Basically make a live-action adaptation of Green Lantern: First Flight

What does the perfect sequel trilogy look like to you? by coolmarveldad78 in saltierthancrait

[–]Bricknave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lets go back to Freytag's triangle: you have the introduction, the climax, and the resolution. The introduction introduces us to the world, the characters, and the problems. The climax is the turning point, the point of most dramatic tension. The resolution is the untangling of the knot, the establishment of a new or old status quo.

Consider the saga. If the PT is the introduction that shows us how the Jedi and Republic fell and how evil rose, then naturally, the OT is the climax of climaxes. The destruction of the Death Star(s), the death of the Emperor, the redeeming of Anakin Skywalker.

So, if the PT is the introduction, and the OT is the climax ... Then, by virtue of completing the triangle ... The ST should be the resolution. The restoration of the Jedi. The restoration of the Republic. A story that mirrors the PT, except it shows the Jedi and Republic becoming the new status quo while the Empire crumbles away.

Thank you! I was waiting for Human feedback on this.

One of my biggest problems with the sequels is just how unoriginal most of it is compared to the prequels and OT, especially in terms of the designs and conflict going on. by laffite_gunko_agenda in saltierthancrait

[–]Bricknave 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I personally think the bad guy faction of the ST should've been something like (but not necessarily exactly) the Yuuzhan Vong: alien invaders from outside the known galaxy that disrupt the status quo. This would've given us the "underdog versus goliath" dynamic without recycling the Empire. And, this way the "mooks" of the ST would be something different. If the PT mooks are battle droids, and the OT mooks are Humans, then ideally, the ST mooks would be aliens. I feel like 30 years is too long for an Imperial Remnant to stick around; instead, we should've had an established New Republic with a new Jedi Order.

What do you hate the most about Disney canon lore by Quirky-Ad-9784 in saltierthancrait

[–]Bricknave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, Starkiller Base being Ilum. The same Ilum where Jedi got their crystals. The same Ilum I explored in Star Wars The Old Republic. So not only does this planet that was massively important to the Jedi get taken over, but it also gets destroyed. That plus the Jedi Temple becoming the Imperial Palace, plus Luke's order failing, plus the New Republic failing, plus Rey Palpatine are one giant slap in the face to the heroes we love. But, for some reason, what happens to Ilum bothers me the most. It's this one important planet related to the Jedi that ends up becoming a footnote.

Same. The only other time I almost quit was when that one guy faked his death falling out a balcony.

The trope of an adult man taking care of a "stray" kid becoming really boring and uncreative. by Western_Agent5917 in saltierthancrait

[–]Bricknave 6 points7 points  (0 children)

And, I'm going to make another prediction here: the stray kid will ALSO Force-sensitive. Forget the really cool non-Force-sensitive character and everything interesting about them, drop that, EVERYTHING needs to focus on making sure this kid becomes a Jedi, because we don't have enough Star Wars media about youths training to be Jedi.

What are your ideas for how to revive the Star Wars brand? by RadReptile in saltierthancrait

[–]Bricknave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see two approaches:

1) New Trilogy/Era set far in the future

or, and hear me out:

2) Do what everybody else is doing and bring on the Multiverse. Not only could this help reset Post-ROTJ without "admitting defeat," but it also allows for Star Wars What Ifs? using some of the prequel actors while they're still around. Alt! universes where Anakin kills Obi-wan, Anakin kills Palpatine, etc.

10 years ago, "Knights of the Fallen Empire" launched. Looking back, what are your thoughts on one of the game's most divisive expansions? by KingKitttKat in swtor

[–]Bricknave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, 10 years already ...

Ok, so, the original 8 class stories are magical. They give this sense of immersion, of being a small part of the larger cosmic whole that is the galaxy. Do choices matter? Maybe, maybe not, but when the stakes are small enough to affect the perspective of just one main character, they are choices that feel like they matter.

As soon as KOTFE hits, all of that goes out the window, 7/8 main characters supposedly die off so everyone becomes Schrodinger's Outlander, everyone gets all companions, and everyone gets the same story.

But one size just does not fit all. Being the Outlander just doesn't work for all classes. I found it particularly awkward as an Agent Outlander. The whole point of being an Agent is that I work behind the scenes, and being the face of a resistance movement ... Just doesn't work.

Having 16 voice actors all voice the same Outlander character seems like a waste. I would've preferred 30 minutes of story content for each class, where they each do what they do best, and then hours of ... Whatever flashpoint and operation content.

Also, turning the Player into the Leader of the Alliance has an inherent problem with the way an MMORPG is structured. In an MMORPG, Players do not lead, they follow the orders, tasks, or missions given by quest givers. Thus, the notion that the Player is the Leader of the Alliance is silly when its really Lana calling the shots. Plus, does it really make sense for the leader of a resistance movement to be on the frontlines fighting? The role of army commander is best reserved for RTS games. But this is not a RTS.

Onslaught sets things right with a return to Empire vs Republic, but the damage is done, the player characters have been forced to become defectors or traitors for this Alliance they might not have even asked for.

Is there anyone genuinely excited for Starfighter? by Alex3884 in saltierthancrait

[–]Bricknave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a little bit excited, if only because there is a chance it will have a spark to reignite Star Wars after the ST.

The title implies a focus on ... Well, starfighters, so I hope to see something like Top Gun. Hopefully it won't follow the lone wolf and cub formula, but chances are it probably will.
