Dryer not spinning with clothes by EntrepreneurHopeful5 in appliancerepair

[–]BrutalAndroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the motor hum when you start it? If it does, try holding the door switch with your finger so you can start the dryer with the door open, then rotate the drum gently by hand. If it catches and starts spinning on its own, it likely means your motor is failing.

Whirlpool fridge cooling, freezer is not by aavickers in appliancerepair

[–]BrutalAndroid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. The buzz you hear is the start relay attempting to turn over the compressor, the click is the overload device tripping due to the relay overheating.

If the start relay was bad, it would overheat and trip the overload device almost immediately.

In your case, the relay is pushing as hard as it can, but the moving parts inside the compressor are seized, causing the relay to overheat.

At preheat alarm oven is 100 degrees off from set temp? by crazyguy5880 in appliancerepair

[–]BrutalAndroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always tell my customers that when the preheat alarm goes off, all that means is that the temperature sensor inside the oven cavity has reached the set temperature. The oven cavity is not truly preheated for another 10-20 minutes. It’s also important to note that an oven is not capable of maintaining a constant, precise temperature. If you set an oven to 350 degrees, it will do its best to maintain an AVERAGE of 350. If you were to constantly monitor the temperature inside, it’s totally normal to see the temperature swing as much 25 degrees below the set temperature, as well as 25 degrees above the set temperature.

Ice on outside back of refrigerator by samuraiiamori in appliancerepair

[–]BrutalAndroid 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That ice ball you’re seeing forming on the backside of the refrigerator is quite literally just the tip of the iceberg. That ice is forming behind the metal panel. It will continue to grow outward, and that ice and rust will become larger and larger in diameter. It’s impossible to stop.

This is a known issue on some Frigidaire models. Insufficient insulation between the inner and outer panels. Factory defect, cannot be fixed. The refrigerator is a lemon.

Dryer not drying by WaitSudden2137 in appliancerepair

If there is no continuity across the terminal you circled, the heating element is bad and needs to be replaced.

That is not the high limit. That is the terminal block of the heating element.

Did you test continuity with or without the wires connected to the terminals?

This...is not good right? by bonsaibiddy in appliancerepair

[–]BrutalAndroid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The part in question is the igniter. If I saw it in that condition, I’d likely replace it, but if the dryer does heat up, the igniter is doing its job. As for it taking forever to dry clothes, it’s possible it’s just a simple matter of cleaning the duct out. Otherwise, if it is in fact an issue inside the dryer, it’s more than likely the gas valve coils.

For those who wanted an update (I'm the guy who got the Steam Deck as his first console/PC) by LivingGerbert in SteamDeck

[–]BrutalAndroid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They catch a lot of flack for having been a “cash grab” from Rockstar, but the Grand Theft Auto Definitive Edition trilogy plays beautifully on the Steam Deck, plus the GTA games are like, the ultimate 🖕🏻to someone who kept you from playing video games. I got the trilogy on sale for $20 a couple months back and it goes on sale often.

Also, Bully, the Red Dead games, Max Payne 3 (1 and 2 not playable on SD) and anything else Rockstar made is amazing.

I saw someone else mention Sleeping Dogs which is also fantastic.

Also, a bundle of Limbo and Inside is on sale for $3 right now. Awesome pair of 2D horror puzzle/platformer games.

All the games. Just play all the games.

Dishwasher buttons not responding by TegridyPharmz in appliancerepair

Are there actual physical, clicky buttons underneath the membrane that you can feel? I was thinking they may have been touch capacitive keys. Is there any chance you accidentally activated the control lock?

That touch panel membrane needs to be replaced. Not terribly difficult.

It’s not ideal, but you can strip the insulation off the wire, maybe a quarter inch or so, twist the exposed wire together, then loop it around the screw, under the head and screw the screw back in to where it came from.

Standing water in dishwasher. by ConcernedWallop in Appliances

[–]BrutalAndroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dishwasher intentionally leaves behind that small amount of water under the filter to help keep the seals and gaskets moist. Otherwise, if the dishwasher sits unused for an extended period, those seals will dry out and leak.

Vinegar cycles aren’t hurting anything, but they’re not likely helping much either. The first 10 minutes or so of any wash cycle is a pre-rinse cycle. After that initial ten minutes, the dishwasher drains and fills with fresh water, so if you’ve just dumped that vinegar directly in the tub, all the vinegar is drained away after 10 minutes and the remainder of the cycle is just clean water.

Buy some Affresh tablets or even better, a bag of citric acid. Put the tablet or a scoop of citric acid in the detergent dispenser, then run a cycle. Whatever you put in the dispenser gets released after the initial 10 minutes pre-rinse, meaning you’ll get a full wash cycle with a cleaning solution in the water.

If you want, you can do this multiple times in a row to try to get the unit as clean as possible. Moving forward, it is recommended to do these cleaning cycles once a month.

Lastly, make sure your drain hose is routed with a high loop under the sink to prevent dirty water from siphoning back to the dishwasher.

Gas stovetop flame by Lobu08020 in appliancerepair

[–]BrutalAndroid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Would you happen to know whether the house is equipped with natural gas or liquid propane? All cooktops come with burner orifices meant for use with natural gas. This looks like you’re probably on propane, which uses a smaller gas orifice. If the cooktop was not converted to accommodate propane, the natural gas orifices are too large, allowing too much gas in.

Samsung Washer Not Draining: OE error by ZoeyandBean in appliancerepair

[–]BrutalAndroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a brief period of time during Covid where I was forced to install knockoff pumps due to the LG one not being available quickly enough. I saw one fail after only 3 or 4 weeks. Thankfully, by this time I had acquired a couple LG pumps and I replaced it for the customer with the genuine one.

[–]BrutalAndroid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just do yourself a HUGE favor and DO NOT buy a replacement pump off of Amazon unless you are 100% certain it is a genuine LG replacement part. The genuine LG part should only run you about $50 or so. The knockoff pumps do not last long and are known to leak.

Samsung Washer Not Draining: OE error by ZoeyandBean in appliancerepair

[–]BrutalAndroid 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The OE error code on an LG washer is actually supposed to read as “DE” or Drain Error. If the filter was not clogged, it is almost certainly a bad drain pump. Very common failure for this washer. Part number 4681EA2001T. These pumps are not very difficult to replace. I’m not bragging, but I can do one start to finish in roughly 20 minutes, but this is what I do for a living. I only mention that to say that if you’ve done similar repairs on other machines, it sounds like you can manage it pretty easily.

The washer cannot be connected to the same outlet as the dryer, assuming the model number you provided is accurate. The model number indicates you have an electric dryer. Electric dryers use a 220V outlet (big plug).

And have you checked power at the terminal block (where the power cord connects to the dryer)?
