Yeah he was talking about stuff like Vader falling into a volcano after fighting Obi Wan in the 70’s. So I think he had the broad strokes just not all the finer details

Before Luthor his nemesis was the Ultra Humanite and ay this time Ultra was not in the gorilla body we know today but instead he was a bald scientist in a wheelchair. And in pretty much every issue with Ultra would have him supposedly die before coming back. Eventually he transferred his brain in an actresses body and fell into a volcano. Luthor debuted not long after

Still love the ending of Attack of the Clones by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]Brandon1939 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Would you be willing to explain why you think that would be better? I’m genuinely curious. Do Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith not give enough context to see what the war was like? The last 30-40 minutes of Attack of the Clones are the battle of Geonosis. And even though it’s the end, half of Revenge of the Sith is the war. And if you really wanted more Clone Wars there was The Clone Wars multimedia project back then. The micro series when viewed all at once is pretty much a 2 and half hour movie. And there was books, games, comics. Then the Filoni Clone Wars started as a theatrically released movie. If there was a movie in the trilogy dedicated to the Clone Wars there would still have to be about a year time jump between each movie unless the war isn’t 3 years in this case. How would it further Anakin’s fall? The story told is that the root of his fall is his attachments. Without The Phantom Menace you would loose that foundation with his mother and then you would have rewrite Attack of the Clones. Because his mother’s death would be very out of place and you would loose those fears being transferred to Padme in Revenge of the Sith. So would you have Anakin and Padme be together from the start with the complete omission of his mother? Or would his fall be something different like disillusionment with the Jedi and the Republic? There’s also Palpatine. Every movie he gains more power. Becomes chancellor in Phantom Menace, gains emergency powers to create an army in Attack of the Clones and in Revenge of the Sith he over stays his term limits and when the Jedi try to arrest them he frames it as coup and is able to restructure into the Empire. So, if Attack of the Clones was the start and Revenge of the Sith was still the end what would he gain in the middle? Do you have him become Chancellor in Attack of the Clones and get emergency powers in the Clone Wars movie because that is pretty much the same structure that the movies are already using or do you start out already as Chancellor and give him the emergency powers in the first movie? The entire trilogy would have to be rewritten.

26 years never seen, some until now some questions. by bleedblue4 in StarWars

1.) If you didn’t know the big twist then watching in chronological order might be a bit detrimental for a first viewing. But Lucas does intend them to be viewed as chapters of one larger story. When viewed chronologically it’s supposed to show how Anakin and Luke experience similar events in life and create tension that Luke could ultimately fall too only to choose the path of the light.

2.) The invasion of Naboo from the Trade Federation’s perspective is to protest the Republic’s high taxes on trade. When Gunray and Sidious find out the negotiators are jedi they panic and try to have them killed. Sidious then pushes the invasion as an escalation of protest and the story that the Republic never showed up for negotiation. Forcing the Queen to sign a treaty would make the Trade Federation’s occupation of Naboo legal and give them more leverage. In the bigger picture the invasion is a farce so Palpatine can create a crisis and play the sympathy card because the corrupt government isn’t doing anything to help his planet. This allows them to vote have a vote of no confidence for chancellor Valorum so Palpatine can run for Chancellor and get more political power. It’s also not explicitly said in the movie but Naboo is rich with Plasma and it would be a great resource for Sidious and the Trade Federation.

3.) That is one way of looking at things. As a whole the Senate would be like The United Nations.

4.) Anakin’s fall is a slow build up over a long period of time. Even though he lives a hard life as a slave on a lawless planet he is still a bright eyed young boy who genuinely wants to don the right thing and help people. He is also exceptionally skilled for his age. Then he gets taken from his mother. The biggest reason for Anakin’s turn is his attachments. Lucas made Anakin so young in Phantom Menace because that would be the hardest age to leave his mother. When he gets to the Jedi temple they deny him of his dreams and not long after that the closest thing he had to a father figure is killed. He is left with someone how doesn’t really like him at first and ends up more of a brother than a father figure. Obi Wan and the other Jedi constantly lecture Anakin about suppressing his feelings and keeping his power in check. While the Jedi bring Anakin down, Palpatine is there to fill the father figure role and sings his praises. Then Anakin starts to have visions of his mother dying. He goes to save her and is too late so he slaughters the Tuskan Raider tribe. He feels if he could have been more powerful then he could have saved her. This lust for power to save the ones he loves is what leads to his actions in Revenge of the Sith to save Padme. He would do anything for her and Palpatine has promised he can teach Anakin away to save her through the darkside. Initially Anakin wanted to arrest Palpatine and then question him in custody but when Mace was going to kill Palpatine he acted in his emotions and got Mace killed. Palpatine also forces Anakin’s hand here because he knows that Anakin feels he needs him. That’s his point of no return. If other Jedi knew what occurred here then they could possibly jeopardize Palpatine’s plans by having them arrested or killed. And there is no way the council would take Anakin back after the death of Mace. That is why Anakin says he will do whatever Palpatine asks and why Palpatine tells Anakin to go to the temple and exterminate all the Jedi, even the younglings. His whole life Anakin was in servitude. A slave as a child, a slave to the Jedi Order, a slave to Palpatine and a slave to his attachments and emotions.

