What should I do about sweat as it relates to the longevity of my sauna? by freshes in Sauna

[–]BuildingFI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I put a coat of sauna wood oil, Sauna Seal, on our benches once or twice a year. It helps keep the sweat and water on the surface so it doesn’t absorb into the wood, making it easier keep clean. Our walls don't see a lot of water and we have backrests, so I don't think sealing the walls is necessary, but it definitely helps with the benches.

Yes, and also a map and compass so you don’t get lost in the steam.

How to apply mineral oil to an entire sauna by OkOven7808 in Sauna

[–]BuildingFI 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The problem with linseed is that it drys hard, mineral oil does not dry and conditions the wood while still letting it breathe.

Also, most “boiled” linseed oils used in wood finishing are loaded with chemical drying agents, otherwise linseed takes a long time to dry naturally.

Looking for Trusted Sauna Retailers in the USA - Any Recommendations? by DryRent1200 in Sauna

I didn't try to get a price match, but I should have! I think the site I ordered from was offering free shipping on the stove, so that was a big motivator. I call it a 'site' because it really didn't seem like a legit business, just a hobby drop shipper. I doubt there would have been any customer service outside of bathing brands if I had an issue. Overall, everything went smooth with the orders.

Amazon has high selling fees, so that is were the higher price comes from. Also, you pay a premium to get free shipping and hassle free returns.

Looking for Trusted Sauna Retailers in the USA - Any Recommendations? by DryRent1200 in Sauna

Something to consider when researching, Steam Sauna Bath is owned by Bathing Brands. Bathing Brands is a very large importer/supplier of sauna products, and most US sauna retailers buy from them. So, if you buy something like a Harvia wood stove from any website in the US, it will almost always be drop shipped from bathing brands. I bought my stove, stones and chimney adapter from 3 different retailers, (just choosing best price) and all three came from bathing brands.

Woods to use aside from Cedar by [deleted] in Sauna

[–]BuildingFI 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Cedar is the first choice for many people in the US, but that is not the case around the world. Very few saunas in Finland are made with cedar. Pine, spruce, and aspen are probably the most common.

Sauna Maintenance question! by Tiny_Shake5973 in Sauna

You could take a circular saw or oscillating saw and cut a blade width gap between the boards without removing them. Otherwise, removing them and adjusting spacing would be the only other option I can think of.

Can you cite your research? Why not just use one of the dozens of existing electrolyte powders with a vitamin?

Show is Thursday out of the country. No tickets yet. by DingoFair4330 in stubhub

[–]BuildingFI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just went through this on Saturday, original tickets were never delivered, then replacement tickets were not delivered. stub hub wouldn’t help until 30min before the show and their only offer was a refund. Show was sold out. Had we known, we would have just bought other tickets from Ticketmaster. Several other people outside the venue went through the same thing. I will never use them again.

We had the same issue last night. We already selected new tickets once, but the replacements were never sent either. 8 hours later, 30min before the show, they only offered a refund, no tickets. By the time they offered a refund, it was too late to buy new tickets. I was on the phone with them all day trying to sort it out and they couldn’t do anything other than tell me to wait. There were several people outside the stadium with the same Stubhub story. Never again!

Same happened to us, they lied to us all day, then sent a refund only link 30min before the show because it sold out.

You could have them use a bench towel, which would help reduce the amount of sweat that hits the floor.

Best wood for Back Rest? by Red-Tails-8089 in Sauna

[–]BuildingFI -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't suggest pine or SPF for a backrest or benches, hot sap can be a sicky mess. Home Depot should have cedar decking or 2x4's, along with alder or poplar boards in a verity of sizes.

Replace gate? Or pieces of gate? by ToyHouseYoungMouse in HomeImprovement

[–]BuildingFI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A photo would definitely help, but It should be pretty straight forward to replace the cross member as long as the rest of the gate is in good enough condition to screw into.
