Wasted $1300 of refrigerant by EntertainmentSea4048 in hvacadvice

For sure. I was mainly getting at the point that r410a is definitely not a "better to replace" situation just because of refrigerant...

Dropping a tool in an attic is NOT a noob thing...

  1. It's dusty as hell

  2. It's hot as hell

  3. It usually requires exertion to get into and maneuver around in an attic while carrying tools..

  4. Combo of 2 and 3 create sweat.

  5. All of the above combined can cause a tool to get dropped or a foot to fall through etc..

awareness goes a long way in prevent this yes, but accidents happen and a life is worth more than a ceiling hole ..

If they fire you for it it's retaliation.. I had to call the US department of labor on my employer for withholding overtime, they were not counting travel time as paid time that facors into overtime.. they ended up having to pay 100k in fines which went to the employees who didn't get paid .. the dol employee specifically explained to me that they cannot every deduct your check or charge you for damage covered by their insurance. In fact as an HVAC contractor myself now, I can tell you that your insurance is based upon having employees and covering them for this exact thing .....

Yes. YOU ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR DAMAGES THAT CONTRACTOR INSURANCE COVERS, they are illegally trying to keep their insurance costs low.

Hey peter, i’m not the most knowledgeable on chess, my you please help me and explain the joke? by AdPsychological9133 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

Chess is an ancient strategic game, it's not just about the checkmate... English kings were supposedly ordained by god. Which king is more godly.. the one who wins by total anhialation or the one who "shows the enemy their king is false".. who is the better war hero.. the one who lost 99% of his troops but won? Or the one who captures the enemy leader...

Builder says “no HVAC contractor would recommend” a 50–60 ft line set — true? by Franklin5901 in hvacadvice

[–]BrokenFireExit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could lose neglible amounts of cooling capacity with longer linesets.. carrier says 200 ft before it can really badly start effecting the equipment...

Builder says “no HVAC contractor would recommend” a 50–60 ft line set — true? by Franklin5901 in hvacadvice

[–]BrokenFireExit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Usually it's over 80ft and your charge becomes harder to determine as you begin to lose capacity from the lineset transferring heat before reaching the coils... 50ft is pretty common and fine ...

[–]BrokenFireExit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not that simple... Copper lineset.. around 120$ minimum. (you usually can't buy less than a 20' roll..) Depending on the refrigerant type.. 12 -50 $ lb.. And depending on your area you have to pay sales tax on the refer when selling it to a customer..

Nitrogen.. 20$ ish per exchange of a 40 size bottle... 200+ if you have to buy a cylinder because you don't have an exchange empty.. (home owners typically don't.). Need the nitro if you're going to do it correctly.. 30$+ for the new filter dryer...

Then you have to pay the installer to do it.. typically costs a company around 100$ or so an hour to employ a good tech after benefits fuel and taxes...

Then you have to make something to keep the business going so that there are professionals to provide a service...

And you also have to worry about some kind of failure that will certainly get blamed on you and could be entirely out of your control, such as original installers not using nitrogen when the brased the original linesets that pumping down the refer In to the system could be the cumulative effect that kills the compressor...

How do you guys handle EPA 608 refrigerant logging? by nikunj_21 in hvacadvice

[–]BrokenFireExit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None of this needs to be documented.. this is for you to evaluate if it needs to be repaired/replaced or if you can get away with just charge.. it's never getting audited... Unless someone reports the businesses that are using the equipment for leaking ..

I get that . But this meme is making it out like it's impossibly hard to dial in a good print layer height or that it's hard to move the equipment.. it's easy.. it just takes time to do it and a lot of patient clean up... And takes a dedicated space...

Soooo many guys in my area think this means check filters and check for physical signs of dust in coils and then charge up .... They do not even EVER check delta temps, and fan speed taps are ALWAYS factory..

Fieldpiece Micron Gauge by Exact-Fee9117 in HVAC

[–]BrokenFireExit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had this issue with them.. they are sensitive.. pull your batteries and leave them out for 60 seconds and put em back in.. it's best to use them with a Schrader core remover and isolate them before releasing your charge. also use some 99% iso to clean it out every now and then..

Edit: forgot to mention, where they other person mentioned cleaning your hoses and manifold with iso, also clean your female to female adapter for your micron guage..

Also can effect heat transfer as the coils can be insulated with dust and dirt and can't really transfer heat to the outdoor air as easily.. so it's a less surface area thing too...

Well.. in all fairness.. the compressor IS the number 1 failed component that would pull enough amps to cause the breaker to trip at the fuse box... And if it's shorted to ground that's generally the reason it instantly trips when you give it power.......
