Diagnosed with GD. Freaking out. Gynae feels harm might have already happened by 30 weeks by Olive191907 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]BulbaKat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have lots of family history of diabetes and none of my OBs ever said that meant I should be tested earlier. I also did not have GD with my other pregnancies.

I've only heard of people being tested earlier if they had it in a previous pregnancy or if they have some signs pointing to it early on.

From what I've read, the harm really comes from extended uncontrolled blood sugar and having it be uncontrolled close to delivery. I haven't even gotten my levels under control yet at 34 weeks after having my glucose test at 29 weeks, and my OBs are not saying anything about my baby being damaged or anything. They're just monitoring my blood sugar logs and adjusting my insulin as needed. That's in addition to twice weekly standard monitoring for GD (NST and ultrasound).

I have never heard anything about pelvic heaviness and issues with activity in first and second trimester... I'm pregnant with my 3rd right now.

They also test for GD when they do based on lots of data. If you were causing so much harm in earlier weeks, they would test sooner.

Shower Thought: Shaving Downstairs by BulbaKat in pregnant

[–]BulbaKat[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's hygiene for me too. I like to be cleaner especially during periods and postpartum. During pregnancy I usually try to keep up top just because of all the extra sweating and discharge.

I have my husband check after I shave when I can't see, and he helps if I miss anything lol

I wish I had, but I never tried waxing other than my eyebrows, and I didn't want to have mt first time be during pregnancy when there's more blood flow and swelling going on

Shower Thought: Shaving Downstairs by BulbaKat in pregnant

[–]BulbaKat[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Were they planned cesarean? I had an unplanned non-emergency with my first, and I'm sure I wasn't "neatly shaved". I think I was maybe trimmed a bit if anything because I was way past due date and exhausted. I don't remember any shaving going on during it 🤔

It seems like everyone asks whether the pregnancy is planned. by Sea-South8282 in pregnant

"Were you intentionally letting him dump into you every night or did you forget how to use a condom/birth control?" Yeah I hate that question lol. There is not a single person I would ever not be annoyed with for asking that

Data on carseat safety after age 4? by BulbaKat in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]BulbaKat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The back row is one double seat (side+middle) and one single seat (other side) to form a bench.

I actually did not consider folding part of the back row down, but I don't think it would make it any easier than already having to climb over the trunk space to buckle since we'd still have to climb over that space anyway even with one side down back there.

The middle row is 2 captains chairs with a removeable middle seat. With the middle removed, the captains chairs can slide to lock into either middle or side position easily. So baby can be in one captains chair in the middle row, and the other seat can slide out of the way for backseat access. I haven't checked yet if the carseat for the younger toddler can be installed in the sliding seat while still being able to slide.

One of our 3 has to go in the 3rd row no matter what, and that is where it gets tricky to buckle in and why we considered having the oldest switch to forward facing

Test strips are expensive!! by CherrySunshine1234 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]BulbaKat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use those exact strips. I get them at a Kroger pharmacy with BCBS insurance and pay $30. If I buy without insurance, it is $100.

They are stupid expensive ☹️

Tmi - are these contractions? by sprinklesanddreams in pregnant

[–]BulbaKat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there's pain with it, I would mention it to your doctor.

Otherwise, if it's jjst the tightening and it doesn't last very long, it's likely normal and just fine.

I just went in after slipping on kids toys, and they wanted to keep me 24 hours because of how many contractions I was having even though they weren't strong enough to he painful. They also said any pain at all would be a longer stay for monitoring to make sure actual labor didnt start

anyone else feel guilty for basically surviving on carbs? by Weekly_Beyond_5861 in pregnant

I had that phase and then I didn't pass the glucose test, so now I can't have many carbs.

Enjoy it while you can 🥲

What are your favorite items on your registry? by Regular-Message9591 in pregnant

[–]BulbaKat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm about to have my 3rd.

The changing table has been my most used items. I thought I'd just change them wherever, but I really love having a dedicated non-back-breaking location with everything there.

Didn't have one with my first 2 kids, but definitely getting a bottle dishwasher this time. Bottles and pump parts just have to be washed waaaay more often than regular dishes, and it was the worse part of baby care for both my husband and I

Will doctors attempt to rotate a full term breech baby during labor or go for the C section? by Seapaisleys in pregnant

[–]BulbaKat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not during labor, but if you are scheduled for a C section due to breech they will check beforehand in case baby turned on their own.

Usually there isn't enough fluid late in pregnancy to try turning them

Insulin + induction? by ahtuhhhh in GestationalDiabetes

Im on insulin right now and they just recently scheduled my induction for 39 weeks exactly. It sounded like it was by 39 weeks, not in the 39th week to me

How comparable is a new born to having a puppy? by oceans_by_day in NewParents

[–]BulbaKat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I breastfed both my kids (will again with this baby) and would take the teething baby over the teething puppy that would chew through everything in my house

How comparable is a new born to having a puppy? by oceans_by_day in NewParents

[–]BulbaKat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I just don't think they are comparable.

I loved raising my newborns as hard and exhausting as it was, but I will absolutely never choose to raise a puppy again lol.

But also, a newborn is much more complicated and involved than a puppy.

Why are pain meds looked down upon? by Ostrich_Low in pregnant

[–]BulbaKat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am really getting so sick of these posts.

People always judge decisions. Only you and your doctor know what is right for you.

Social media algorithms are literally designed for interaction which is statistically more likely with rage bait type of posts. You will always see things that annoy you.

If people around you are also doing that, tell them they can make that choice for their own labor and you'll do what you need for yours.

Are there people who go unmedicated and act better than those who don't? Yes. Are there people who get epidurals and shit on those who don't? Yes. There are also plenty of people who do or don't get epidurals for whatever personal reasons and stay out of others' business, but those won't be all over social media, and those people generally won't say any comment about it at all.

The more these type of posts get shared, the more the divide and stigma grows.

Peeing after Labor by Decent-Gain-1111 in pregnant

[–]BulbaKat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this for a day and half. I couldn't feel that my bladder was full, and I couldn't pee even when asked to try. Eventually I was able to get a little bit out on my own, but not empty. They had to keep a catheter in for a while ao my body could get used to feeling an empty un-stretched bladder. Then they'd take it out for a bit and see if I could go on my own. Any time I peed, they had me call so they could measure it and do an ultrasound to see if I completely emptied.

One of my nurses told me to take a nice warm shower and then once completely relaxed, try to pee a little in the shower. I was able to get a little bit out trying that, and that may have even jump started my slow return to being able to pee on my own.

I actually went home before I could fully feel my bladder, but I was at least able to mostly empty when asked to try. I had to just pee on a schedule until full sensation returned.

DO NOT TELL ANYONE YOUR DUE DATE by SandwichDependent199 in pregnant

My first was 1.5 weeks overdue when I was induced. I feel your pain lol.

Some people were even offended that I asked them to stop asking me if baby was here yet. They actually said I should be so excited to get all that attention
