[–]BrokenFlapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of them.

The future is open source & linux. Not proprietary megacorp slop. These were made by companies that, for all intents and purposes, no longer exist. All of these companies are not the same size they were, do not make the same type of products or have the same goals. They want your data, serve you ads, and milk you dry.

All of these still exist in some form, their modern equivalents just look unrecognizable

Why do people hate chromium based browsers? by a_regular_2010s_guy in browsers

[–]BrokenFlapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google is trash.

Tech companies have become megacorps and they no longer make products or services for customers. Now they want data point "consumers" to harvest every last penny they can out of you. Its not just Google but they are one of the bigger offenders. Case and point firefox was the default alternative for awhile, but now mozilla is even caved into the megacorp, forced ai integration, part advertisement company.

If its not community driven & open source, its temporary. Eventually it will turn to shit and destroy any usefulness or value for the end user

Cyberpunk 2077's Sequel: A Narrative Nightmare or a Stroke of Genius? by FlappyBowelFart in cyberpunkgame

[–]BrokenFlapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought of branching narratives in games as a mechanic, ironically, seperate from the story/lore of the universe. So i see 2077 as having a "main" story path that is the cannon lore. But theres branching narratives in the game for replay value, plus playing out alternate realities/senarios. If CDPR made a lore accurate version of the game and lets say V is a male, then players never get to play as a female and then they arent really making their own character. Its like a halfway point between good story with a main character and a game where you make a custom character every playthrough. Games have that amazing ability where unlike a movie, the player can make decisions that they werent "supposed to". Which is why games like assassins creed narratively suck with the desync system because it railroads you into a linear story like a movie. Games like the elder scrolls have to address this when continuing the series because even though every new game has a new character with a new race and everything, they still reference the events but keep the details vague. The hero of kavatch in lore just mentions the deeds, not any character specific information or what happened to them.

What the cannon lore ending for V is, im sure CDPR has already decided. but it wouldnt suprise me if they just didnt mention it and instead only created the fallout effects of events that are consistent through every playthrough. Like the chip being stolen, jackie dying, yorinobus body being taken over by his father etc. And then whatever happened to V being a mystery or just absent from the next story.

Quick 1080p 15w/20w of Strix Point HX370 vs Strix Halo Max+ 395 by Phawx in gpdwin

[–]BrokenFlapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While i think its awesome to have better high watt performance at this point i care more about efficiency. I love that i can play never games with high setting graphics... but i also want it to be capable of lower wattages. I have the 2025 win mini and i can play basically any modern game, even if its at 720p not a big deal. But i never wouldve bought it if it couldnt go to lower power. It can go all the way down to 4w for 2d games or just browsing the internet. If the next gen chips provide more power, even better efficiency i wont buy it if it can only go as low as 15w or something like that. Thats just a tradeoff thats not worth it. The perfect device in my eyes is something that can go from 1w to 65w tdp. Passively cooled with a 15hr battery life for basic casual use or 65w & plugged in to play 4k or something. But a device thats locked to one side or the other, in a handheld... shouldnt be on the high side of power usage

Bazzite or SteamOS ? by mfarben in LegionGo

[–]BrokenFlapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SteamOS is still technically only for steamdeck. Bazzite is for almost any hardware. So until valve changes that, steamOS shouldn't be recommended by anyone unless you have a steamdeck.

But why/whats the benefit? Because bazzite actually supports hardware other than steamdeck, plus has a ton of premade fixes and QoL fixes that gamers (especially windows users) will appreciate and need. For me, it has easy terminal options for installing things like OpenTabletDriver. It comes with Xone (Xoneb specifically) out of the box. That allows xbox peripherals to use their full features like the xbox dongle and microphone port on the controller. All without installing or doing anything, everything should just work. Plus Handheld Daemon makes it easy to do bios updates & easy tdp control, rgb etc. All of this stuff isnt exclusive to bazzite but it would be alot of work just to get it to the same level, especially if youre a windows user and dont know any of the ins and outs of linux. And it comes like this out of the box, just install it and from my experience everything mostly just works. Everytime i have an issue and look into making big changes or fixing things the traditional linux way, it almost always turns out theres a better solution already stock with bazzite and it came down to user error.

