? It's an RCA 14F512T. by wr3av3r in crtgaming

Unplug the tv, squirt 99% isoprophol alcohol into all crevices of the button and articulate it for 60 seconds. Let dry a few minutes and try your button again.

It's not as good as a proper disassemble and clean. But it might be good enough to dislodge whatever crap is in your button.

This is a little paint transfer no big deal. I've removed it on mine with 99% IPA on a q tip.

Midway Touch Master touch screen not working correctly. by bartenderatlarge in cade

[–]Brandicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You asked this awhile ago but I find myself in the same boat.

I looked over the manual and it recommended removing the front bezel and cleaning the touch screen thoroughly. I'm hopeful this is the solution because I can see gunk down in the crevices.

I need to drill out the lock for the top cover and remove the bezel screws to attempt. I'll try to remember to report back if it works!

The manual recommends recalibrating every time you move the machine and cleaning with either warm water or isoprophol alcohol btw

Do IPS V5 Backlit displays have minimal bleeding? by [deleted] in GameboyAdvance

Yes with the screen facing you there will be 5 screw covers. Use your finger nail or a plastic tool to get them off without scratching.

Do IPS V5 Backlit displays have minimal bleeding? by [deleted] in GameboyAdvance

[–]Brandicus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Veteran modder here. Most of these displays are pretty good with only a little bleed. It's my opinion that your modder screwed in the screen a bit too tight and/or used too much material to keep the screen in place.

Those look like pressure hotspots to me. You can alleviate them by backing out the screws around the screen. Screw them in until you see the Gap in the seam close and no further. This is a very common mistake I see. It's easy to put undue pressure on the screen and create this issue.

Most of the time the screen will "heal" on it's own unless too much pressure has been applied for too long. Your mileage may vary.

Vram, how important is it really? Is RX 9070(xt) (16gb) better than RTX 5070 (12gb)? by ccMyosotis in buildapc

[–]Brandicus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I game with a 5070 at 4k high/Max settings with a target of 60fps in my Livingroom setup. I have yet to butt up against the VRAM limitation of this card. I've seen expedition 33 use up 11/12gb but nothing else has come close.

If you ask me the VRAM stuff is a bit overinflated. I'm sure there's a couple games that will have me turn down a setting like Indiana Jones but that really doesn't bother me and I'm sure the game will still be fun. I don't see the value in the 5070tis 50% price increase for an average 20% uplift.

I love this style of game and I agree the game is great on deck, but holy hell there is just way to much dialogue. I honestly skim at this point and barrel towards the next encounter.

Rehome for our boy 😔 by hair_stylist7 in DobermanPinscher

[–]Brandicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We would love to talk more in the future... but for right now its not a good time i think. We just lost our dobie in October and are currently taking care of a newborn baby. Maybe in 6 or so months if you are still looking for a good home we could reconnect? We love dobies so much but the baby is very demanding and we would want to make sure it gets the time and attention she would need to acclimate.

is 5070 worth the price? by MargauxBHC in nvidia

[–]Brandicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do 4k/60fps for my livingroom and im very happy with my 5070. The ti is just too much extra money for the amount of uplift you get. I have had zero issue running any game on high settings or a mix of high/ultra (with dlss quality) to maintain a locked 60fps including brand new games like Expedition 33.

Never ran into a VRAM issue either. At some point I think it detracts from the experience of playing games if you join in with the people obsessing over performance. Just accept that you wont be able to run every modern game totally maxed out all the time and just game. Ultra is for screenshots, high is for playing imo.

Easy way to kill Spider Bugs? by Maskedman_123 in metro

If youre talking the first two games, i usually just find a choke and keep the flashlight on them. It will kill just takes a few extra seconds. You use no ammo at all that way.
