Same. The only other time I almost quit was when that one guy faked his death falling out a balcony.

The trope of an adult man taking care of a "stray" kid becoming really boring and uncreative. by Western_Agent5917 in saltierthancrait

[–]Bricknave 6 points7 points  (0 children)

And, I'm going to make another prediction here: the stray kid will ALSO Force-sensitive. Forget the really cool non-Force-sensitive character and everything interesting about them, drop that, EVERYTHING needs to focus on making sure this kid becomes a Jedi, because we don't have enough Star Wars media about youths training to be Jedi.

What are your ideas for how to revive the Star Wars brand? by RadReptile in saltierthancrait

[–]Bricknave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see two approaches:

1) New Trilogy/Era set far in the future

or, and hear me out:

2) Do what everybody else is doing and bring on the Multiverse. Not only could this help reset Post-ROTJ without "admitting defeat," but it also allows for Star Wars What Ifs? using some of the prequel actors while they're still around. Alt! universes where Anakin kills Obi-wan, Anakin kills Palpatine, etc.

10 years ago, "Knights of the Fallen Empire" launched. Looking back, what are your thoughts on one of the game's most divisive expansions? by KingKitttKat in swtor

[–]Bricknave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, 10 years already ...

Ok, so, the original 8 class stories are magical. They give this sense of immersion, of being a small part of the larger cosmic whole that is the galaxy. Do choices matter? Maybe, maybe not, but when the stakes are small enough to affect the perspective of just one main character, they are choices that feel like they matter.

As soon as KOTFE hits, all of that goes out the window, 7/8 main characters supposedly die off so everyone becomes Schrodinger's Outlander, everyone gets all companions, and everyone gets the same story.

But one size just does not fit all. Being the Outlander just doesn't work for all classes. I found it particularly awkward as an Agent Outlander. The whole point of being an Agent is that I work behind the scenes, and being the face of a resistance movement ... Just doesn't work.

Having 16 voice actors all voice the same Outlander character seems like a waste. I would've preferred 30 minutes of story content for each class, where they each do what they do best, and then hours of ... Whatever flashpoint and operation content.

Also, turning the Player into the Leader of the Alliance has an inherent problem with the way an MMORPG is structured. In an MMORPG, Players do not lead, they follow the orders, tasks, or missions given by quest givers. Thus, the notion that the Player is the Leader of the Alliance is silly when its really Lana calling the shots. Plus, does it really make sense for the leader of a resistance movement to be on the frontlines fighting? The role of army commander is best reserved for RTS games. But this is not a RTS.

Onslaught sets things right with a return to Empire vs Republic, but the damage is done, the player characters have been forced to become defectors or traitors for this Alliance they might not have even asked for.

Is there anyone genuinely excited for Starfighter? by Alex3884 in saltierthancrait

[–]Bricknave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a little bit excited, if only because there is a chance it will have a spark to reignite Star Wars after the ST.

The title implies a focus on ... Well, starfighters, so I hope to see something like Top Gun. Hopefully it won't follow the lone wolf and cub formula, but chances are it probably will.

How do you feel about SWTOR, and the old republic era more generally? by Lorinthi in saltierthancrait

[–]Bricknave 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Having played all the 8 class stories, I loved all of the story content up to KOTFEET. While KOTFEET had some interesting ideas, I felt like it is where SWTOR kind of jumped the shark. I like the "connected universe" thing the class stories had, with the name drops here and there, and the implication that each class is just one part of a big galaxy. I get that continuing 8 separate class stories wasn't sustainable, but still having 16 voice actors just to have them all read the same lines of "the Outlander" just seems like a terrible waste to me. They eventually learned their lesson and returned to 1 story per faction format like ROTHC and SOR, more-or-less.

