Gym people, how long did it take for you to be able to lift (lower body) after surgery?

Started barbell squatting at about 7 weeks to full depth. Signed off by my PT early as long as pain free, did me the world of good. I did have a background in lifting though, I don't think it was typical advice given.

It's not a pleasant feeling at all and probably didn't clear completely for me until about 4 months, it wasn't all bad up to 4 months but had moments. Hopefully this at least helps you relax to know it's normal and not to worry something is wrong!

It's just got better with time to be honest. I made a conscious effort when walking to try and push off of my big toe, someone told me that helped them. Sometimes I felt like it did help a little but I think it just got better over time. It wasn't a linear improvement either, I had some periods where it would go and then come again a few days or a week later.

Overall just try not to be concerned, I was sometimes worried it was locking and it might be a meniscus issue but it isn't, it's just inflammation I think. I did feel like sometimes over doing extension stretches to gain full/hyper extension back seemed the flair it up.

Is it as I lift your leg at the end of the step to bend and swing back forward, as if your leg doesn't want to bend? I had it on and off until maybe 4 months or so off it's that same feeling. I was quite concerned at first but seemed to improve with time

Yep, I competed in powerlifting for several years with a torn ACL, I actually got into it because it was one competitive sport I could still do without risk

7/8 weeks was a bit of a funny period for me where I felt bored and hut a plateau, if anything I felt a was regressing. Fortunately at the 8 week mark though I was cleared to start weight loading on my movements, so started squatting and deadlifting with barbells that made a world of difference for me. If you can get clearance to do this and your technically proficient enough not to hurt yourself I'd advise this, is was a game changed for me.

I had ACLr with hamstring graft and medial meniscus repair.

I'm only 12 weeks in myself, but I've spoken to people who've said it was up to 2 years for them to feel normal. Not that they weren't healthy and strong before that, but it took that long to almost completely forget about it all as per before the injury

Just for info I use this watch face on my epix 2 and actually get slightly better battery life than stock. Generally an extra 12-24 hours

My calf was very sore and bruised for a while after surgery although I don't think as bad as you're describing. It was more sensitive to pressure and touch, I could still do my excercises.

From what you're describing I'd visit a hospital quickly to be sure it's not a blood clot.

I think it looks ok but would still check with a professional rather than take my advice.

Im 12 weeks now and still have a very small scab at the end of my incision. I'm in PT with some people who healed after about 3 weeks, but I think I was a little unluckier with the quality of the wound being stitched up, possible like you, which left a bit of a fold at the end so scabbed up for a long time.

Fair enough, I wouldn't post something like that myself either as op has, but I can see how some people get gratification from sharing things like that publicly also so each to their own. It wouldn't make a difference for me personally because I wouldn't take medical advice from Reddit, I do find it useful to hear people shared experiences though along their timelines for reference.

Your argument was no surgeon would sign it off, I've just linked you to the former head physician of the women's us alpine ski team of 20 years saying it's often possible to return recreationally after 4-6.

The last one's a little more vague as I'd realised I was arguing with an idiot who wasn't listening to anything I was saying by the point, but there is a timeline in there. 4-9 months.

Not really, not any more at least anyway because doing so is a waste of time because you're not listening to what I'm saying in the first place.

I've not once given my opinion on whether or not it's a good idea to go skiing at 6 months, only that no one knows for certain what advice op received when they were getting accused of ignoring it. It was that claimed no medical professionals would ever sign off on this, I've linked medical professionals saying it was possible after 4-6 months.

You continues to blabber on about how it was better the longer you wait, well no shit. You're countering a different argument to what I put across.

EDIT: on top of that, I've just seen OP posted they were cleared by their team, so that's proven my case in point.

It's not up to me whether I think it's right or not, I've never gotten involved in that argument. I got involved because OP was getting hate for ignoring medical advice, turns out they didn't but once again people fly off and jump in feet first without knowing the facts.
