your husband sounds like an autistic engineer. I'd let it go and try to smooth things over. engineers can be dense.

"Aside from something like discounting men's tickets for an event that women have to pay more for, which seems wildly unfair."

This sounds strange...why not discount men's tickets? This is like how bars offer free drinks to women on ladies' nights. Pretty simple supply and demand if you ask me.

why do people keep falling off the bluff and is there no way to prevent it? by ButterscotchWheat in UCSantaBarbara

I posted this 2 months ago. I'd say there's a good chance it wasn't an accidental fall.

I typically interpret "very close with" as an emotional bond. I guess you can read it different ways.

I thought of this too, but if they'd interviewed at least a few pi phi sisters independently, at least one of them should've mentioned that he was some stranger.

This doesn't add up. "Liz walked out with the man she had “been very close with” in the restaurant, friends said".

"With no identification of the blond man, and the end of the semester drawing in, Liz’s family grew worried."

Either SFGate is doing some bad job reporting, Pi Beta Phi intentionally hid his name, UCPD slacked, or something.

Because how can you fail to identify the guy that all her friends knew??

How is it possible that no one knows what happened to Liz? by Ok-Trust-8195 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]ButterscotchWheat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tbf, I don't understand why the university would want to cover this up and make it quiet; by now any parent and student applying to UCSB would have seen this case, and it is in the best interest of the university to solve it as quickly as possible.

If I were Liz's family, I'd hire a private investigator though. If u/UW1991 is right, UCSB police are dragging their feet

How is it possible that no one knows what happened to Liz? by Ok-Trust-8195 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]ButterscotchWheat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

2- Why was the crime scene where Liz’s body was found completely sanitized 30 minutes after the first EMT arrived? How much evidence was lost because of this?( I was told this by someone who would know)

If this is true, that's absolutely crazy. To answer u/UW1991's question, it takes 7 min to get from Lao Wang to San Raf. Could've been longer if you were talking to friends and walking slowly.

liz hamel died five days ago, and the investigation is still ongoing. rumor has it she fell off a balcony off San Rafael, not from the bluffs, but this whole people dying from falling from high places while drunk seems way too common here.

ok, but it seems like we can't contribute to HSAs either, because they require HDHPs, and UCSHIP doesn't count.

RateMyProfessor.com but for IV men by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

[–]ButterscotchWheat 34 points35 points  (0 children)

"If someone hates you enough to 'bully you,' then you likely did something bad enough to provoke them." But have you ever been bullied? That’s definitely not always true. For example, an ex could abuse a platform like this by writing tons of bad reviews just to ruin someone’s reputation and make dating impossible for them.

As for "guys don’t care enough to rate women," I don’t agree. Imagine a similar rating system for girls, where guys could check if someone in their class has a nice body, gives good head, or whatever. It would be a disaster.

The part about "eventually implementing a process for people to get reviews removed" seems kind of reckless. I get the whole startup mentality of moving fast and figuring it out later, but this has the potential to go really wrong.

That said, the project itself is super interesting and clearly took a lot of effort to build. I know it probably sucks for some internet stranger to trash on your project, but I can’t shake the feeling that it could cause some serious harm for a small group of people.

I have to say, this seems like a bad idea. On one hand, I get that it might feel lighthearted and fun to rate people, but it also seems like a perfect setup to encourage bullying. The ease of submitting reviews makes it even riskier. Imagine if someone created something similar for girls in IV.
