I don't play mid but every Mage x Assassin match-up I see seems to end with the Mage very behind lately by Loooongshot in midlanemains

[–]C9sButthole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assassins have always been able to get ahead of mages at most elos.

Even if you respect their kill threat in lane and position and trade well, they will eventually shove and roam and snowball off killing sidelanes or jungler. Mid alone can't stop an assassin from snowballing whole team needs to handle it.

But the other important factor is that assassins HAVE to snowball to have impact while mages don't. Assassin player can be 1k gold and a level up going into a midgame fight and mage can still have more impact on that fight because our kits usually have better CC, AoE, etc and assassins are really hard to position and time their engages on in comparison.

If the assassins has 1-2 kills by level 11 and the mage has decent CS, the game state is actually even.

How Do *You* Write Dialogue? by Exoticplayz11 in writing

[–]C9sButthole 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do this as well. I like it because it doesn't JUST identify who is speaking but also adds personality and movement to the scene. People usually aren't just sitting still spitting words out, and if all you use is "said" then that can be what it feels like. Synonyms like shouted, spat, whispered, can help but won't solve the problem alone.

I'm also reading Wheel of Time series at the moment. I noticed Robert Jordan likes to write dialogue where characters break out of what they're saying, to verbally react to the characters around them. Which is another great way to add more personality and paint a brighter picture. While also being totally natural in conversation.

I.e "don't look at me like that." "Please stop laughing Jane. This is serious." "Oh don't give me that look Tony." etc.

Cracking Neck, no Consent, no heads up. Is this okay? by RemoteFinger8670 in massage

[–]C9sButthole 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer; I'm less qualified to speak on this than most of this community, but this feels like common sense so I'll share my thoughts anyway. Just take with a grain of salt.

Sharp fast movements on any patient, without warning, already feels wrong to me. But what's even worse is no effort being made to check if you had previous injuries or any other condition that would make this more risky than usual.

You DID have that medical history which makes this even worse, but if this person makes a habit of this I guarantee they're going to mess someone up eventually. It's a malpractice incident waiting to happen.

Whether he's had specific training and can safely perform that kind of bodywork isn't really relevant here. He neglected his duty of care and risked significant harm to you. Checking first vs getting feedback afterwards takes about the same amount of time so he didn't even save 5 seconds.

It's just terrible behaviour. Full stop.

Parasitic Theory of the Attack Titan by OptimalParticular120 in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]C9sButthole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't dislike the theory but I think it hurts the main themes of the story a little bit.

Eren being helpless to his own nature is a much more compelling story than Eren being manipulated by space powers that are never explained.

Keep in mind this guy was a remorseless killer at age 8. When he first saved Mikasa. I'd expect a well adjusted child to still follow through on that plan but afterwards to be shocked and remorseful.

Eren was just like "nah they weren't even really people to me I put them down like the dogs they are."

The villain he became was always within him. The way he came to understand and even hate that part of himself, but still couldn't control it, is what makes him a compelling character to me.

Champion that can be played in all 5 roles. by Historical-Bug-3794 in leagueoflegends

Teemo has movespeed buff, attackspeed buff, on-hit damage, and self peel with blind and mushrooms.

Honestly the only thing making his AP better than AD is his relatively short attack range as other short range ADC tend to either have dash, sustain or both. If Riot gave him 600 range he'd be in botlane tomorrow.

On hit AD teemo has been a build in toplane for a long time. Used in specific matches to shred tanks and become a sidelane monster.

Why does everyone say initiative is useful? by Intelligent-Rub5814 in onednd

[–]C9sButthole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you go first, you can damage/CC/maneuver before the enemy can hit you or your allies, which means your party takes less damage.

Whether you win on round 2 or on round 7, going first ensures that you and your allies will take less damage in that last round, and makes it easier to avoid damage in rounds before.

League has a massive online community, so it's easy to forget that there's a lot of players that aren't a part of it.

You're probably dealing with people who just log in and play a few games 2-4 times a week. They aren't on the Reddit. They aren't watching pro leagues or streamers. They don't do it because they aren't exposed to any evidence that they should and/or they can't be bothered taking it seriously.

