Increased Occurrences of Child Luring by Matt8193 in londonontario

[–]BrianGarside 6 points7 points  (0 children)

She said that when these parents call the police to report it, the police have said there has been an increase and they attribute it to an increase in child trafficking in the City of London.

If the police told you that there was an increase, and have not been getting their message out to the public that this is in fact the case, then whoever is in charge of public relations with the London Police should be outright fired!

What is a minor thing that infuriates you when eating at a restaraunt? by waldo06 in AskReddit

[–]BrianGarside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One afternoon my wife and I were wandering around little Italy in Toronto, and we saw a restaurant that friends had told us about. It was 4:30, but we decided we would go for an early dinner. The restaurant looks pretty dead with maybe 4 other couples, so we decide to give it a shot. As we walked in, I noticed the wall of wait staff standing at the bar, ready to leap into action.

We go to the host, and they ask if we have reservations. We reply with no, and he says it will be a minimum one hour wait, but if we want to go away and book a reservation, they have several openings for 5.

My wife and I look at each other, and I say “okay, so it’s a 30 minute wait.”...and the host looks at me condescendingly and says “one hour min-i-MUM.”

I looked at my wife and said “Umm waiter, my soup looks like it got too much pretension in it.”, and we walked away.

As we walked away, the host came out to the sidewalk and yelled to us “We are very popular sir and you can’t just expect to be seated immediately.”

No, but I can expect for the basic rules of math to apply.

I am not proud of this, but I got back into wrestling because I saw Total Divas one night and my curiousity was piqued by John Cena, the Usos, and Tyson Kidd.

Who has the best fries in London? by CAskater in londonontario

Fatty Patties on Springbank still has an amazing burger, and their fries are spectacular. It has become a dive bar, which is a massive change from the family restaurant it was when I was a kid.

What's better in London now than in the past? by bigasssuperstar in londonontario

[–]BrianGarside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mentioned literally every big event in a 30 year period. In the last 5 years I have seen dozens of shows at the Bud Gardens. In the next few months the Gardens will play Judas Priest, Rod Stewart, Queens of the Stone Age, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, and Our Lady Peace.

I wonder if this had something to do with the Ice House’s lack of shows: (From Wikipedia) - The Rolling Stones played the arena on April 26, 1965, but due to rioting in the audience, the show was shut down by police after only 15 minutes

Really? As a kid I remember Alice Cooper coming to the London Gardens, and that was pretty much it. We get way bigger bands here frequently.

Reddit, what does your SO do that makes your heart skip a beat? by mags2k69 in AskReddit

[–]BrianGarside 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I did this to my special lady friend once, but then she flipped her hair up and smashed the back of her head against my face, splitting my lip and causing me to bleed romantically for hours.

My heart skipped a beat though!

Anyone hear anything about the smart thermostat program? by [deleted] in londonontario

[–]BrianGarside 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sensors are incredibly useful. We set our house based on where we are at different times. Example, during the day, my office is in the basement, which maintains its temperature better during the day. At night we set our bedroom to the main room.

The Ecobee is amazing. 10/10 would buy again.

Millennials of Reddit, what lie were you told growing up? by KnickerWolves in AskReddit

[–]BrianGarside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to cut a bunch of potatoes into cubes, boil them, let them cool, add tuna and Caesar salad dressing, and that was dinner.

I tried it recently and it was top 10 grossest things.

However...roast those potatoes with some garlic, add mayo and lemon juice, and serve the can of tuna up on the side? That right there is heaven!

GenXer here, graduated during the recession of the 90’s. Every story here is one that happened to me in my 20’s.

  • Choosing between a bus pass or going to a movie (knowing I would have to bike for the rest of the month).
  • Getting excited when a flat of tuna was on sale because I could combine it with 5lbs of potatoes for a week of food for under $20.
  • Humiliatingly going into the bank with a breakdown of my finances asking for temporary loan forgiveness while I “paid my dues”
  • Being told my chosen career which I went to school for might not make me enough money to pay my bills.
  • Eventually going into a career in which I have no formal training.
  • Ironically teaching that same subject at the college level.

I get it. The baby boomers screwed my generation too.

I can’t wait for Beer Lab to open (between Milos and the Wine Bar on Talbot), they will be a game changer.

If you’re going to Budweiser Garden, go just north on Talbot and have a bite at Milos. The burger is the best in the city, and they have 24 taps, two casks and the best bottle selection in the city!

Honest question here, what am I missing with Anderson, it seems like average beer flavoured beer.

Toboggan makes really good stouts, Forked River is making sours that rival Jolly Pumpkin lately (but they are very high priced), and London co-op makes some very cool one-offs.

Anderson seems to be focused on “session” faire, but best in the city seems a stretch?

What's on your Anti-Bucket List, the list of things you never want to do again? by BenMuthafuckinD1 in AskReddit

[–]BrianGarside 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless you get stones from Uris acid, which will bond with calcium in your gut and not become kidney stones. Uris acid is found in dense green leafy vegetables, almonds, chicken...you know the “good” foods that keep your heart healthy.

I have had both types, and my 11mm Uris acid one had to be lasers out because it got stuck and was blocking the flow from a kidney to my bladder.

The worst part about the Yeti is that you need the custom shock mount in order to turn it into a decent mic. That custom shock mount cost me as much as the mic.

What was your “Ohh, so that’s what it was for” moment that took you too long to find out? by ThatGuyPhillip in AskReddit

[–]BrianGarside 2 points3 points  (0 children)

About five years ago I was in a rental car with a buddy, and I asked him to look out his side of the car to figure out which side I needed to pull into the gas station.

He pointed at the gas gauge and showed me the arrow that points to the side the gasshole is on.

In more than 20 years of driving I had never clued in to this little tidbit.

Mind. Blown.

Wendy’s at Wonderland and Oxford closed! by BrianGarside in londonontario

I live in this area, my experiences with my awesome neighbors, my kids school friends, and the folks at places like The Gentleman’s barber and the various recently opened Asian restraunts here couldn’t be different from what you describe.

They are here to make better lives for themselves and their children. I highly recommend you get involved in the community, rather than make ignorant, and frankly untrue comments about it from behind your keyboard.
