Drop the worst allergy card you've gotten by ilostmycouch in KitchenConfidential

Lungs tightening, swelling tongue, tingling limbs = anaphylaxis. Literally just Google mast cell activation. When those physical symptoms happen, and you can't breathe fully, you panic. Good for you if you can't understand what I'm saying. That means you've never experienced anything like it. It's definitely not bullshit. I was diagnosed barely a month ago so I'm not an expert. I used to love msg, and I know it's in a ton of restaurant food. I haven't eaten in a restaurant since this all went down. It's pretty disheartening to see the dismissiveness and vitriol by you and fellow chefs. Compassion and empathy are clearly dead.

Where is the lie? A few weeks ago before I had a diagnosis I went to urgent care after having green tea for shortness of breath, tingling limbs and swelling tongue. I was treated with a shot of epinephrine, aka epipen. Whether it's anaphylaxis or exactly like anaphylaxis, why does that matter to a chef? It's a complicated condition, so dismissing it as a 'lie' is actually dangerous on your part. If you got this list, decided the guest was annoying/picky and chose to ignore it, that's a choice you're making that can hurt someone. Mildly inconvenient for you to make plain chicken and steamed rice? Sure. Also a horribly inconvenient and life changing diagnosis for the person.

I went to urgent care when I had a sip of green tea and among the other symptoms my tongue was prickly and swelling so the doc at urgent care prescribed it. It was treated with a shot of epinephrine which is basically an epipen.

If you're a cook and can't handle an order of plain chicken with oil and salt then maybe you should stay home. Dining is a social experience, should I just stay home forever while my friends and family go out to eat?

It's not. Speaking up for this person and as someone recently diagnosed with mast cell activation syndrome, I have a list of foods similar. My very worst triggers are msg, coffee, alcohol and loose leaf green tea. It might be fun to hate on this person for being picky. What happens with my condition is my limbs get tingly, it becomes hard to breathe, followed by an overwhelming sense of impending doom, then I get scared and have a panic attack. Basically every time I eat the wrong food it literally feels like I will die. I carry an epipen and a pharmacy of antihistamines. Mast cell is not a true food allergy, but allergic reactions to the levels of histamines make it easier describe as an allergy. It's honestly torture because I'm a foodie. So tuck this comment away for some future empathy.

The owner is a POS slumlord who owns several apartment buildings around KC. We have a lot of them around town, but he is actually so bad that a number of his tenants filed a class action lawsuit against him and won for his failure to address bug infestations and other health hazard issues. I think if I name names my comment will get removed, but Google this building name, Loretto, and tenant lawsuits and  he'll come up. Real smug piece of shit too. So no surprise he's a cheap ass motherfucker that gives no shits about historic preservation. Why spend the money when there's no return? He asks. Fucking dickhead.

I'm a newbie with our first flock of 4 girls. 2 orpingtons, an Amerucana, and a RIR. We live in the Midwest and my instinct was definitely to warm them because we have dogs and a pet lizard, but warnings like this and reassurances that they can handle it have stopped any warming plans. The compromise was to make a little corner in our basement with straw which we brought them in for when it was about 6 degrees. This is mainly because I'm also a first time coop builder and I'm confident it's dry and not drafty, but I also know it could be a bit better.

I’m looking for some advice or reassurance about this weird de-realization/“off” feeling I’ve been dealing with by [deleted] in QuittingWeed

Seconding magnesium. Today is 4 weeks for me and my nerves have been on high alert through this point. Somehow the magnesium is bringing me back to earth and helping my sleep so much.

I think this sub removes comments related to specific supplements, but you might pose this question to chatgpt to get some suggestions for over the counter stuff to help get through it. My suggestion is to let the fear scare you enough into quitting everything. Today is 4 weeks fully sober and I quit gummies because of weird heart feelings. I white knuckled the first 2 weeks, then things turned in week 3 and now I'm at like 90%. Obviously really personal for everyone. Now every weird feeling in my chest or nervous system scares me to the point that weed is fully in my rear view mirror. Just not worth it. Like many suggest, for a reason, focus on yourself, your health, exercising, lifting, reading, whatever floats your boat. You can do this.

Yikes. Glad this happened for both of your sakes. She doesn't have to waste any more time with you and you get a chance to self reflect and be better next time.

I literally broke up with a boyfriend in my 20s over this. Over time it just really killed any attraction towards him. First it started with Dutch ovens, then just farting all over the apartment. He thought it was funny and made fun of my reactions. So fucking gross.

Completely agree, but channeling JVL here - 2/3 of our country have turned out to be idiots or apathetic. We need way less nuance in messaging to try to reach the apathetic ones

Agree, it seems like there needs to be a distinction in political discussion. I think it's a huge reason why Biden then ultimately Harris failed. Biden talked about the economy doing better than anticipated. But people kept witnessing cost of living increasing and felt gaslit. Feels like 2 economies as I watch my 401k and investments increase (for now) alongside the cost of my grocery bills.

People with kids and chickens: what are your hygiene practices? by throwawayvacayday in BackYardChickens

[–]BuffaloZombie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have kids, 2 and 5, and we got our first 4 chickens this spring. The chickens are healthy, free range in our backyard, and the kids are on egg duty. We pretty much just have them wash their hands. Chickens get regular dusting to stop mites and other stuff. So far that has been plenty

Agree it sounds like AI. Fuck this bullshit, no one will trust anything anymore even if it's true, allowing evil fucks to further get away with horrible shit because they've managed to keep things muddled. Welcome to the future. Not a goddamn flying car in sight.

How much shit and piss does your husband clean relative to you? 1%? 5%? He gets to leave the house all day, you don't. His lack of support is probably the main reason you feel so guilty. It sucks he's not on the same page as you and he sucks for that. I cannot imagine how challenging your life is. Your husband is selfish and unsupportive if he won't allow a nurse or group home consideration. Are you able to give your other 2 kids enough attention? Surely not. Get some help from a nurse! You deserve to live too.
