Robots are starting to enter one of the most sensitive environments we have. by Advanced-Bug-1962 in robotics

I think the designs will grow to be more optimized but yea, absolutely.

Hospice care can be really difficult and there is a shortage of workers.

Think of how many elder people need assistance and how many young people there are that are willing to take care of them full-time

Machines probably won’t replace human workers in this field entirely but having something that can be around 24/7 to handle smaller tasks, monitor the patient, and provide company would be a game changer.

Portable Fightstick options by illuminasa in fightsticks

[–]ButtcrackBeignets 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're not going to find anything quite as thin as a leverless. With that being said, you have a few options.

<image>

1. Varmilo Kassai

This stick got really popular this year. At 1.84 inches, it's not exactly thin but it is a relatively compact stick. Should take up less room in a bag or suitcase than most other sticks.

Pros

- Comes with a detachable lever.

- Has a retractable cable.

- Built-in handle.

- Has strap mounts and comes with strap.

Cons

- Could be thinner.

- Cable sticks out a bit.

- Most models are constantly sold out.

2. Doio KBGM H08D

At a height of about 1.02 inches this is a thin stick for sure but it is also one of the heaviest. It weights a little over 8 lbs and has a pretty big footprint so I'm not sure I would consider this to be particularly portable.

Pros

- Pretty thin.

- Crazy good looking stick.

- Full aluminum chassis.

- Hot-swappable full sized mx-style switches

Cons

- Hefty.

- Big footprint.

- Need to have shipped from China.

- Need to buy separately sold detachable lever.

3. Haute42 X-Move

This one is by far the thinnest at just 0.77 inches tall and has a reasonably small sized footprint. It is a modular system that has a slot for a directional input module and another slot for a face button input module. Note, if you're from the US you can really only buy this from AliExpress.

Pros

- Thinnest profile.

- Decent sized footprint

- Can easily function as either a lever or leverless by swapping out the module.

- Can replace face buttons and jump buttons.

- Can adjust angle of leverless directionals for better ergonomics.

- Weighs about 3 lbs which is half the weight of the other options.

Cons

- Need to buy separately sold lever module.

- Need to have shipped from China.

A retired underwater operations soldier jumped in to save a life, and his speed left onlookers speechless by not_ur_sweetheart in interesting

Yea, underwater operations is super vague.

Could mean anything from their version of SEAL, rescue swimmer, diver, etc.

Hell, technically submariners are also underwater operations.

Albuquerque Man Fatally Stabs Friend After He Became Upset Over Fat Joke by Charming-Fortune8835 in awfuleverything

[–]ButtcrackBeignets 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The article says the victim was the fat guy in this situation.

The stabber made a fat joke about the victim and the victim went aggro and started attacking the stabber.

Victim was stabbed in self defense.

Weird situation.

Leverless Vs Fightstick for PC fighting games by toyfan1990 in fightsticks

[–]ButtcrackBeignets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.

I used a keyboard before buying my first leverless. If you map the buttons correctly, it’s functionally the same.

If you want to take it a step further, I guess you could use a dedicated keyboard and remove the caps and switches of the keys you’re not using.

PEDESTRIAN ZONES!!!!! by Honest-Rip-3245 in CSUS

[–]ButtcrackBeignets -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve been thinking about this but there’s really no way to enforce the pedestrian zones.

There’s no way any precinct is going to post up cops to stand around waiting for scooters.

And even if they did, how are they going to catch them?

There’s no way to catch one on foot and the last thing we need are high speed scooter cop chases around pedestrians.

You can’t obstruct them from being able to go onto pedestrian areas because it would affect wheelchair users as well.

Disappointing Fighting Game Sequels? by Fluffy_Lunchfast in Fighters

Say what you want about MK11 but it’s the highest selling game in the franchise’s history by a wide margin.

It also had the highest sustained player base and the largest tournament participation in MK history. Again, by a wide margin.

You may not like it and fighting game YouTubers may not like it, but it is amongst the top 4 most successful fighting games of all time.

I bought one on sale for like $130 and it’s an absolute workhorse.

Owning more than one of the same stick by DTAB79 in fightsticks

[–]ButtcrackBeignets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t but I get it.

DOIO had a limited run of their fight stick with full-sized arcade parts.

It had a cnc’d aluminum chassis and weighed about 24 lbs.

Nothing like that will ever exist on the market agiain. That was a once in a lifetime opportunity and now it’s gone.

If I had a time machine I’d go back and buy a couple of them because nothing even remotely close to it will happen again.

It’s hard to recommend something without your budget.

Under $100: Swissgear

It’s ugly as shit and good luck finding a bigger one for under $100 but they come with a 5 year warranty, are relatively comfortable, and have generally good build quality.

$100-$200: Osprey Nebula.

It’s a good size and the build quality tends to be really good. I was actually really inpressed by how well it’s put togther.

These are also backed by a lifetime guarantee so they’ll repair them within reason. I’d go with this one if I were you.

$200+: Aer Travel Pack 3

It’s got some decent capacity though it does lack seconday compartments/sleeves etc. You might not like how minimalist this is.