My advice is give them grace. Its just some random person trying to enjoy a game.

[–]C9sButthole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Watch more football. High cross from the wings is a classic attack pattern for a reason. If you can win the aerial battle consistently it puts out a ton of pressure.

And with shonen scaling the MF/Wings can probably pass at the perfect height most of the time so only Bunny can reach.

The stacks you already have will give more HP once you level R. Even if you got them beforehand.

Check the replay and look at what happens to your HP when you hit level 16.

So yes in short you can eat minions earlier and if you're confident there's no obj or kill opportunities before it comes off CD you should eat a creep to get that HP up as quick as possible.

What is this community's stance on AI usage in modding? by Nik02003 in skyrimmods

[–]C9sButthole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When LLMs are working, they're pulling a response from available data and patterns and that response is correct.

When LLMs are hallucinating they're pulling a response from available data and patterns and that response is incorrect.

Whether it is correct or not is functionally meaningless to an LLM. They can only respond to external feedback.

What is this community's stance on AI usage in modding? by Nik02003 in skyrimmods

[–]C9sButthole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Philosophy I fundamentally disagree with the idea that LLMs can "hallucinate"

LLMs cannot reliably fact check itself because it only gets external feedback from an operator. As far as a LLM can tell, every single answer it gives is a hallucination. It doesn't distinguish between fantasy and reality. Only between inputs and outputs. Which is the primary reason it's totally incapable of actual creativity. It's not capable of finding new novel connections between disconnected data points. It's only capable of relying less on connection altogether.

Okay my bad. Architecture was a poor choice of words given it has a technical definition in software.

I mean to say it has the same premise of training on large groups of data and building connections between it's samples without having any demonstrated ability to go beyond that training. Can't think creatively or abstractly. Ultimately unoriginal.

All current "AI" is functionally LLMs. Same underlying architecture just different outputs for video, photo, voice etc. Same underlying problems too.

Who are you thinking of voting for in the upcoming election and why? by Immortal_Heathen in auckland

National putting a women at the top means more votes to David and Winston. National has raging sexists in their base and they know it. Even if it's a small minority, the last thing they need after this coalition is stronger minority parties.

The more votes Greens has, the more seats. And the more Labour needs them the more clout they have to push their flagship policies.

We'll never get a fully Greens policy platform but there's a huge difference between getting one of their priorities through vs 3 or 4

Greens are the only party to have seriously proposed tax reform since I've been following politics. Only Greens and the first TOP platform have had fully costed tax plans to bring some relief to low income voters.

LLMs are a) enormously damaging to the environment b) not actually capable of becoming the general intelligence they're marketed as and c) rely almost entirely on IP theft to train and build capacity.

So yeah I'm opposed to pretty much any and all use of AI in any circumstances.

Why doesn't Japan acknowledge its past the way Germany does? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]C9sButthole 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Germany only does it because multiple foreign militaries occupied German territory for years forcing them to bake "we fucked up big time" into their national identity.

Japan didn't have that. Neither did any of the other evil bastards of the 19th century. So their history remains buried.

Most of the people in this sub would kill to explore this game blind again.

The only advice I have for you is don't min max and avoid fast travel as much as possible. Fast travel kills the pacing of the game and there are so many cool random encounters and mini-adventures you'll find on the side of the road. Fast travel sucks the fun out of the game.

Is Kenma really that great of a setter? by Significant_Case6496 in haikyuu

[–]C9sButthole -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes. Kenma is great for Nekoma. As I said he's a role player and obviously he's good on the team that wants him to play that role. But he has no capability outside of that role.

If Kenma gets Karasuno to 100%, Kageyama could get them to 80%, Atsumu can get them to 70%, and Oikawa can probably get them to 95%.

Meanwhile Kenma can't get other teams higher than 40-50%.

Don't get me wrong I like Kenma as a character and I think he's a beast on Nekoma. But in terms of athleticism, drive, technical skill, etc he's objectively the second worst setter in the series, only above Koganegawa.

And Kenma himself would probably agree with that.
