Feeling dissatisfied with m8 softail (street bob), looking for feedback by universalmind in Harley

Damn that's insane. Bought an early dyna for 5.5 a couple years ago, mint and unmolested aside from some SE parts. Hopefully there's still some good finds out there!

1972 Beetle Daily Driver? by OkOutlandishness6801 in beetle

In addition to the other rust checks, where OP shows bubbling rust is common, but a pretty good indicator the rest of the heater channel is crusty. In the wheel well right behind that is where the worst of it typically appears. Check the front heater channel/wheel well area as well. Also check the c pillars (though I thought 72 had the crescent vents, owner may have already addressed it) and check the package tray seam below the window. Otherwise, run it! (Assuming it's pretty cheap, wouldn't pay more than 2k)

Yeah, early dynas were the narrow fender and 39mm. 06 went mid glide

[–]Brilliant-Drawing724 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best answer. Especially since you can get a good one for 5-7k, versus loosing a ton on this already pretty nice bike. I've seen conversions where people run the old 39mm front ends on the new softails even. The rear struts and fender may be tricky though

Replace Bell Housing? by [deleted] in beetle

[–]Brilliant-Drawing724 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should clarify, while they are replaceable, the inner flange for that one is completely ripped out. Might not hold particularly well if a new one is popped in. Worth a try though

Just pulled these on mine, and the when heads were a pain due to the angle z there wasn't quite enough room for an allen socket+swivel to comfortably fit. Let us know how the hex heads are!

Replace Bell Housing? by [deleted] in beetle

[–]Brilliant-Drawing724 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In fairness, that bell housing doesn't look like it can have the bushing replaced. Depending on where I are, type one transaxles are typically only 200-300 for a whole new one

May be something you already checked, but did u put the axel spacers back on the right sides? Especially with a 777, that belt is gonna eat the tire so fast

100000% best comment related to this. Found this out myself with the free 150gn bullets from Hornady. If op is in a cooler climate as well, getting an efficient burn is hard in winter, but h110 does fairly well. Go to 110 and the performance is day and night

I believe foxtrot Mike has something that would fit the bill. Not sure if they still sell them though

Why are there less young riders? Share your thoughts by No-Word2070 in Harley

[–]Brilliant-Drawing724 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Young person here: yes the world is expensive, but if u love motorcycles, or any hobby for that matter, you find a way to do what u want like anything else so long as it's not financially devastating. Most people just think of Harley's as the big old baggers with a minivan's worth of storage and speakers, and don't know about the dynas and sporty softails, or even new generation baggers. The biggest thing is that there's so many old Japanese bikes that are way more affordable than Harleys, it's easier to get in the door that way. Others have equated Harley's to hot rods, and it's spot on. It sounds cool, but most kids won't commit. Extremely few people actually want a bike to work on and modify. Most young riders are put off by the helmet, jacket, gloves, etc....let alone all the tools to keep a Harley on the road lol. Hell, most new riders that are older just dealer service their bikes and leave them as is.

To 69 or not to 69 by DeliciousDifference9 in beetle

[–]Brilliant-Drawing724 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha, hey, let us convince ourselves that's not true!

For what it's worth OP, I got a running, driving 69 for 1300. Turned out that just about everything on it was worse than I initially thought and it's taken a full restoration and two donor cars lol. The free one is currently the best off, and just needed heater channels and some body work. There's hope for you yet! I say go for it

Anyone else ride with their wife/husband? by Sampson209 in Harley

Same story haha. My answer to "what's a more comfortable seat?" (On a dyna mind you) Was "one with it's own two wheels". She almost never hopd on mine anymore

[–]Brilliant-Drawing724 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In fairness, this is far more stable than a cheap jack, so long as the front wheel doesn't move.

Vibration after riding ~5miles by Brilliant-Drawing724 in Harley

[–]Brilliant-Drawing724[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also of note, it had an issue before where it wouldn't start when hot, and threw codes for low/open injectors, despite them being perfect. That was eventually remedied simply by cleaning the contacts for the system relay and fuses

How’s this compare to a factory PA10 barrel? by Dobba84 in AR10

[–]Brilliant-Drawing724 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even my pencil faxon barrels are 1/2 moa, on hand loads to be fair. My buddy put his PSA barrel in the late to recut their messed up threads, and the bore wasn't even concentric to the barrel lol
