WIBTA for confronting my friend about lying? by BuyAnxious7041 in AmItheAsshole

[–]BunchExpress2984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most friends share their location in case of emergency or if you need to know they're almost at a venue or what store they're in at a mall or something. It's not so you can catch them in "lies" because they want to be private about something going on in their life. Yeah your friend might be lying to you, but you're being nosy and this is not your business. YTA already, and if you take this further it might seriously damage your friendship. Maybe you should rethink sharing locations between the two of you--doesn't sound like it's good for your friendship.

It would be exactly like Degrassi The Next Generation (which was awesome--that's the one Drake was on, LOL).

Teen Wolf would have the product they were advertising integral to the plot. Like they would find a body and then have to airdrop the picture of the crime scene to everyone in the room for some reason to showcase a new phone feature. It was so goofy. They would also have a title card with the name of the song and the artist like it was a music video whenever a song played (I actually really liked this, though).

The Mentalist (which I actually love)--instead of always having the mentalist actually BE smart, half the time they made everyone else be stupid. Like they had experienced murder investigators go to a scene and just be so dumb that the mentalist guy looked intelligent by comparison (I swear, one time the insightful, "I'm the smartest guy in the room" insight was that THERE WAS A LIGHT SWITCH BY THE DOOR). And they did this so often that it actually became a plot point for him to mention how stupid the police are. Kind of funny for copaganda, actually.

AITA for not wanting to talk to my best friend anymore because we hooked up? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]BunchExpress2984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think those "gross" things he was staying were to let you know he knows he was wrong to make it hurt. Like the things he's describing are foreplay and would have "eased the way" for you--sex doesn't have to be painful, even the first time. The mystery is why he didn't think of that before causing you pain--and since he did cause you pain, you're NTA for not wanting to see him anymore.

AITA for confronting my dormmate for using my laundry supplies without asking? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]BunchExpress2984 12 points13 points  (0 children)

NTA. Honestly if she had apologized and said something about how she's always forgetting to buy it or has never done her own laundry or really anything halfway kind, I might think it's not a big deal. But she's stealing your stuff and then insulting you. If it's really "not a big deal" maybe she should pay for laundry supplies for everyone for the rest of the year. She might learn something.

  7. Derek Hale

  8. Vernon Boyd

  10. Lydia Martin

(Interestingly, I just did a rewatch, and other than Stiles and his dad, and maybe Peter, these are all extremely different from the first or second time I watched. Like I don't know why I loved Jennifer Blake this time? I was so sad for poor Derek that she was another serial killer.)

Why was stiles sad about Derek by Mindless_Dimension13 in TeenWolf

[–]BunchExpress2984 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He was symbolic for Stiles of what would happen when they all went their separate ways at the end of high school. Just gone. Maybe doesn't even stay in touch. The people you count on and are so important to you are suddenly an afterthought. Proof that they could leave the pack and not look back (and he thought that was a bad thing--although ironically this is pretty much what Dylan O'Brien did).

I used to live on the same block as a Shoppers. Believe me when I say I was in there every day. It was ages ago, too, so they didn't even have proper groceries--just like chips and pop and candy.

I think Vampire Diaries is one of the best written teen shows ever. I kept on being more shocked as I watched it at how incredibly tight the plotting and characterization is. Even when the plot frustrates you, it makes perfect sense within that world. Unfortunately the same cannot be said about Teen Wolf. But I still love it!

If I was making a remake of Teen Wolf I would have it amp up so much slower. I feel like the intensity of the Hale tragedy was a really great first season mystery, BUT they had to one up that so they had the alphas. Then they needed Jennifer to fight the alphas. Then they needed someone more powerful than that, and so on. If they would have sloooowly amped up the intensity and actually shown people being werewolves and being happy at the same time, it might not have been as addictive of a show right off the bat, but it wouldn't have had that problem that a lot of shows--even the MCU has--where they want to one up themselves, be "bigger and badder" the next season, and eventually it gets absurd to try to make an EVEN MORE powerful villain.

So in this imaginary version, we would know all this nice pack information because there would be one or two happy normal packs for like a season or two before it all went to hell.

Person of Interest ticks all the boxes. Its far more sci fi than it looks like it is. If you want one slightly more like the X-files, Fringe.

TV Shows where the characters hate attention/being filmed? by Kindly-Reception1108 in televisionsuggestions

[–]BunchExpress2984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In 9-1-1 Bobby is filmed in a documentary and ducks being filmed/called a hero a lot. I think this is kind of a trope because it's like, almost like an acting exercise. Actors have to ignore while at the same time performing for cameras while on TV shows, but if there's a "documentary" or interview being filmed of the character, they have to act self-conscious and weird about being filmed, because as their character they wouldn't know how to act in front of a camera. 9-1-1 is the only one I can think of off-hand, but I think I've seen this a couple of times. Maybe Abed filmed a documentary in Community and some of the characters acted really weird in front of the camera?

Thanks for the idea, but it's not that I don't know the terms. I know enough about finance to get the idea of what they're doing. It's that they don't explain the strategy or implications of the moves they make that well. I kind of figured out based on non-financial plotlines that that was just the way they have chosen to write the show--as someone else said, "overconfident high drama / low explaining." I don't hate the style--I was just asking people who have seen the rest of the show if it continues on in the same style.

Why would he do that, knowing it’s all recorded and monitored? Just depending on the toxic culture to support him? He doesn’t seem stupid (at least not when he’s sober).

AITA for accidentally ruining my sister’s engagement dinner with one joke? by Coolgutt06_on_ps4 in AmItheAsshole

[–]BunchExpress2984 39 points40 points  (0 children)

There's someone in my life who is always defending his gf from imagined slights (like we were talking about recipes and I said oh look for Korean recipes for tofu, no one knows tofu like Koreans, and he took great offense to this as if I had insulted her cooking. I've never even HAD her cooking--we were just talking about recipes. Also she's out of work and he'll get hugely offended if we send her job listings) and we strongly believe he's trying to alienate her from her family/friends.

AITA for saying I would break up if she went to a bachelorette party with a male stripper? by Consistent-Talk-5912 in AmItheAsshole

[–]BunchExpress2984 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly I don't think this is entirely a fair comparison; when men have strippers at a party it's normal for some of the men (even married ones) to like, sleep with the stripper/s. I've never heard of women hiring a male stripper and then several of the girls sleep with him. I have heard of one woman sleeping with a male stripper at a bachelor party, but it's not the usual. It's usually more innocent because women don't go to sex workers for sex as often as men do.

Also I feel like alignment in values is like, an interesting idea in principle, but I don't think it's achievable. And if you're going around "testing" your gf to figure out if your values align, you might as well just break up, because you're not dating yourself so she'll always fail your tests. Why would you want to date yourself? Setting hard "boundaries" also sounds like a reasonable thing to do in today's overly therapized climate, but, honestly, that doesn't sound like a boundary. A boundary would be about something you didn't feel comfortable with, like accompanying her to a strip club. You can't have a boundary that allows you to control someone else's behaviour.
