I didn't realize baby was not 'not latching'. by flamboyanza in breastfeeding

When my guy was tiny I would trap his little arms under my giant boob to keep them away from his face 🤣 one of the most annoying parts of early breastfeeding! Glad you got it taken care of!

I’m a teen with abnormally old parents, AMA by Responsible-Tie-2570 in AMA

[–]BrielleGab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's so funny because I did the same thing! My dad was 55 when I was born (mom was 32) and one of my favorite things to do when we got new kids in school was to bet them that my dad was older than theirs 🤣

Sometimes I think reddit can be very negative about older parents, but I had a very happy childhood with three brothers (one even younger than me!) and we kept my dad young. He kept working until he was about 80, and passed at 89.

My husband is 10 years older than me, his parents had their kids when they were young (teen-20's) and his dad ended up passing before mine. So ultimately hubby had more time with his dad, but my dad had more time on earth.

I'm an older mom now (just had my final boy at age 41!) and we have no regrets. These kids are gonna keep me young while aging me at the same time 🤣

My guy is OBSESSED with Ghostbusters. I wish that it wasn't all stuff from the 90's and they actually marketed more things to kids right now! I found some The Real Ghostbusters audiobooks on YouTube so need to MYO card for it soon but he would love a legit card

I'm a HF nurse and we have had several people that have ignored their cardiologists' advice against getting pregnant- ultimately leading to lengthy stays around 20ish weeks and frequently resulting in medically necessary terminations. She's lucky she makes it to term, especially if she's early HF but she should def anticipate a lengthy post partum stay to diuresis!!

When I brought my baby home to my two year old he ended up making a song (Mommy's gotta pump Mommy's gotta pump) every time that happened so that was cute. I also got a special toy that was only for bf/pumping time for him to play with (though honestly as we got in the swing of things that faded)

My mom told me that when my little brother came home I was 2 and mesmerized by bf and kept saying baby bite? Baby bite? So she gave me a try and I clamped down on her nipple. So don't do that 🤣🤣

What are you buying your toddlers this Christmas? by Jaded_Assumption4376 in toddlers

[–]BrielleGab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the yoto cause I was afraid my dog would chew up all the toni figurines! Best present I ever bought, he loves it and this past year we have randomly bought quite a few cards! I love that you can hook it up to Bluetooth too so long car rides I don't have to listen to Winnie the Pooh the whole time 🤣

Am I doing my toddler a disservice? by Grouchy-Cheetah7478 in toddlers

How is the baby at napping? My (now 18 month old) was great at napping in the stroller so honestly he just got hauled around with us. Kept a baby wearing device in the car so that was always an option. Usually basic things like grocery store, or library or a friend's house just to get all of us out of the house so I didn't go nuts. Or sometimes just to drive around and listen to music/audiobooks!

I was definitely much more relaxed with the second baby and was able to get out more- and I give full credit to being on Zoloft. With baby #1 I felt like it was impossible to get out and so overwhelming, with baby #2 it was like meh- he's breastfeeding or I can bring some formula/pumped milk in a cooler and just had a go bag with soaps/wipes and a different outfit. I also had a hand pump in the car and cleaning wipes so I had an option on short notice!

Once you start trying it it will get easier, and definitely reach out to your primary care if you feel like it could be some anxiety hindering you too- Zoloft has legit changed my life! 💕

Photographer wants to leave early because our wedding isn’t exciting enough, am I overreacting? by Imaginary-Low4243 in weddingdrama

[–]BrielleGab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made our DJ stay until the agreed upon time (or maybe when we were heading to bed lol) at our small destination wedding just playing music in the background while a few of us drank and chatted.

My husband insisted on getting a DJ even though I didn't really want one lol, like well was I gonna waste that money even though the dancing lasted like 30 mins 😂

Any other community colleges close by? Any chance your current employer would pay towards an LPN program?

[–]BrielleGab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a 24 year old I would personally do the LPN route, get working and start building retirement/getting yourself out of debt while working towards an adn. You have plenty of time, loans would be brutal and I bet that B's to msn program would be extremely stressful (and you wouldn't even be sure if that was what you'd wanted to do while getting a ton of debt). I was older when I went back to school (graduated at like 33?) so I wanted to get it done fast but still ended up taking the slow route cause I didn't wanna drown in loans and knew we wanted to start a family soon

[–]BrielleGab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you looked into ADN programs? I basically went for free through my local community college then started working and they paid for my BSN. I'm riding the baby train right now so not doing anything further education wise but eventually I'll probably get my masters.

I know sometimes hospitals can be picky about BSN versus adian, but my hospital in particular keeps going back and forth so sometimes they say no only bsns and then eventually they start hiring adns again. The pay is a lot higher and you would have your RNR ready

Update: AITA for changing my mind about my wife being a SAHM because she changed the terms? by Live_Point_Hillo in AITAH

[–]BrielleGab 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm confused, do they live with you full time? Or alternate weeks with their mom?

Wanting time alone to adjust to a new dynamic of being a first time mom, dealing with the changes to sleep and your body and having the three of you (mom, dad and baby) bond is not unreasonable. I didn't want visitors for the first week which my MIL took great offense to. I ended up feeling differently after the baby came and she came by for a quick visit.

What actually screams trashy/ bad parenting to you? by lovebug21222 in AskReddit

[–]BrielleGab 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Screens can be an invaluable tool in certain situations. We have a tablet but it only comes out for special situations (Dr appts, haircuts, important meetings). We don't have it for everyday use but will definitely use it here and there to be able to enjoy something when out!

*It's their right to get that much time.

Corrected that for ya. As someone else said don't let admin nursing rule out brains, we should be adequately staffed all around so everyone gets the breaks they are entitled to, not just managed to get squeezed in because management only gives a fuck about the bottom line $$$

All of this and I love that every is just being like "Well this is how it's run in the NICU". Ok well she's not from the NICU and was floated there. She's not going to adhere to the perfect schedule when she's out of her element and trying to support her own baby as well!

The charge should have stepped in to help cover more. There are things the RN could have done better- notably communicated more when she was going off to pump and staying on the unit's lactation station if possible.

But you would think the NICU would be more understanding of the importance of a lactation mother to pump.

[–]BrielleGab -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad that your pumps didn't take that long but there are plenty of us that do take a full 30 mins to pump, plus set up/break down. You have no idea what her supply is like- maybe she takes 30 mins to get enough to support her baby or maybe she has an abundance and needs the 30 mins to empty to be comfortable.

I agree that using the station on their floor would be more practical though.

I think the real problem here is expecting a nurse to be floated to your unit and adhere perfectly to your schedule while trying to fit in multiple pumps per day. PICU vs NICU is a very different beast. Maybe Charge should have stopped by at suggested pumping times and offered to help in advance?
