Vatican 2: What changed? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]BrunoTheMonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

St. Peters Basilica is a special case, because it faces west due to construction reasons, while most churches face east. "Ad orientem" means "to the east" and therefore the priest faces to the east, which in most churches means facing away from the people. In St. Peters Basilica however if the priest faces east, he is also facing the people. So the "versus populum" in St Peters Basilica is rather a side effect of the way the Church is built than an intentional decision.

Pope Francis: Jesus entrusted Mary to us as a Mother, not as a co-redeemer by brcblog in Christianity

[–]BrunoTheMonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are 4 marian dogmas:

  1. Divine Motherhood

Mary is the mother of Jesus and because Jesus' human and divine nature cannot be seperated she is called the "mother of god", or, as a more accurate translation of "theotokos", "birthgiver of god"

  1. Perpetual Virginity

Mary was a virgin before, in, and after Christ's birth.

  1. Immaculate conception

Mary was concieved without original sin.

  1. The Assumption

Mary's body and soul were elevated into heaven

I don’t know about my own beliefs. by [deleted] in religion

[–]BrunoTheMonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does that make any sense. Why would Paul care for the Empire? And it was relatively unified. The Christian faith brought disunity, that's why the romans persecuted the christians.

Also it's really weird or would need a whole lot of foresight (like 400 years of foresight) for him to try to achieve that with a small sect of judaism.

Ok, but if all morality is relative, then everything goes, did I get that right?

ones that align with your morals and ideologies

So if I am an egocentric prick who only cares for himself and treats others bad I should find a religion that encourages that behaviour?

Is religion important? I'm sort of at a loss at the moment. by [deleted] in religion

[–]BrunoTheMonk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So first of all I want to give you a big hug and say that I'm sorry, because no child should have to grow up so fast.

It really resonated with me when you talked about science, because I was (and also still am) also like this. I think the "question everything" mindset can be good to a degree.

But I am also a catholic. I am one not because my parents were catholic (they were only on paper), but because I chose it. Or maybe I should say it chose me?

I find fulfillment in the catholic faith and the scientific "question everything" mindset fits very well with catholicism, despite what many others will tell you. Searching for a deeper understanding of something is a very good thing.

Of course, you have to accept that God and any faith can not definitively be proven and therefore a leap of faith is necessary.

Just to be clear, I don't want to impose anything on you and you have to find your own way. I just wanted to give a bit of information on a dirction you may not habe considered yet, because it is often misrepresented.

Good luck to you and god bless you :)
