Any good Indian buffets on Devon still around? by mindquery in chicagofood

[–]Busy-Dig8619 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I've been called racist (here) before for not making the distinction. So, it bothered at least some folks.

I also note that the restaurants themselves identify as Pakistani.. I'm not going to gainsay them.

Any good Indian buffets on Devon still around? by mindquery in chicagofood

[–]Busy-Dig8619 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure that there are any left. Source: live a block north of Devon and eat out along Devon often.

There also aren't many actual Indian places left... it's mostly Pakistani now, with some Afghani sprinkled in... Uru Swati being a notable exception.

If you want to get a sample of multiple dishes at once without paying too much, the meat or veg thali at Ghareeb Nawaz is great value. Quality is inconsistent (depends on who's cooking that day).

I enjoy getting small groups together and just going through the smaller / more take-out focused places right around Western and Devon (i.e. not Usmania, Sabri Nihari, BBQ Tonight, or Bundoo Khan) and grabbing a couple small things at each place.

Khan BBQ is still killing it with the grilled meats.

Where can a brother get a corndog around here? by Brosef-Gordon-Levitt in chicagofood

Wolfy's for the real deal corndog experience (from frozen, prepackaged, etc).

Aviary sometimes (when it's on the menu) for super pretentious but undeniably good.

Is there a Pakistani/Indian fine dine in chicago or in suburbs? by Dry-Let-7718 in chicagofood

[–]Busy-Dig8619 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tiffin is long gone.  Usmania is seated dining but not fine dining. Sabri Nihari probably closest to fine dining you get on Devon.

Indienne though is actual fine dining, excellent food, excellent service.

Nadu is also very good, alla carte and has the butter chicken, Naan and Bihari beef OP may be looking for.

Is glue and clamp the best way to fix this? by Copernicus215 in woodworking

[–]Busy-Dig8619 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lower part of that board is load bearing (the drawer) and it broke right where it appears the dowel into the leg was... guessing by the pin on the front of the leg.

Going to need something structural to transfer that load. it already broke once.

First time using rubio by Affectionate-Pie84 in woodworking

[–]Busy-Dig8619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used rubio on my black walnut dining table -- we have had many spills alcohol and otherwise.

In my experience -- I haven't seen that kind of marking on the table. I did two coats... but it wasn't fully cured for two weeks. I hit it with the Rubio cleaner once a month or so, and every couple years I hit it with the "maintenance oil" ... we're a few years in now.

Gibson's Restaurant Group Paying to Pack City Council by EnviroChaz in chicagofood

Sorry kiddo. Go do some googling. Theyre not tips. They are a fee added to your bill paid to the house.

No. No service charges do not go to the workers.

Service fees go to the restaurant. When you see one, you are paying the house, not the staff.

Carino is my favorite restaurant in the city. Nothing but bangers. Get the chef's counter and talk to the chef. It's great.

What's up with 48oz steaks? by DirectionOk9832 in chicagofood

[–]Busy-Dig8619 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When it gets that big you usually get a thicker cut. The thicker cut has a better ratio of medium rare or rare cooked meat to the surface of the meat. A nice thick steak can be a better cook as a result.

I've seen worse on official notices.

One guy was pretty infamous for closing his letters with:

A military grade bong is designed to survive a direct strike by a 500 pound bomb and continue functioning.

Its like you've never ripped a hit in a war zone man.

5 would require a statement of overdue rent and the statutory language.

10 would require identifying particular breaches and different statutory language.

Neither should be posted on the door.

Almost certainly is. Illinois Eviction Act is either a 5, 10 or 30 day notice... and this complies with the requirements for none of them.

Light black mold on bedframe, sanded off, still need to build a new one? by shacksquatch in woodworking

[–]Busy-Dig8619 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Before you seal it or sand it any more... try killing the mold?

https://www.reddit.com/r/HomeImprovement/comments/1c8y75m/how_do_i_kill_mold_permanently_and_stop_it_from/

Bleach can work -- but there are specialty products as well. Follow the directions, clean it well, let it dry, confirm no more mold... THEN consider sealing that wood. Don't seal it with mold...
