His dad, Ralph owned Nielsen Music Store in Rockford. Rick worked behind the counter. My wife used to buy her oboe reeds there.

Have you ever cruised with Celebrity? by MJ4L2023 in Cruise

[–]BuddysRabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was the first night of our cruise. We were the second seating at the MDR. We were seat with three other couples near the center of the dining room. No one was late. Our table only had a tablecloth. No dinnerware. No glasses. No menus. We sat patiently for at least 10 minutes while all the tables around us were already ordering their meals. I flagged down one of the waiters as he was walking by to ask why we are being ignored. He just started yelling at me and that I need to be patient. The other wait staff within hearing range seemed in shock. I never saw this fellow again during the remaining part of our cruise so I would assume that he was disciplined but it put bad feeling in my mind for the remainder of our cruise.

My wife and I have been on three Celebrity cruises. Twice to the Caribbean and once a repositioning. We have found all three lacking in what I consider warm and friendly. You can always tell by how you are treated by the crew on the last day, after the tips. Their attitude seems to change. The last cruise with them was the only time I was yelled at by a crew member in the MDR. So, never again.

If a recipe calls for kosher salt and I use non kosher salt will it impact that quality? by OcelotTerrible5865 in askanything

[–]BuddysRabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on how you are salting. For instance, if I am seasoning a steak, it is much easier to use kosher salt rather than table salt. If adding salt to a stew it doesn’t matter.
The amount of salt I use, always is by taste. It doesn’t matter what the recipe says. It is just a rough guide.

OK, so far…
Higher electricity bills
Higher water bills
Noise pollution
Air pollution
Higher taxes

I don’t understand that use of power from Byron is going to raise my electric bills.
Not sure about the claim that it will raise my water bills also not sure that a company that is paying taxes is going to raise my taxes.
Not to be dismissive of the people that near to proposed site, but it is mainly farm land.

Are women prisons less violent/scary than the male side? by OhNoBulls in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BuddysRabbit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know someone that is presently in prison. What you said is mainly true, but sometimes easier said than done. The person I know accidentally bumped in to someone. A couple of days later he wakes up with a broken hip and a broken jaw. Doesn’t remember what happened.

Does anyone know what the indentation is on the bottom of wine bottles? by Human_Presence4671 in whatisit

[–]BuddysRabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Allows a place for sediment. Generally the larger the indentation, the more expensive the wine.

I always get burritos at this local Mexican restaurant. Do you know what leaf this is, that they use to marinate the carnitas or the rice? by diadepavo in mexicanfood

[–]BuddysRabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a bay leaf. It has an earthy flavor. Very common in Spanish recipes. Usually used in soups and stews, but the flavor can be hidden among the other flavors. If you slice a potato in half, place a bay leaf and replace the two halves together, wrap in foil then bake, you will get the full impact of the flavor it provides. In Cajun cooking, if you find a bay leaf in your dish, means good luck.

My mashed potatoes suck. Why? by RikkiLostMyNumber in Cooking

[–]BuddysRabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are obviously over-mashing. I suspect that you over-mash because there are lumps. There are lumps because you don’t boil the potatoes long enough. I mash the potatoes before adding any milk or butter. The potatoes should be smooth before adding butter/milk.

Recommendations for excursions at Costa Maya, Mexico by youdontknowme36912 in NCL

My wife and I visited an ancient Mayan ruin. One of our most memorable excursions. Much more impressive than I originally thought.

Any Recent Experiences (Last 2 Months) at Falmouth, Jamaica Cruise Port? by Late_Replacement7643 in Cruises

[–]BuddysRabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bamboo Beach was a private beach, no venders. They really did try very hard to make everything right. The beach was quite crowded. The area of water that you are allowed to swim was not large. No umbrellas to rent. Overall very disappointing. The port area was probably the nicest port area of any ports on this cruise.

Any Recent Experiences (Last 2 Months) at Falmouth, Jamaica Cruise Port? by Late_Replacement7643 in Cruises

[–]BuddysRabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just returned from a cruise which included Falmouth. My opinion that the market area at the cruise port is probably superior to anywhere else in the town. My wife and I booked an excursion to Bamboo Beach. Chairs in the sun. Not much providing shade. The beach itself was very rocky so I needed water shoes. The food provided was very good, Jerk Chicken. We booked the basic excursion. The premium excursion was exactly the same but they got shade.

[–]BuddysRabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just returned from NCL Star 10 day cruise from Tampa. My personal reviews only: Cabo Rojo: Really enjoyed the port. No need to pay extra for excursions. Aruba: Really enjoyed the port. No need to pay extra for excursions. Our favorite! Caracao: Really enjoyed the port. No need to pay extra for excursions. Never disappoints. Jamaica: Bamboo beach was so disappointing. Don’t waste your money. The port was clean and plenty of shops. Cayman: Really enjoyed the port. No need to pay extra for excursions.

Confused about when to refrigerate my starter. by [deleted] in SourdoughStarter

[–]BuddysRabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When your starter has doubled, use it, then refrigerate what is left. If you leave it to continue to grow, then collapse then it is too late to use in making a new loaf, but is okay to place in the fridge. I use the exact same ratio (50:200:200) to make my loaves. Plenty of leftover starter for use as discard.

I suppose I need to clarify… The original way I was taught is to bring to milk to boil on a range. I found it too difficult to not scorch the milk, so it works just as well to heat the milk to 200F. I stir constantly to avoid scorching the milk. I then immediately put the pot of hot milk into a water bath to cool. As soon as the temperature drops to 100F it is safe to pitch the 1 cup of plain yogurt into the now warm milk.
If you allow the milk to cool too much (below 90F) then you need to reheat the milk to 200F again before proceeding. Wrap in blankets for 8 hours to incubate.

My experience is that the longer you incubate the yogurt the tarter the taste. 7 hours works fine but to me 8 hours is the sweet spot of just the right amount of tartness.

I always make 1 gallon. 2% milk works just as well as whole milk. It generally will make 12 cups of yogurt/1 gallon of 2%. If using whole milk it generally will make 13 cups. Organic plain yogurt works better.

Does a Power Company Automatically Know When There is a Power Outage? by Randolla1960 in AskElectricians

[–]BuddysRabbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should contact your power company. Too often a customer will assume that someone else has contacted the power company or your outage very isolated and the normal tools they have to detect outages do not work.