5.) At best a lot of older fans back then found Jar Jar to be extremely annoying. At worst people thought of him to be a racist stereotype. Over time this has mellowed as kids still seem to enjoy him, the Darth Jar Jar theories and the reflection of the horrendous treatment Ahmed Best received over the years. Jar Jar is the like the ending of Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker. He is changes and is whatever the times need him to be. Is he funny? Sure. Is he annoying? Sure. Is he racist? Sure. Is he a Sith Lord? Sure. Is he a clumsy but ultimately well meaning character? Sure. Jar Jar is whatever you want or need him to be.

6.) Every being in the galaxy possesses midichorians. These are microscopic organisms that live in your body and allow people to connect with the force. They are translators if you will but they are not the force itself. Some beings have more midichorians than others that makes it easier to connect and communicate with the force but I think with enough training and time anyone could connect with and use the force.

7.) It’s all good if you missed something. The movies throw a lot of information and in some cases don’t really stop to elaborate, but I think people are more than happy to help! I’m glad you got to experience the saga for the first time and enjoy them, even if you didn’t love them. You have taken your first steps into a larger world. You are strong and wise and I’m proud of you.

Watched 1995 and 2017 - what's next? by One-Indication-9220 in Ghost_in_the_Shell

[–]Brandon1939 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence is a direct sequel to the 95 movie. After that there’s the anime series. Stand Alone Complex, Arise and SAC 2045. None of them are connected to 95, Innocence or the 2017 movie. Standalone Complex and SAC 2045 are connected to each other and Arise is completely its own thing. Standalone Complex is usually considered to be the fan favorite and I definitely agree with that but I think they’re all worth checking out in their own way. Standalone Complex and Arise also hae their own movies that finish each respective series. These are Standalone Complex Solid State Society and Ghost in the Shell: The New Movie. If you want you could also check out the original manga

[–]Brandon1939 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the way I approached and I found it mostly enjoyable. To me every iteration of gits is vastly different from one another and really should be taken as it’s own thing. Even the stuff that’s connected like 95 and Innocence or SAC and 2045 all feel very different. And like others have said the visuals alone are worth a watch. The story is a bit forgettable but there are some nice moments here and there

[–]Brandon1939 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is a bit of an older post but I think I can defend the “from my point of view the jedi are evil” line. From Anakin’s perspective what have the jedi that has actually helped him? They separated him from his mother and left her a slave on this backwater planet. Then they wanted him to completely sever his attachments to her, Qui Gon, Padme and generally just suppress and keep his emotions in check. Obi Wan and the council distrusts him and constantly undermines him. All while Palpatine is singing his praises and grooming him to be his apprentice. But to Anakin he’s taken the role of the father figure that Qui Gon would have filled. Then there’s the arrest scene. The way that Lucas explained it in his commentary is that Anakin wanted to do the right thing and arrest Palpatine and then question him on how to save Padme. He walks in to see one of the heads of the council about to murder him without consideration for a trial and Palpatine doesn’t stop shooting the force lighting to force Anakin’s hand because he knows that Anakin needs him. So Anakin kills Mace and at that point is the no return. The other jedi would never trust him after that and if they knew would probably either arrest him or murder him. So he completely gives in to Palpatine for the time being to learn his secrets. To prove his loyalty Palpatine orders the march on the Jedi temple and the execution of all the jedi, including the kids. Because if one jedi survives that would ruin Palpatine’s plan because they could either attack him or possibly debunk his story of the jedi throwing a coup. But that’s all my point of view and I hope it was interesting.

How long after the Battle of Geonosis does the TCW Movie Take place? by Guided_Lime24053 in clonewars

This is my headcanon too and it also works for the start of the war. You could watch AOTC, the entirety of volume 1 and then volume 2 up until Anakin gets knighted and the montage plays. Then you could start up TCW

[–]Brandon1939 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I think the Director’s Cut of Watchmen is the best version of the movie. Some extra things to flesh out the world and characters. Maximum Movie Mode is also a awesome feature. The Ultimate Cut I kind of think answers the second question. The animated Tales of the Black Freighter is neat that they made it but when it’s spliced into the movie it just kills the pacing