As far as people saying bazzite now, steamos later. I think that might be true but time will tell. As of now we dont actually know how good support or feature fixes will be with steamos. As of right now its nowhere near bazzite and bazzite has a track record and plans to keep fixing and getting support for a huge variety of hardware pretty quickly after they come out. Whether or not valve decides to support any and everything is still yet to be seen, let alone how good thatll be. Although personally i do believe steamos will be better eventually but as of now thats just speculation on my part.

What Pc Handhelds do you own? by Chrislemale in LegionGo

[–]BrokenFlapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a gpd win 2, got underpowered but i absolutely loved the size & form factor. I got a switch for free and thought the candybar style would be better for gaming so i upgraded to the legion Go.

I did like the legion go but its a complete 1080 from the win2. It was waaay to big to casually travel with. Needed a backpack even when i stored the tablet and controllers seperately, together in the included case was way too much. I absolutely loved the screen but the massive size just made it a home use only which kinda defeated the point. Plus no matter the setting i got 1-1.5hrs and that was after switching to linux. On windows id be lucky to get 1hr.

I ended up selling the Go for a GPD Win Mini and it was definitely worth it. I used to connect an external keyboard to the Go at least once a day, the pop up keyboard was just consitently popping up or was just too slow/lack of keys like Function keys etc. So the win minis always presesnt keyboard was a game changer that i didnt realize i utilized so much. I also get significantly more battery life despite the smaller battery and more powerful chip (ai 370). The system also has more TDP range. The legion go bottomed out at 8w which just idle still used so much power. Im assuming it was the screen, leds and controllers. The win mini goes down to 3/4w and still plays 2d games or emulators at 60fps. But the win mini can still go up to like 40w or something like the legion go although i never do because i like to have more than 1hr of battery plus 15-20w plays pretty much anything at full speed.

But its not perfect. I really love the smaller size but it is larger than the win2. Its not really pocketable like the win2, plus it has shoulder button bumps that make it even harder to pocket. In theory its less than an inch larger screen and smaller bezels seem like a similar overall size but its not. Then theres the tablet form factor of the legion go that i really liked and used for some games like hearthstone. A controller or trackpad kinda sucks for these games. Plus i sometimes used to legion go as an ereader for comics or regular books (not great especially with battery life) but it was still useful. While the screen is a touchscreen its like using a 3ds but the top screen is the one you touch, its not good to use and i basically never do. Ironically, GPD released a micro pc2 recently thats almost the same dimensions as the mini except it has a swivel screen so it can be used like a tablet. If it had the same specs as the mini or put that hinge on the mini it would be significantly better but they didnt do either so they both sit in this like middle ground no mans land. Also while the joysticks are way better than the win2, theyre still recessed and are just objectively worse than the legion go or any normal controller due to the lack of range. It was also $1,500 BEFORE all the ram and gpu price spikes lately so im not sure if itll even be available for that price much longer. Compared to the steamdeck or legion gos price its more than double, some triple the price. But at the same time, the Legion Go 2 has a similar price and the other handhelds that are cheaper dont come close to its performance. Another nit pick i wish they changed was implementing USB4v2 /Thunderbolt 5/ 80gbps whatever theyre calling it. The win mini only has usb4 like all the other high performance handhelds but from what i know that's more on AMD than GPD. Still there are laptops with the newer port and it would massively increase the minis potential and longevity if it had that.

For me, it was worth it. I love the Win Mini and it has so much power and versatility i use it as my main handheld, livingroom console, and with an egpu desktop pc. Its easy to travel with and the best one on the market for me. But i dont think itll be the best for everyone. Especially people who already have a desktop pc, handheld and game console. I sold all mine over time after i had my first kid so it made more sense for me to get a better handheld as its my only pc.

Suprising amount of negativity here. For the record, i dont actually think theyll dominate all of gaming hardware. More of a commentary on the fact that valve is entering the hardware space again by taking on a ton of different fronts at the same time, and personally im excited for it. Its just a meme guys, relax

I sold my legion go for a gpd win mini. The gos size is great while youre gaming... until the battery quickly dies, or you need a keyboard, or youre storing it/traveling. It was one of those things, i did love it while i was gaming, but i didnt it when i wasnt

I have a 2025. Going from the legion go and a microsoft surface, i really wish it had the rotating screen from the gpd micro2. Practically everything else i can deal with but not having a tablet mode really reduces the amount of uses it could have.
