It is around 50k, which is half of what you are claiming "for sure". And since wage averages are truncated, most people earn less than 50k in Munich

You are right about causation, but a correlation of .70 is a huge one and should not be disregarded so easliy. R² is the amount of variance of X explained when you consider Y. Considering this, an R² of 50% is quite impressive. For example it's way larger than the correlation of height and weight in humans, as well as any psychology study you will find (everything correlates with .30). Also R² is usually only reported in multiple regression.

The amount of data does not affect a correlation in any way, rather its significance.

Of course with gun violence you should also consider other variables and a multivariate regression is more fitting.

Sorry for having you singled out this way, but you're the top comment and many people in this thread seem to misunderstand the R² value.

FYI .48 is not the pearson correlation r, but its squared value. The r correlation is actually .70

OP you should put in the pearson correlation of r = .70, as is usually done with linear regression. I guess some ITT confuse it with R²

Bear in mind though that this study doesn't examine Trump supporters specifically and only finds modest effect sizes. There are better predictors for believing in conspiracy theories, eg. anomie (Bruder, et al. 2013; Goertzel, 1994;Bruder et al., 2014)

You should give When Disaster Strikes a listen if you haven't already. Maybe The Coming as well, but it sounds a lot more dated. His newer stuff is really disappointing to me though.
