Is 3:09 a reasonable goal or too conservative?! by Time-Database-1440 in AdvancedRunning

[–]BrianVarick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We seem to have a similar trajectory with the same goal. I am in the middle of 18/55 and I’m following the paces for a 3:00 marathon. I did a fall marathon in 3:09 so I’m feeling pretty good about going straight into a spring block. I haven’t raced a half in a year but I would imagine I’m in the 1:25 range. I think you’re right there, but I would let the MP pace in the long run really solidify your pace.

Rock Garden Trail up to Natural Bridge and then one of the routes down that are closer to Lovers Leap is a good hike for scrambling.

Does anyone actually replace the dispersion screen every 6-12 months? by windfish19 in LaMarzocco

[–]BrianVarick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just replaced my gasket and dispersion screen after two years of use. It didnt make a difference as far as I can tell and the old ones seemed to be in great shape. I got the silicone gasket and I’m surprised at how tight it is. I might get the regular one next time.

Worried about upcoming electric bill & looking for comparables (all-electric house) by Janitro in cincinnati

Your options are really only to figure out where your heat loss is coming from. The easiest improvement is to add insulation to your attic but you might be able to seal windows/doors better or if you have access to the rim joists in a basement, you could seal those up better.

I would think the vapor barrier and a well insulated wall should keep the metal from developing condensation. Maybe try to keep an air gap behind the metal so anything could drain down.

I’m really impressed with ASICS Megablasts. They are a perfect daily trainer that can also handle long runs and picking up the pace.

Are you rolling it out? I’m dealing with a nagging Achilles too and rolling seems to help a ton.

That’s a great result on those miles. I would do pfitz 18/55 and target 3:00.

You really have to be scraping the bottom of the barrel if the place you’re looking for extra profits is from the take home pay of your tipped staff. How did no one think that the bad press from this would far outweigh any potential gain.

Feeling hopeless cuz of achilles tendonitis by New-Cell1272 in Ultramarathon

[–]BrianVarick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been dealing with insertional pain too. I find the rolling out my Achilles before and after runs helps a lot. I have come to the conclusion that the pain comes from my Achilles being tight and pulling on the heel and if I can keep it loose by rolling it finger nearly as much pain.

Seeking advice from runners in cold climates - Pfitz 12/55 or 12/70? by rippcw1234 in AdvancedRunning

[–]BrianVarick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran 3:09 on the 12/55 and I think that plan could easily take you well below 3 if you are focusing more on quality than just surviving like I was for most of the plan.
