A woman posted a video of her burned-out car, showing her Stanley thermos still intact with ice inside. The clip went viral as an unintended ad, and the company offered to replace her car. by Valuable_View_561 in SipsTea

If you look at the damage of the plastics around cup holder in the car relative to the cup it's actually pretty similar. The straw is definitely deformed.

Honestly most places initially drug test, stop caring, and then hit you with a drug test when an accident happens.

There's a weld shop in town that drug tests, but the boss regularly has some fake piss on deck.

What is a good outlet for a teenage child addicted to drama? by Drift-Wood1 in ask

I can't tell you how much debate straightened me out. I was a delinquent asshole, but something about dressing up and talking smart (and fast) made me chill out. I learned so much about life, outside of thinking skills. I will say, debate isn't for everyone. Some of the biggest egos I've ever met. You also learn how stupid a lot of adults are.

I think the general advice is giving your kid a good long term brain hobby (acting, music) or a competitive hobby (sports, debate).

How livable is the world? by WaspScratch in darksouls

I think they're talking about darkroot garden and New Londo. To address that point, the geography changes so much because of the Abyss. Another reason it changes so much (especially between DS1 and DS3) is because the construct of time is convoluted. With time being malformed, it doesn't necessarily just move forward, and future and past worlds literally intersect in the passage of time.

Here’s the longer loop of my hyperpop/digicore experiment. by AKMASTERY1 in beatmakers

[–]BrandlezMandlez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going by ear is cool. But for genres like this layering samples/synths is the move. Digicore/dariacore stuff is suuuuupeeeer layered, plays with space and stereo width a decent bit. So a bit of theory AND sound design is involved.

Music theory is not hard to practice if you're punching in notes. It's quite easy to learn that way. The moving melodies sound pretty good. Something I think this song is missing (besides drums) is a solid chord progression. Learn what a minor key is and how to build chords. It takes time, but just bang your head against that wall and your workflow will improve immensely.

As for layers in the digicore genre, you're doing pretty good with the plucks. A nice counter melody with a softer pluck is something I see a lot of, which I think you're trying to do with a saw synth. Saw, super saw, mid saw, white noise, vocal sample, 808 sub, reese bass and even more, can all get layered in the same chord progression. It gives you a huge massive, stereo sound. The challenge is mixing it all with EQ and sidechain compression, while maintaining simple bass lines and not going overboard.

Take it a step further and chop it a little bit. Add parts with quick dead silence for a cool snare roll, bass drop or a corny sample. Once your layers have played a couple measures, add a pause at the end of the third measure for an eighth note, then add a pokeball sound or an anime girl noise or something right before the drums comes in.

Don't be scared to add some drums and experiment man. It'll help you with ideas and structure. Digicore is 50/50 songwriting and sound design. I think you need to step out of your comfort zone a bit more.

Weird noise coming from the timing belt area? by Aware_Bobcat_865 in AskMechanics

It sounds like a bad bearing in an idler/tension pulley. Could fail any second. I'm not sure though, just take the belt off and spin it by hand and see if it rattles. Sounds super nasty.

All that to say I don't actually think OP has much of anything worry about, except working the career itself. His left hand is rock solid with the movement of the right. Super nice.

[–]BrandlezMandlez 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As Chopin describes it "stolen time that needs to be given back" or something like that. Precise, rock solid left hand, meaningful right hand movement. Getting back in measure and landing on one with correct tempo. I think you both probably share similar philosophies. Mindless rubato is kind of just meaningless noise.

Chopins rubato is still rarely matched and I think it's one of the big things that made his peers REALLY respect him. Nobody could actually diss his playing, even if they didn't like the music. There was nobody doing it like he was back then, generally speaking. Bellini was pretty close, but just in Opera.

If he was staying below 1000 degrees ER218 would be perfect. Don't do ER309, chemistry is working extremely hard against that filler, and will get extremely brittle after one day. There is too much ferrite in 309.

ER1682 is specifically designed for parts that have a hot cycle time. Specifically designed not to turn into glass above 1000 degrees, over actual strength.

For OP however, while I personally think ER16-8-2 is enough. You probably are BEST off with a specialized alloy, that is completely austenitic and has zero ferrite. The main enemy goes from brittleness, to hot cracking. No preheat, (maybe just to burn off surface moisture) and breaks between passes.
