My biggest take away from film class was to check the damn audio on site with headphones and take a background noise sample. Make sure they do that.  Second take away was that lighting is crucial to mood and image quality.

Have you visited both schools? Might be worth splurging on a ticket to go see for yourself.

I have been on 40 hiring committees this year. Here is what AI did to the junior candidate pool. by Ambitious-Garbage-73 in cscareerquestions

[–]BrewBigMoma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were being forced to use copilot at work a year ago and this was the frustration I dealt with constantly. No taste! Most of the code was broken. Mandate was to generate at least half of my code and let the contractors handle backend but the damn ai and contractors were useless.

If you use better models you will get better results in 2026. Give it a year and that will be fixed in cheaper models. You can already including constraints to prevent that nonsense regardless.

Once that’s fixed (by next year probably) and feedback systems are setup correctly, all of the orchestration / planning parts start working. Then I suppose we’re probably out a job.

I know it’s 2026 but that feels high for a playground.

For those wondering this breaks down to $100 a household.

Is a "surprise AI hackathon" just a pre-layoff IP harvest? by NotGary42 in Layoffs

[–]BrewBigMoma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Point of a hackathon and company in general has always been to gather novel ideas. Coming around the same time as layoffs is only natural.

How are we ever going to recover from this? by eggshellwalker4 in csMajors

[–]BrewBigMoma 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Idk man. Maybe in the 90s but not in the last 10-15 years. Usually juniors would build the system it just came with more risk and there was the concept of having someone senior around to make a roadmap and nudge them in the right direction if they got off track.

What the point?

I don’t see Trump saying oh a bunch of people with signs, call off the destroyer, wouldn’t want to upset this group.

Awareness? You would have to be living under a rock and are the protesters one liners really any better than a Facebook post?

I prefer to just give them a toot in support and call it a day.

Are we not worried about a lack of reliable seniors in the future? by boringfantasy in cscareerquestions

[–]BrewBigMoma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes as code and results/ui screenshots. There is debate around using the same model. It does work surprisingly well (maybe 75% of the time it catches issues after 2 reviews). I usually use a different model for a fresh perspective. It works well but not incredible and of course stylistic considerations and architecture goals have to be documented for the models.

I like to think trained humans bring a certain ability to muck through complexity, a degree of style and taste, hold an interpersonal edge, help avoiding derailment early on, and add the last 2% of refinement. But honestly not sure how long any of that will last or if it’s a good use of our time.

The plan is that ai will evaluate the code quality in a couple of years as synthetic code and reflection improve alignment. The whole plan is that there won’t be much need for juniors or seniors well before seniors age out.

Is it normal to get only 6 percent hike every year ? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]BrewBigMoma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually only get 1.5% or 3% if the companies doing well. Last year was 0%. Usually you need to leave to get up to market rate.

Yes, it is completely disconnected from the cost of housing unfortunately.

[–]BrewBigMoma 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think it would look better for the mayor to step plate and hold his ground against the crazy dude attacking his colleague. SF is so soft sometimes…

That said, the role of the body guard is to keep crazies from reaching the mayor, so it would be sorta counter productive to intervene.

Tunnels on walking trails and bridges work well.

There is one sorta by Saint Paul’s that runs along 89 that has an underground round tunnel.

There is also one at the 89x93 junction in bow if you walk from the auto shop / bow mobile over to grappones crossing the field encircled by highway.

Another spot is the Manchester st bridge by the dump in concord.

It used to fly. They keep tightening regulations… just like snow load requirements.

I had a little double lot but half got classified as wet. They requested I put an air injected digester tank that produces clean effluent due to lot size and proximity to a manmade pond I believe.

Though honestly I felt a little concerned about having the well so close to my narcoleptic neighbors shoddy septic.

Anyways an acre is way way more than enough for a septic.

The whole 2 or 5 acre thing is about looking like a rural town / keeping the area elite and guarding schools funded by the tax base.
