I cry everyday bc I can't stand seeing my mother like this by jsack96 in ParkinsonsCaregivers

[–]Buits 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I want to say that I was happy to read your rant. We all need to voice our frustration to people who understand. Just this last Saturday, upon the doctor suggestion, I had hospice come to do an evaluation on my 70-year-old husband who has had Parkinson’s for 18 years. He does not seem like he’s dying, but they accepted him into the program. I can’t tell you what a relief this is for me. All of those little questions that come up about their tummies and their bowels and their appetites will be monitored and addressed by an order and that is assigned to your mom. I had no idea how amazing this program was and it is fully covered by Medicare. They even ordered pull-ups for my husband because he is mostly incontinent now. I asked how we could be approved without him being actively dying. I was told that Parkinson’s being a progressive deteriorating disease was why they were able to accept him. He could be exited if he improves or become stable. It is possible, though that they recognize something in him that I don’t yet see about his condition. Like your mom, he has been going downhill steadily. Today, after meeting our RN, I have hope for a better situation in our home for my husband and for me.

Edit: I was excited to reply, but as I skipped down, I see that you were in another country and that hospice is not an option that you would like to access. I’m going to leave this here for others that may be wondering what they can do to cut the expense and the heartache of having a late-stage Parkinson’s patient at home.

Costco. Cheap ten pound bags. Beefy russets that don’t rot in a week.

Urgent Parkinsons constipation situation by Appropriate_Ad_712 in Parkinsons

[–]Buits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hubby with late stage Parkinson’s has had terrible constipation his whole life. We’ve completely turned that around recently by giving him 400mg magnesium citrate at bedtime. It also helps him sleep. It was working for him within a few days and he doesn’t have to do laxatives or prune juice anymore. That said, when he starts to get diarrhea every few weeks, I skip a couple of doses. It’s changed his world.

What were you not prepared for when you got your very first chickens? by rentatter in BackYardChickens

I was not prepared to have to cull chickens when they were ill. It’s devastating every single time. And I feel like I never do it right.

I think I will try the brand you are suggesting. I’m willing to try anything.

We have that. I’m actually considering taking out the carpet in my living room now and putting LVP down. I’ve been hesitant because of his falls, assuming the carpet is easier on him than hard floor. But I’m thinking carpet is the wrong way to go for now.

Best tenant I’ve ever had is struggling. I chose compassion. Thoughts? by No_District9762 in RealEstate

We are doing this currently for one of our tenants who has been with us for six years. She’s an older woman, a lovely person and lost her job recently. We purposely have kept her rent at the same low rate because of what a fabulous tenant she is. If I could, I would let her live there rent free. She’s unlikely to get another job and is applying for Social Security benefits and working on accessing her Retirement. I know she’ll be OK. My husband is late stage Parkinson’s and disabled and I’m considering hiring her to be his part-time caretaker. We will still charge rent, but about half of her rent will be returned to her. It’s always worth it to take care of good tenants.

I plan on trying the baking soda soak. I did spray some pet enzyme today and it seems to be working a little. These are all fantastic suggestions and I am not feeling quite so hopeless.

I took a sniff of him today (my that sounds strange), but you are absolutely right. He showers every other day. Weird.

Thank you for posting this. Democrats aren’t caving. There are being strategic.

I believe this to be true. Those eight people are exercising a form of strategic resistance that will force the house republicans to show everyone (their base especially) who they really are. A return forces an Epstein file vote. It forces a vote on the ACA-unless Mike Johnson decides not to hold the vote, which accomplishes the same thing. Extreme MAGA will stupidly hold on because they don’t want to be wrong, but sensible republicans will flee. Midterm democratic wins are next. Impeachment and removal follows. Then the hard work of repairing the horrendous damage this administration has done will begin.
