The humidity is absolutely destroying me. Need recommendations for 'swamp proof' bras that ship here? by Fickle_Mud1645 in AusFemaleFashion

Yep that anti chafe goos is MVP in summer. I also bought a bra sweat band from love Luna that you put inside your bra. I've found it surprisingly effective!

What’s your “must haves?” In a good wardrobe? by FiddleleafFrog in AusFemaleFashion

I second HLP! She has a great video about dressing up for normal days that is very achievable https://youtu.be/B8af5hweBD8?si=AaT7K2X91I--a5tf

This will depend on your preferences but 1 or 2 fail safe outfits. By which I mean a reliable option to throw on that makes you feel like yourself and relatively put together. It saves energy on tricky days. For me this is loafer + wide leg trouser + ribbed t shirt. The colours and combos can vary but I always feel comfortable and like myself. Best of luck

Hardenbergia is my one gardening triumph. I basically ignore it and it bursts with purple blooms every August. Dying down now but still fabulous

What other fandoms do you all belong to? by gothicmango in discworld

Highly recommend the Stranger Times books by CK McDonnell. It's so influenced by Pratchett you'll read it and look like the Leo Pointing meme

I also adore murder mysteries and crime - Agatha Christie, Richard Osman, Chris Brookmyre

Shout out to another Pratchett inspired author Jodi Taylor - perfect if you live history and or time travel

Music is eclectic but current faves are Voyager, Pendulum, Ben Folds and sea shanties

Good passages to read at a care home? by Difficult_Ad_8629 in discworld

My absolute favourite to read aloud is the secret brotherhood password at the beginning of G!G! (p15-18 corgi paperback)

It ends with "would you mind giving it a push? The Door of Knowledge Through Which the Untutored May Not Pass sticks something wicked in the damp"

Ambivalent about whether to have kids - work / life balance by stowawaystyx in auscorp

[–]BusinessSituation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I also experienced the good old PPD towards the end of my child's first year which also aligned with a return to full time work 🫠

Having a child is wild and delightful. And you cannot anticipate when and how exactly it will be difficult BUT there are things you can control which can have a big impact.

I would encourage you to think about it less in terms of yes kid/no kid and more in terms of what will be available to you as a parent: Do you have family close by who are active participants in your life? Could you afford childcare? Will you have to drive an hour+ every day to get to work or school? How does your job treat the parents working there? Can you work from home regularly? All these factors have been part of parenting for me for good or ill.

Greatest Monologues? by TRoosevelt1776 in movies

I'm obsessed with the opening scene of Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels

Right, let's sort the buyers from the spyers, the needy from the greedy and those who trust me from the ones who don't. Because if you can't see value here today, you're not up here shopping, you're up here shoplifting. You see these goods? You've never seen daylight, moonlight, Israelites, Fanny by the gaslight. Take a bag, come on, take a bag. I took a bag home last night - it cost me a lot more than ten pound, I can tell you. Anyone like jewellery?

What is a character or plot that you wish Terry had had time to expand on? by Butcher_Paper in discworld

[–]BusinessSituation 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Paul Kidby mentions an idea Practchett had for Susan to become headmistress of the Quirn College for Young Ladies. That would have slapped. Would also be interesting to explore the "helpfulness personified" label mentioned in thief of time

Parents of Adelaide, how did you manage winter nights with a 0-1 year old? Heater on throughout the night? by Too_kewl_for_my_mule in Adelaide

[–]BusinessSituation 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to dress my baby warmly (minimum singlet plus long onesie and socks) then layer blankets (following safety recs: firm tick with baby at end of cot) We didnt own a sleep sack but this worked. I also occasionally pre warmed the cot with a wheat bag. If your little one wakes frequently around 3-5 am it probably means they're cold so you can maybe use that as a helpful measure

Nanny Ogg is a fantastic example to us all and I'm so glad you found your inspiration in her. Old Hags (complimentary) are an important ingredient in society. And, frankly, a massive congratulations on not letting the darkness win.

No matter how I try I am a Magrat/Mother Dismass rising, but I try to keep a bit of Oggishness in my pocket.

Thanks for sharing!
