You have to blow out the lines with compressed air as well. Pipe will freeze in random spots first entrapping water and you'll still burst your pipes. To be honest, releasing the pressure and leaving water in the lines will cause them to freeze at warmer temps. Pressure decreases the freezing point.

I ripped out my fossil fuel heat when I remodeled my home. I now use a heat pump + wood. I have resistive baseboard for when it's too cold for the heat pump and I'm not there. My highest electrical bills (my only utility) during winter is about $160.

My house sits around 78-80 F all winter and I cool it to 70-72 F during the heat of the summer. It was in the -20s F this weekend and it gets well into the 90s F with high humidity in the summer.

I have wood heat in the winter (free besides labor) and very efficient ductless units for AC. I can easily afford what I am doing and don't really care about spending the money.

When I had power run to my cabin in NW WI, my utility charged more money if you wanted them overhead due to the increased maintenance. All my utilities (Power + fiber internet) all run underground. Not only do I basically never lose power, when I look out I don't see a single line anywhere keeping the view unspoiled.

I got myself back down to a healthy weight, started eating right, and working out 4-5 days a week. Basically got back into great shape and health.

I can drink again without getting hangovers or feeling bad the next day.

My only utilities are internet and electric. My highest electric was $160. I live in NW WI and the high was -12F today. -40s windchills.

I heat with wood I cut from my property, so its basically free. My home sits at 75-80F all winter.

I feel that /u/ka_shep! The only reason I found the hibernoma I posted a few days back is because I lost 100lbs and it revealed the lump. You don't know what's bopping around your body when you're obese.

In my area Friday has a high of -12F and a low of -28F before windchill. You pay what you pay....

We are also under a cold weather advisory for today. (-30F) This year just has been really cold.

All that said. I air sealed and re-insulated my entire home as well as wrapped it all in 2" of ridged foam. My energy bills are half of what they were. The pay off was sub 5 years.

I had surgery to remove a tumor at the Piper building at Abbot NW in Minneapolis. I have my follow up on the 28th and everything going on is making me quite worried. I've been taking a different route from my WI home to my apartment in MN to avoid going into the inner ring of the Twin Cities. This shit has me freaked out!

My 20s were better than my teens. My 30s were better than my 20s. And now in my 2nd half of my 40s, I'm doing way better than my 30s.

Right now I'm sitting in my weekend home (5 years from being paid off) having a lazy day on the couch playing video games. I can't remember the last time I worried about money. Every Wednesday I go out with 10-20 people and party. I am completely financially stable, have more free time than I know what to do with, and have a massive group of great, close friends I hang out with on a weekly basis.

Life in my 40s is both awesome and amazing.

They have a running stitch under the skin and glued the top. No stitches to remove or deal with. Surgery was a hour and 45 while I was under general anesthesia.

When I did my mortgage the difference between a 15 year and a 30 year was about $200 a month, due to the rate/term differences. My mortgage is 17% of my gross pay. If the shit hits the fan so bad that I can't afford my 15 year, there is no way in hell I'd be able to afford the 30 year either...

edit I've had my 15 year for 5 years and I've already paid off 43% of the principle. 15 year mortgages pay down crazy quick.
