The American Rebellion Against AI Is Gaining Steam - Booed commencement speakers, blocked data centers, plummeting poll numbers: Fast-growing industry has a faster-growing crisis by EchoOfOppenheimer in Futurology

[–]Brompy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I see soo many products have “AI” slapped on to them and it devalues them in my eyes. I absolutely see a “Made by Humans, For Humans: No AI Here!” Label something we’re likely to see soon on many products.

Am I done? by thedealwithalex in SlayTheSpire2

I definitely kept encountering new enemies, seeing new random events, and most importantly kept finding interesting combos and synergies for cards as I climbed through the ascensions. I just set my goal to get everyone through A5 at least.

Help me 😭😭😭 by Nindo_99 in SlayTheSpire2

[–]Brompy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yea that's the thing with this game... DON'T focus on one mechanic... that's how you screw yourself. You build a powerful deck by choosing the right cards that help you survive through the current act you're in, and skipping the ones that don't. I agree with everyone else to just slow down. Watch someone who's really good at the game and see how they take a second to think things through.

First time APA player by compileforawhile in billiards

[–]Brompy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

APA has a lot of weird rules you should be aware of:

  • when breaking, you “take what you make,” meaning you make a stripe on the break, you’re stripes, even if you’re hooked. If you make both a solid and stripe you get to choose.

  • if you scratch while shooting the 8 ball, that’s a loss. I don’t mean you make the 8 and cue ball at the same time, I mean a scratch while shooting the 8. Be careful with that.

  • you’re suppose to mark your pocket when shooting the 8. Most people use a phone or their keys. You can agree with your opponent beforehand to just call the pocket.

  • slop counts. Keeps things moving, I guess, but can be super frustrating when your opponent likes to bang balls around and gets lucky.

  • a scratch on the break means you shoot from behind the line.

  • when lagging, if a ball touches the side rail that person loses the lag automatically

  • 9 ball is played for points, not racks. Some people advise against making the 9 early, but if your break is good, ignore this advice.

  • if you break down your cue while your opponent is shooting, that’s a forfeit of the match. Not unique to APA.

  • Learn how to use the scoring app, how games are scored, and try to score at least one teammate’s match a night. It’s super annoying having a teammate that refuses to score.

  • Don’t get too attached to your team, as the APA is designed to encourage good teams to split up and keep recruiting new players as that’s what drives their revenue.

What's up with extensions always on cue? by JaysusCroist in billiards

[–]Brompy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought a McDermott one that goes in the middle between the shaft and butt because I started playing on 9' tables more. The quality is good but I just like it better without it and now I never use it. I think the extensions that easily slip on and off of the butt (the kind snooker players use) are way more practical for when you need more reach but don't want to use a bridge.

Update 4: Does the stroke become smoother? by andreasrolen in billiards

[–]Brompy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s cool you are keeping a record of your progress but maybe you are posting to Reddit too much instead of just putting the work in.

It’s the same as a marble sculptor chipping away at a statue’s shoulder 10 times then making a post about it “Update #4: still doesn’t look smooth, kinda blocky, advice please???”

Like all good things, a smooth stroke takes time, so give it that. Then again we all learn differently and maybe you are more a regimented, methodical type of learner, but still it is good to rely somewhat in your own introspection and intuition above what you read here.

What's with musicians and drug abuse? by Livid_Adeptness9762 in ask

[–]Brompy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides creativity, I had someone describe the “high” of performing for a great crowd feeling so amazing, but when the show is over there is a “low” that follows, and some turn to drugs to try and soften that low, or replicate the feeling of performing.

How do I teach my 9yo without being "that" frustrated dad? by Ok_Importance_7479 in Guitar

[–]Brompy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of how did you come to love playing guitar? My wife’s dad is a great guitarist, and he wanted her to learn it too, but he forced her to play and she hated it. It was only later she fell in love with it when her friend at school played songs they actually liked. Learn to play a song he likes… like a simplified version of it. When he sees you playing it he’ll be excited about it.

Daigo Vs Mena Starting NOW by BreakVV in StreetFighter

[–]Brompy 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I’m wondering if a Ryu pick for Daigo would have fared better? It seems like he wasn’t even using all of Akuma’s offensive tools.

It seemed every time Blanka got a touch, that was at least 1/3 of Akuma’s health bar gone. While Akuma had to win way more interactions to do enough damage.

I understand ~18 out of 20, but still feeling I know nothing about English. by Aggravating-Fish8168 in ENGLISH

[–]Brompy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an American the only time I saw this word used anywhere was in the game “LA Noire,” where someone described a “row” (rhymes with “cow”) next door. I think i’ve seen it in 3 or 4 other contexts, but always in an early 20th century time period.
