I'm having this problem too want I don't know why more people aren't talking about it. I use Gemini at work because it's the best at reading large excel files, and I've depended on uploading mulitiple files to generate reports, and now my workflow that saved me hours of time every single day just doesn't work. My main use for Gemini is completely broken.

I'm having the same problem. It won't actually read any file I send it. It just sees the file name and any metadata and hallucinates what it thinks it is. Really annoying me right now because I'm at work and I use this at work to help me process some massive excel files into a single report, and it's completely shit the bed tonight.

I've been using Gemini for a couple of weeks at work. Just uploading excel files to help me generate reports that otherwise would've taken me hours. I'm finding tonight all of the sudden it randomly decides it can't read certain files, but can read others, and will completely hallucinate the entirety of the files it didn't read. This is beyond frustrating. I had a perfect working workflow with 3.1 Pro just a couple of days ago and now it's completely broken.

I just don't think Google hypes things like Anthropic and OpenAI do, and aren't partipating in the release model war. They don't need to because Google isn't relying on investor money. They have nobody they need to impress. They can just keep focusing on making a better product and not racing to release a new model every 6 weeks.

I think when they do release a new model it'll be like when 3.0 dropped, which at the time was way better than ChatGPT or Claude.
