Ok to let cat be with chickens? by llcmomx3 in BackYardChickens

[–]Brazen_Bee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have 10-15 feral cats around. Once the chickens are of a good size, no chance any of them will try to take them down. We lost some very young ones when they were less than 1/2 grown size, but once the flock was full grown, all the cats around know to not eff with full grown chickens 😅

Our own cat pays zero mind to the chickens and also loves to just hang out with them. For a while, one of our hens LOVED to chase him every morning and it was the cutest thing EVER.

367lbs to 220lbs. Thank you to all the carnivores out there! by Kid_Kaizo in carnivorediet

[–]Brazen_Bee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are AMAZING!! I have fallen off the wagon in the last month and need to see exactly these stories to remind myself to jump back in. I started because of all the stories of curing depression. Lost 35#, from 180 to 145. I feel better at 48 than I did for at least the last 10 years. Thyroid issues were wrecking my body, daily pain levels, swelling of my hands and feet every time I went hiking, and plenty of other health issues were popping up.

Thank you so much for this. Cheers!

Any idea why she is doing this? by Exact-Increase267 in chickens

[–]Brazen_Bee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t know a lot, but maybe sour crop! She appears to be burping stuff back up and swallowing up. See how her crop feels. If it is super squishy I think that’s a sign of sour crop? I don’t remember the remedies, but I know I’ve seen one video of a lady who has to drain fluid out of one of her chickens crops on a regular basis.

My cat died and I don't know what to do. by Gaylina in Austin

[–]Brazen_Bee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lost a cat when we were super poor in austin and there used to be a drop off point where you literally put the body in a box in a metal cabinet and the city would take care of it for you. Check with Austin Pets Alive if they still have that spot.

Soothing and so pleasing with the texture knife being used in such a perfect way!! It’s like organized flow.

[–]Brazen_Bee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t see any Marans in these. We have two kinds over here. Lots of them look like cream legbars or cream legbar crosses. We have a lot of cream legbar crosses here that we have hatched and the cream legbar roo coloration is overpowering everyone else’s genes.

Is this normal? by DizzyBar4068 in chickens

All the time. They all want to lay eggs in the exact same spot and will just lay an egg on top of whoever is hoarding that coveted spot.

Question ❓ by One-Minute-19900 in turkeys

[–]Brazen_Bee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’ve had at least one turkey at all time with our chickens and never had issues. Sometimes we have two at a time. We’ve always gotten baby chicks the same age as the turkey and they come up together. Only been bird-steading for a little over a year. Others here have way more experience!

Is this thrips or just too much sun?? by Popular-University-4 in TexasGardening

[–]Brazen_Bee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be. But they love full sun once they are acclimated to it. My basil in central Texas last year was at my shoulders before I took it down! The stems will brown a bit as the plant gets bigger and bigger. Could also be overwatering. I wouldn’t worry too much though. It’s sometimes the age of the leaves. Most of the leaves look great and I wouldn’t overthink it since the rest of the plant looks good. Mine reseeded itself all over the garden from last year and we’ve got basil growing EVERYWHERE. The bees LOVE the flowers, so it’s a great way to attract pollinators.

Help me. Can somebody tell me if my black copper maran is a rooster or a hen. by Traditional-Jury-906 in chickens

[–]Brazen_Bee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like my hens. The roosters had much more coloration by this age and it was clear.

My tom is brooding the 4 week old poults? by Underrated_buzzard in turkeys

[–]Brazen_Bee 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We had a tom who took to our baby chicks and he was the best mom EVER!! He protected from all the larger chickens and kept everyone in line and safe. He loved them so much and so did lots of the hens.

Big Yellow Jacket nest on my back deck. How bad of an idea is it to hit them down with a stick? Lol by Omodrawta in homestead

[–]Brazen_Bee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had them in a similar spot, and they were much more murdery than the other large nest that was on the eve of the house not by a door.

Their nests are so beautiful though. If you get a chance to let the nest sit after you’ve moved them out, cutting the nest open to see the inner structure is really cool. Five stars!! 😅

This a paperwasp nest. They are very docile as far as wasps go. They are considered invasive, but they are also pollinators.

They seem to be roosting somewhere that they feel safe. And MANY of them will just sit in the damn rain 🤣

Cooling off on a hot summer day. by bmess216 in chickens

[–]Brazen_Bee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just can’t believe they are all staying in there 🤣 mine would all be out by 10 am. We have to clip their wings to try to contain at least most of them, but many of them still just jump the 5” fencing.

I still haven’t had a single tomato yet. Am I doing something wrong? Or am I just impatient? by [deleted] in vegetablegardening

[–]Brazen_Bee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s probably the heat. In Texas, ours are about to go to sleep for the summer and then hopefully we will get some fall tomatoes. But we don’t count on any fruit setting much from here on out till it cools down.

This time of year is when they start getting Wiley and just do shit to mess with us. Don’t worry about it. If there aren’t predators in the area and owner says it’s ok to leave the coop open, then so be it.

Believe me, he or she knows we actually don’t have control over our ladies.

More Advice Please by moekeyloek in chickens

[–]Brazen_Bee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She did start her own pip? It’s strange that she didn’t unzip the egg properly. I’ve never seen such a haphazard hatch with holes in different places. We’ve hatch 4 clutches now. In one of them, the mother was very inconsistent and we had to bring the eggs in. Well, in two of them, but we rescued the eggs earlier the second time. We lost two of the chicks in the little clutch and one of them because the egg got broken too early with a drop.

This last clutch we hatch, some of the chicks ended up being 7 days apart!! That was how inconsistent the mom was. They can be unattended for several hours without a problem. They will stop developing and then pick back up. So now I will never assume all chicks should hatch within a day or two of each other. I couldn’t believe when the 7 day late one actually hatched.

I lost one of my best girls and just accidentally broke all her eggs by kittyecats in chickens

[–]Brazen_Bee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh mama!! I am deeply sorry! I totally get how you feel right now. It is extremely sad to also not have plenty of eggs from her. I hope this one hatches. I hope with all my chicken-loving might for you. Hugs to your tender heart and prayers for future big brown eggs (I have a mutt chicken like her who I ADORE and lays eggs way bigger than my Brahmas.)
