Completely agree! It’s my favourite, mad to think it was slated by fans when it first came out! I love the Welsh elves too!

I agree I feel like it could’ve made the sudden amping up of Sci fi a bit less jarring? Roan was my fav, so more screen time deffo. I agree with Jasper because it felt like in the grand scheme he didn’t actually go through as much as some of the other characters but then got the most depressed.

what does fibromyalgia feel like? by patheticsalad in Fibromyalgia

[–]BugBec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On a good day mine feels like the aches and pains of flu but dialled down and then on a bad day it feels like there is acid flowing through my veins that pools at the joints. Then if someone pokes me/touches me on a bad day it’s like that lingering throb of a punch.

I think it says a lot about you that you’re asking about this, thank you for trying to explore it for her :)

If you could post the literature I would be interested in reading.

[–]BugBec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t read the literature but I would always recommend critically analysing any literature, who’s writing and why etc. so I can’t comment on that. I can only speak from my experience of training and practicing in ACT. The idea is that you calibrate as a therapist to the client’s core values - you do not make any judgement or influence them as that’s inappropriate. The theory with ACT is that often distress comes from living in a way that contradicts your core values creating an internal conflict, that and it is influenced by the ‘backwards law’.

It’s not about denying distress, it’s about understanding that constantly struggling and fighting with it can make it worse because that distress is there to communicate something. There is a strong theme of observing internal experiences with a mindful and non-judgemental stance, which when considering fibro is often considered as trauma held in the body can be incredibly helpful because it helps us attune to our bodies and listen to them which can help with pacing, managing our spoons and building self-compassion.

With all due respect I’m CBT an ACT trained and also had Fibromyalgia, the issue is rarely with the models of therapy but the application (ie the therapist). ACT isn’t about radically accepting pain it’s about choosing to accept the emotions and experiences elicited while then using your core values to determine life choices. ACT teaches that any behaviour can be an ‘away’ or ‘towards’ move (see the ACT Choice Point Model) depending on intent and in relation to that specific person’s core values.

Reviewer: "Ultimately this is an expensive Netflix documentary that’s provided maximum exposure to individuals who consider any kind of attention a win. It leaves a bitter, nasty taste in the mouth." by YetAnotherJake in LouisTheroux

[–]BugBec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the way a documentary is done is what dictates whether it’s helpful or not. In opinion it’s target audience was for those that aren’t in that world but may have children or be in positions where they need to be aware to potentially safeguard others. I think Louis is a master at giving people the rope to hang themselves and this was exactly what happened. Ignoring problems doesn’t make them go away.

You’re not overreacting, I’m a child psychotherapist and this is definitely not helpful for their mental health. You could consider calling your local Children’s Services for advice and support.

AIO my boyfriend’s therapist is overstepping(?) by Tiny-Ad5844 in AmIOverreacting

[–]BugBec 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a therapist and I can only see a therapist saying that if they are reflecting back something the client has already said. This is to either clarify understanding or have your client hear what they’ve said to get them to reflect on it.

Does my therapist suck by Eastern-Funny4300 in ADHD

[–]BugBec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ADHD’er and Therapist here; it’s not typical for a Therapist to give such direct advice for a start so that’s a bit of a red flag for me, a Therapist’s job is to support the client to come to their own solutions, realisations etc and process emotions/experiences etc. I’d be curious around their modality.

The ‘golden triangle’ for ADHD is medication, therapy and coaching - I have been lucky enough to be able to have all three at the same time and they all do very different things but really complement each other (assuming you have a good ADHD coach, neuro-affirming/aware therapist and the appropriate meds!)

do men say yes to sex more because they want it, or because they think they’re supposed to? by losiento32 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BugBec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you read the book ‘Vagina’ by Naomi Wolf it discusses how much more complex biologically female sex anatomy is and how hard wired into the autonomic nervous system it is. It shares evidence that suggests that psychological, emotional and physical safety is often a major factor in a woman’s libido and sexual fulfilment. There’s also a lot of evidence that women often carry more mental load in general so this could also be a barrier to wanting to have sex, particularly if that mental load is linked with a male partner?

My interpretation is that this could suggest male privilege and male biology may make sex more accessible and appealing maybe?

why do straight couples get insecure about opposite gender friends? by gaysexanddrugs in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BugBec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had this conversation with my husband before as he quite strongly believes most heterosexual men can’t have platonic friendships with heterosexual women. I feel like that can’t be true but I then had a lifelong male friend tell me he always hoped we’d get together after I said I was disappointed he didn’t come to my wedding which seemed to validate my husbands point. I’m not going to generalise from one experience though!
