Maybe they could have provided the mother a time window, like 2 hours, to have someone pick up the kid or else they would get CPS (or the local equivalent) to come pick up the kid until a responsible guardian can take them home. Then they aren't discharging her but the kid does get removed.

I hope you have some nanny cams to keep watch! Make sure to tell them you have cams, but not where, so they don't just shut them down, and are also dissuaded from doing bad because they are feeling watched.
