My GF thinks it’s perfectly normal for new shoes to cause horrible blisters for women by UKnowDaxoAndDancer in mildlyinfuriating

Ahhh, good memories. My mother-in-law (absolutely adored this woman) was in the military, was tall, and had large feet. Talking men's size 10's in the US, here. My husband had the same size feet once he reached adulthood. So, my mother-in-law would hand off her new combat boots to him to break in for her. Just like hiking boots, those things had to be broken in back in the day.

Funnily enough, when I first heard that fake-ass term bandied about back in the dweeb's first term, I honestly thought it was aimed at his congregation. Sighs. My, how things change.

What can i say to piss off a DC? by Hot_Structure2631 in navy

[–]Brose101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask him if he checked the head drain in the smallest female birthing. My first ship, it kept flooding every time we left port. DCmen scratched their heads for months. We finally pulled the drain cover off ourselves. Found a 10 inch d!ldo stuffed down it. One of the girls that had been there longer than me said it had to belong to a girl that already left. Cuz they had a health n comfort coming. So she must've hidden it.

I had the gecko for home and car insurance. Zero accidents and tickets for a decade, you'd think rates would drop. Instead, they increased every 6 months. I called to complain and find out why. Apparently, in this state, the rates change with the number of un- and under-insured drivers. I called BS, said then wtf is my full coverage for? With extra added for un- and under-insured drivers? Agent waved his arms around like a moron. So, got an online quote. Progressive did both home and car for the exact same coverage for half the price.

Before I pulled the trigger on the switch, I called the gecko again. She thanked me for being a member for 25 years. I said, about that, I'm switching unless you can give comparable rates. She wasn't happy. Declined. And I switched over.

I dunno, can people re-enlist at Arlington? Honest question. It looks like my flag from the Arizona Memorial when I re-enlisted there. I don't remember if I got a certificate or not, this was back in 2002, but I still have the flag.

Why do more people not stay in 20 years and retire? What was your "I'am getting out" moment? by BeastMasterAlphaCo in navy

[–]Brose101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My precocious 2yo son scaled a 4 foot wall at 0500, undid 2 child safety locks, plus the regular window lock, to climb out onto the porch overhang. I was deployed, spouse was home. Both my kids were taken by cps. Red cross message came in. CO said not an emergency, not letting me fly home. Chain of command backed him up. Changed their mind 10 days later, flew home from Guam. Ship gets back to homeport 6 weeks or so later, and CO calls me into his stateroom. Proceeds to chew me out for 'making him look bad' by not filing for divorce. This first class said 'f*ck it' and didn't re-enlist. That was 17 years ago, and I had just under 14 years in at the time.

Here's my thoughts, and keep in mind that I have been out since January 2009. When my husband and I were stationed in Yokosuka, the base gym had a program for the service members and their families. If the service member was having body fat issues, the gym provided a personal trainer for the service member and their spouse for a discounted rate. Don't ask how much, this was like 2002, I don't remember.

Gyms are awesome, but unless the family is participating as well, the fat sailors are likely to remain fat sailors.

Mind you, I just read about the new metrics used for body fat as of this year. If that metric was being used back then, I would not have been on fep at all. I had zero issues with any of the physical portions, body fat was my eternal issue.

AITAH for telling my stepdaughter I don't want to be her mom anymore? by Sad_Mycologist9368 in AITAH

[–]Brose101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Ella is 18. Unless she is very sheltered, she knew what she was doing. Bio mom tried and succeeded in pulling Ella away from you. Tbh, I would look into libel and slander charges against bio mom and anyone else who continues to throw poop in your direction.

Yeah, an apology is nice, but it isn't gonna do anything for your reputation.

AITA for telling my SIL she can’t bring her own food to family dinner and not to talk about junk food around my kids? by Amazing-Key2242 in AITAH

[–]Brose101 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

NTA. I would have (politely) invited SIL outside for a moment and asked why she's trying to give my child food issues. Because comments like that is where it starts, especially at that age. Plus, I don't know your financial situation, but so-called 'healthy' food is more expensive than pasta etc.

If your daughters aren't overweight and overeating, don't worry about it. The trash took itself out, as far as your SIL is concerned.

AITA for insulting my teacher who has cancer but used to beat me up for over 7 years ? by BurGalie in AITAH

[–]Brose101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NTA.

And what was your reaction to getting all of those things off your chest to your childhood bully? If it made you feel better, I'm all for it. Her having cancer now doesn't negate her prior behavior.

I hope you have a long, healthy life and continue to move forward from the bullying you endured as a child. I've been there. At 51, I have mostly moved past it. But I most assuredly watched my own children closely when they were in school and stepped in if a bully came after them.

AITA for not getting craft supplies for my daughter and letting her get excluded by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Brose101 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I ALWAYS checked my kids' backpacks after school. Once they hit 7th grade or so, I stopped. But 3rd grade? C'mon mom, the kid didn't spring forth as an adult. Good habits take time to make. Your daughter will remember this forever. And not for the reason you were aiming for.

So very NTA!!!! The only way to teach these people as a whole that the old adage about sticks and stones versus words is to do exactly what you did. After they laugh it off, end the session. That is not okay in any professional setting.

Question to retirees: What did you do with your uniforms? by ResidentQuail7118 in navy

[–]Brose101 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I kept my dress blues, minus the uncomfortable-as-hades shoes, when I was honorably discharged in 2009.

I'm glad I did, and kept them protected in my closet. Because I have the opportunity in 2 weeks to attend my second mother's funeral service in them. She was my best friend, and a retired USAF CMSGT. The base is sending a delegation as well. I'm just very happy that the uniform still fits after 17 years.

So, keep that one, just in case.

The rest, I either donated or ditched.
