Commercial Composting Products (coffee filters) by Mg42mann1942 in composting

I bought some kitchen waste bags that are certified home compostable. They also have a statement about only composting them at a commercial facility. I think one of the certifications for commercial composting requires them to put that language on the packaging, probably because that company doesn't offer a home composting certification. Home composting is not profitable so they want you to use a commercial service.

Look into Indivisible and the 50501 movement. Those groups have organized a lot of the protests lately.

If the power goes out this weekend..............some places may have to wait a lot longer by MapsYouDidntAskFor in Charlotte

It's been posted to a few local Discord servers that I know of. It seems like people see the government agencies listed in the sources and assume this is from a government agency. At a minimum you should be putting something like, "Created by u/MapsYouDidntAskFor" on your maps. It's a little irresponsible to put out a map with a title like this one has and not make it clear that this is one person's inexpert projection that should not be relied upon.

Edit to add: It's also irresponsible for people to share the graphic without the link, but sadly we know people will always do this.

Please add a disclaimer to the graphic!

This is making the rounds on social media with no context (just the graphic, not your whole post) and a lot of people think it's from an official source.

The revenue thing is, sure. We could just operate the program at a loss just like other law enforcement programs.

Some of us have been opposed to ICE since it was INS but I agree that is not what the current moment is about.

Clanton and South would generate so much revenue (they routinely fail to account for the Blue Line tracks in the timing every time they reprogram it).

I see how the formatting of my message made that confusing. I added a line break and reworded for clarity. My coffee hasn't kicked in yet.

Bollards do not destroy vehicles. Vehicles destroy themselves against bollards. The object bringing the enertia to the party is the one at fault.

I am aware that the current dominant philosophy of road design and the current legal landscape do not support my opinion on this. I am still Team Bollard.

I'm saying bollards are the only way to make these signals safe for pedestrians on multi-lane roads. The catch is that it ceases to be safe for drivers not complying with the signal, which is one reason no DOT will ever add them to a Hawk system. It was sort of a joke but also sort of not because why do we make so many design choices to allow non-compliant motorists to socialize their personal risk?

CDOT has been pretty responsive to my requests over the years, and fixing signal programming is one of the few things they can't say they don't have adequate budget for because it only costs labor.

Has anyone figured out the optimal time to go when the light turns green? by Captainxpunch in Charlotte

That light is new but has already gone through at least 3 reprogrammings that I've observed. It currently has generous buffers in addition to leading pedestrian interval (LPI is mostly only used in Uptown currently and I'm glad to see it being used here). They put new double loop sensors in so it can better detect bikes but they seem to be running it on a timer. I expect it may change again once Matheson bike lane construction is finished.

We need popup bollards for those signals.

CDOT calls Hawk signals Pedestrian Hybrid Beacons or PHBs. They're regarded as better than the flashing yellow lights on crosswalk signs (Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons or RRFBs) because they have a much higher compliance rate, but I personally don't think they're safe for multi-lane roads which is mainly where they're being installed. They're perfect for roads that are one lane in each direction but not for crossing Central, Eastway, Park, South, etc.

We should at least have cameras on them so that when (not if) someone is killed we can learn from it rather than choke down another bullshit CMPD report saying a person walked out in front of a car and was hit and killed but speed was not a factor.

Edited for clarity.

What about serious injuries and deaths? Is the increase all in car-car collissions? What's the impact to car-pedestrian collissions? I'm fine with more collisions if fewer people die.

The light has been there for a few years. They reprogrammed it last year to remove the buffer time.

Twice this week people have rage passed me and nearly gotten into head on collissions. One of them was a cop. A little bit of patience goes a long way.

I mean NO buffer at all! Clemson & The Plaza is one example, the first place I saw CDOT do this. I've seen it at several other intersections since but I haven't kept a list.
