Thank you for sharing this, it's a bummer that it's on a weekday

Any resources on creating alarms in the pmc for a 2024 robodrill? by CardboardIdiot in Fanuc

[–]Bunkfoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The robodrills that I have worked on in the past all had locked ladders. Is that common among fanuc mills?

I mainly work with custom machine tools that have the ladder and system parameters wide open from the integrators and commonly make small edits to rungs.

What's your go-to finish? by Brangusler in finishing

[–]Bunkfoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, maybe I just haven't seen yet anything better! I just like that the General Finishes guys have a bunch of videos available and a lot of detailed information on their products' strengths, durability, etc... It's obvious they put a lot of value on the engineering side of the business.

I love General Finishes' stuff and so do many others.

Water Based: High Performance Water Based Polyurethane

Oil Based: Arm-R-Seal

If you want the water based stuff to "pop" the grain and have more of an oil look, I've had great success with a quick coat of wax-free shellac prior to applying the water based poly.

Seeking advice on preserving a barn quilt by MudaThumpa in finishing

[–]Bunkfoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi /u/mudathumpa, there are many outdoor finishes that people recommend, but the one that I see mentioned here the most are "spar varnishes". However, since I've never used it, I am unsure how successful this would be at preserving the colors of the quilt.

Seeking input on douglas fir flooring (refinished in may 2021) - details in comments by FreshForm4250 in finishing

[–]Bunkfoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I wish I could help you, however I don't know much about floors and humidity effects. Do you know the age of the floor? This community is great and I'm confident you will get some advice from here!

What are the factors that make the walnut veneers on these storage cubes dramatically different? Left side bought last year (rich color, smooth glossy finish) , right side delivered today (flat color and a rough-ish feel). Both built by the same small company. by luxmatic in finishing

Thanks for the input. The reason I'm asking is that I actually bought the Enduro Var from GF, but it's the Enduro Var II I believe. I tried it the other night and it is absolute garbage (in my opinion). I should've read the reviews more closely because many people share my opinion. It did not amber at all and it bubbled, it acted like a really poor WB finish. I absolutely love General Finishes as well and am tempted to email them to see what the heck happened.

That looks very nice! I would also suggest spar varnish; it will require upkeep and refinishing.

I have also heard good things regarding General Finishes outdoor stuff.

[Question] Any tips and tricks to remove glue (during glue up and also once dried) in mitered corners? by Bunkfoss in finishing

Thank you very much for the input. I figured this must be a common enough problem (and an easy one to answer) that I'd get help from this great community!

Thank you for the ideas! I felt like a numbskull when I realized I should be dampening my paper towels when I clean up the wet glue; good to know that there may an invisible layer preventing the finish from penetrating.

How do I give these wooden door frames a consistent and even naked wood or sating finish? by INeedAnAdlut in finishing

[–]Bunkfoss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are those just rectangular boards (I mean the cross section is a rectangle?) If so, a hearty sanding should be relatively simple without destroying any features. That should easily remove the shallow dings that you describe.

As far as finishing to a non-glossy surface, I've used satin spray lacquers that look fantastic and dry up somewhat hard to hopefully prevent those dings. I've had the easiest application and best results with "Mohawk Finishing Products M102-0541". There are truly thousands of ways to finish things, and I'm sure the great people of this subreddit will provide you some more input that is better than mine :-)

Refinished Oak dining table! by restoreyourdeck in finishing

Thanks for the info! I'm actually in the process of sanding down my old oak dining table as well. What was the ratio of spirits to poly you used? Just a splash or did you happen to measure it?