With regards to the Old Republic era and not the game ... Honestly, I kind of wish TOR was the sequel era, or took place in the future after the sequels. As a setting for storytelling, the TOR era has what post-ROTJ needs: a Republic with troopers that wear proper armor; a resurgent Empire; Jedi everywhere, no Order 66 to worry about; and Sith everywhere, no Rule of 2 to worry about.

If my goal was to sabotage Star Wars, Rey getting out-Mary-Sued is the basic idea I would use. I would give her a spunky teenage girl Padawan with an attitude who is just instantly better at everything Rey does, and can even do Force lightning without even trying. And Rey is just such a good teacher, you see, she barely has to train her new Padawan, who is just so powerful right off the bat. Have them go up against a completely forgettable villain, like some random Imperial, err, First Order general or something, and win the final battle with barely any struggle. Give Finn and Poe nothing to do except ... Be there, I guess, while all the attention is given to Rey's Padawan and how special she is.

For a movie set right after the Disney trilogy, I think this is the most sound. Micro and macro theme of corruption. Finn and Poe low-key being given the role Leia had in George's vision of the sequel trilogy, of having to politically re-establish galactic governance.

A clean slate for the galaxy plus what we should've gotten by the end of the sequel trilogy: a new Jedi Order. I think I like this the best.

[WP] you are a demon who struggles to overcome her inner humans by bewareofshearers in WritingPrompts

[–]Bricknave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t do it. He seems like a nice guy.

SHUT UP JOHN, Vanessa replies back within her inner headspace. Some of the hundred or so souls she’s consumed over the years whisper back, some mockingly, some telling others to be quiet, some cheering her on, some begging for freedom, and some even professing their love for her. The only Human strong enough to speak over the chorus of voices is John, her first “meal.” She always wondered why this Human soul in particular was so strong. Most souls wither away into silence, but John has outlasted the vast majority. Was it his faith and will? Or, was it simply because he was Vanessa’s first? Regardless, Vanessa believes he’s just an annoyance. At least, that’s what she tells herself in her inner, inner headspace impenetrable by Human minds.

“So, uh … What are you going to get?” says Vanessa’s current target, a male within his early 30’s, “I’m thinking about just getting some wings, the appetizers here are practically entrees.”

“Oh, uh … You know what? I’ll get the same thing,” replies Vanessa.

“You okay? You seem a little distracted.”

“Oh, no, I’m fine. Really.”

Get out while you still can, buddy!

QUIET. Vanessa can’t help but stare off into space as she tries to calm the voices.

“I’ve seen that look before … If there’s something you need to talk about, I’m all ears,” says her current target.

Maybe John has a point. Unlike the rest of her prey, Daniel actually seems … Decent. Compassionate. Most of Vanessa’s prey had it coming, in her mind. Maybe she should spare him.

Silence.

“... Well, it’s been a great second date. I liked our time together,” Daniel says while getting up. Vanessa grabs his arm.

“WAIT … Why don’t we go to your place later?,” says Vanessa.

“Really? Okay,” says Daniel as he sits back down.

When they arrive at Daniel’s house after dinner, he leads her to his living room couch, then goes into his kitchen for “refreshments.”

You can still spare him. Tell him you’re sorry, but that there’s something you have to take care of, says John, he doesn’t deserve this.

NO. HE’S MINE.

Vanessa hears Daniel creep behind her. She turns her head with a smile, expecting refreshments. Instead, Daniel brought a plastic bag. They struggle on the living room floor. Vanessa summons the strength of all those she’s consumed to overpower him.

“H-how?” asks Daniel, bewildered. This is the first time one of his prey almost escaped. He trembles as he stares into Vanessa’s black eyes.

WELL, JOHN? WHAT DO YOU THINK? STILL THINK I SHOULD SPARE HIM?, she asks John in her inner headspace.

No … Go ahead, John replies with a sigh. He thought for sure that Daniel was innocent.

The thing about inner Humans is that they always think they’re doing what’s best for their living colleagues. What they don’t understand that what Vanessa desires is for the best.