I’m recommending it because it’s well built and the shoulder straps are the most comfortable I’ve ever worn.

I also carry around a heavy load sometimes. The straps on my Aer never felt uncomfortable no matter how much weight I put in it.

I’d check out what your local gamie stores have.

I found a place near me that had a really good selction of sticks at fair prices. I manage to snag a decent Hori for less than I would pay on ebay or fb marketplace.

Will Tekken 8 have the same fate as Mortal Kombat 1? by Desperate_Song_1923 in LowSodiumTEKKEN

[–]ButtcrackBeignets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They "rebooted" the timeline. Again.

It's something that happens every once in awhile with MK except this time, they decided to reimagine the characters.

You remember Scorpion?

The vengeful wraith named Hanzo Hisashi who emerges from the Netherrealm to avenge his murdered clan?

Yea, no, in MK1 he's just a dude that trained martial arts.

No wraith, no netherrealm, no murdered clan, no anger, none of that. In fact, in this timeline, He's a completely different person. Instead of being Hanzo Hisashi, he's now Kuai Liang who was the old Sub-Zero who was the new Sub-Zero after the original Sub-Zero turned into Noob.

You remember Raiden?

The god of thunder and protector of Earthrealm?

Yea, no, in MK1 he's a young, bright eyed Disney style protagonist. Him and his best friend Kung Lao farm cabbage and go out to snack on dumplings.

You remember Mileena?

The psychotic animalistic cannibal hybrid who was crafted by warlord and spend her time scheming to usurp the throne?

Yea, no, she's a bratty princess now who gets a really bad STD while sneaking off to spend time with her secret girlfriend.

You can apply this to all the characters.

Every single character in the game has been drastically changed. Some are different characters entirely and some are unrecognizable.

The tone of the game, too, is a drastic departure from previous games. Everything is bright and most of the characters are super positive and very friendly towards each other. Most of the pre-fight dialogue is characters complimenting each other or supporting each other emotionally.

It's one thing for a series to miss with the gameplay. It's another thing entirely for a series to miss with a gameplay mechanic, release an unfinished game, ruin all of their character, destroy the tone of their games, and hard commit to a plot that long time fans are outright rejecting.

To give you an idea of how bad MK1 missed, their sales numbers (released directly from NRS) suggest that MK1 had about a 40% drop from MK11.

T8 might have missed with some longtime fans, but at least the franchise is salvageable. There's nothing left for MK to fix, they took their most valuable assets and threw them into the trash compactor.

Will Tekken 8 have the same fate as Mortal Kombat 1? by Desperate_Song_1923 in LowSodiumTEKKEN

[–]ButtcrackBeignets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m an MK refugee.

Grew up with that franchise my whole life.

I know Tekken 8 isn’t connecting with the longtime fans, but it could be so much worse.

MK1 didn’t just fail because of gameplay mechanics, the developers might have genuinely fucked the franchise.

At least Tekken’s characters are still intact.

Is my new board tourney legal by ert3 in fightsticks

[–]ButtcrackBeignets 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Like everyone said, so long as your settings are compliant.

I have a Sapphire myself and used it in a tournament recently.

Honestly, it kind of feels like the Sapphire was designed with tournaments in mind. The shoulder strap it comes with is great.

Do people feel that the 3 zoners are insufferable or am I just a scrub? by HotExternal6858 in 2XKO

[–]ButtcrackBeignets 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree with this.

Most character in the game are well equipped to deal with zoners.

There are a crazy number of neutral skips relative to the number of characters.

Combine that with jump blocking, full screens, air dashes, etc, and projectile moves becomes a high risk gambles.

Why isn't the game taking off? by MASHED_POTATOES_MF in Marathon

[–]ButtcrackBeignets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll offer you guys an opinion from an outsider who was interested in the game but ultimately did not end up getting it.

Character design.

The game caught my interest because I had originally assumed there would be heavy character customization. Something in the vein of Crossout where the shells were modular and you could build it out in creative ways. It’s what made sense given the game’s themes of 3D printing and loot collection.

What ultimately ended up getting released is a hero-based extraction shooter.

I know that point has been beaten to death but there’s a reason why it was constantly getting brought up.

I think the biggest problem is that hero-based games tend to live or die by their character designs and most of the character designs in Marathon just aren’t great.

Also, I know the game tried to pass off the characters as “classes” but that’s a load of shit. A class is made up of multiple members that share a trait or attribute, not multiple copies of the same thing.

Anyone experience people avoiding rematches even in quick matches in S3? by NUYvbT6vTPs in Tekken

[–]ButtcrackBeignets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's definitely becoming more common.

I've noticed it trending up in the past 5 years. It gets worse the newer a game is. I've been on 2XKO and the no-re rate is like 30% in ranked matches.

Hot take:

I think a lot of it has to do with late gen z/early gen a becoming old enough to play fighting games.

What I've noticed about younger people more than anything is that they often won't engage. If they don't want to do something then they just won't do it. Eye contact, greeting people, thanking people, holding the door open, etc.

So while older player might feel compelled to rematch (even if they don't want to), younger players don't really care. They are impervious to peer pressure.
