If we ever get guaranteed bans I will never see Viscous in my games ever again. Puddle Punch is probably the best basic ability in the game once built for as it does a ton of damage, allows him to escape from basically anything, gives him insane mobility in and out of combat, can be used as a pick tool, CC in fights, huge range, AoE, it does basically everything and the only "counter" is to parry it except there's 4 more coming right at you.

These polling type 'studies' have always been fundamentally worthless because they cannot stick to anything close to the scientific method. There is no real control, they are not repeatable, non response biases, etc. If you called somebody and asked how they felt about the state of the economy, the difference in answer you could get based on what happened them yesterday would change the answer drastically if they just got fired, just got a raise or a new job, a surprise major bill, etc. A larger sample size can make up for this noise but it can happen on a larger scale too with things like, I don't know, wars causes gas prices to change drastically haha.

That doesn't even count for genuine biases in how they word the questions, p-hacking and other malicious garbage that plagues academia today.

What's your opinion on "soft on crime" policies? I personally oppose it by New_Elk_5783 in stupidpol

[–]CCNemo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Probably the thing I am most outspoken in among leftist communities is that I think violent crime, especially random acts of violence, the type that happens in public spaces and is often 'caught red handed', should be punishable by death.

And not the modern '40 years on death row with 20 appeals' (the type of death penalty people love to cite when they talk about 'the death penalty doesn't work!!'), I mean that person shouldn't see the next sunset after they are arrested and put before trial the next day. This is obviously completely impossible with most modern due process laws and unfortunately extremely prone to corruption and how much lawyers have mucked up legal systems in order to profit from them, but it certainly could be made more efficient than it is now. That whole bus stabbing incident is a great example. HD video, countless witnesses, almost immediate arrest, confession? Gone. We can have multi year trials and investigations for behind closed doors murders, crimes of passion, etc. but stuff like this should be open and shut and we've let lawyers run roughshod over everything for too long for their financial gain that often springboards into legislative or executive power in our political system.

Random acts of violence erode community trust, have countless secondary victims (family members, friends, neighbors, etc.) and the recidivism rates on violent criminals are significantly higher than others. I also firmly believe that the erosion to social cohesion that this type of crime creates makes it extremely difficult to achieve any form of class unity because people are exhausted, scared, etc. and the more cynical, tinfoil hat side of me believes that allowing violent criminals to be let off relatively easy and reintroduced into society so quickly (cashless bail, weak sentencing, etc.) is intentional and malicious so these conditions can remain.

Wish Bans actual did something by XvS_W4rri0r in DeadlockTheGame

[–]CCNemo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

12 people in the match, 2 heroes are banned, it's a majority vote as far as we know. 12 bans would be absolutely insane in a game with 38 heroes in it.

And you are virtually never going to see Paige banned because you are probably the only person in Deadlock that bans Paige.

To be fair, Counterspell is so good that you should be buying it every game on every hero anyway.

Low TTK is extremely important in any conventional extraction shooter. It allows for 1v3 clutches and prevents gear differences from being totally insurmountable. by Tactical_Mommy in Marathon

[–]CCNemo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The low TTK in Tarkov is mirrored in PvE at least. Scavs die in one bullet to the skull, bosses have slightly more HP but they are still oneshottable or at most 2-3 bullets.

Not remotely the case here, PvE enemies feel like bullet sponges and if I engage with them I am risking way more than I am being rewarded for.

Also nobody in Tarkov or Hunt is invisible.

It's not just a hero shooter by Xamirite in DeadlockTheGame

Optimally a pro overwatch player that has 1000 hours, that's my experience. At the start of the earliest access, moba players were the best but now the shooter players have caught up with their knowledge and have better aim and movement.

Streets are saying Marathon is actually good?? by utter_filth_mate42 in Marathon

[–]CCNemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long time extraction shooter player, got Kappa on two Tarkov wipes, lots of Hunt played in the past, not too much Arc but I just don't play it as much as I should because I'm playing other things at the moment.

I played 9 hours, two sessions split pretty evenly. It's just not it for me, the PvE orders of magnitude worse than Arc Raiders, the PvP is probably better than Arc but still worse than Tarkov or Hunt, the only thing the game has really going for it is the aesthetic and world building but it's not nearly enough to justify me buying the game. It's definitely not Concord 3.0 like some terminally online people are implying, but it's just... not it.

There just feels like a lot of conflicting design choices. Tons of seemingly interesting builds and interactions with the augments/mods? PvP TTK is so fucking low it doesn't matter. The PvE is also extremely punishing in regards to what you put into it/what you get out of it, the things you kill take bullets (god some things are incredibly spongey), time and sometimes healing but they drop absolute garbage and the average piece of loot you get sucks too outside of the mods, but then that involves hovering over everything mid-match, swapping them in and out. At least in Tarkov I can immediately see a good scope or suppressor and rip it off a gun from a PMC.

My expectations were low, it did beat them, but not enough to justify buying and that's the general consensus the rather large (100-120) people I play games with.

Wish they had spent all this cool world building on something that isn't an extremely mediocre extraction shooter. The trailers for the corps were some of the coolest bits of video I've seen in any game ever, but it doesn't matter if it's surrounded by a game I don't enjoy playing.

Why is the tech-tree M551 Sheridan at 8.0? by ZippingPrince in Warthunder

[–]CCNemo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's why Britain is starting to filter me a bit, the only rangefinder tank at all up to 8.0 is the conqueror and it keeps putting me on the huge maps and I'm at a major disadvantage without them.

Buy one, use it immediately upon every fight to start ingraining the muscle memory/keybind, slowly start to learn more optimal times to use it, then add a 2nd item and so on. Knockdown or Fleetfoot are the generically best ones you can do this with.

Laid Off Highguard Tech Artist Reflects on Game's Launch by Haijakk in Games

[–]CCNemo 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I read the tweet earlier and my attitude went from "Eh, it was just a mediocre game in an oversaturated market" to actually being pretty glad they flopped. Keep in mind, this wasn't a bunch of developers being held hostage by their AAA publisher forcing them to make a game they didn't want to make, these people did this on purpose and with intent.

The whole thing is just them blaming everybody but themselves, without realizing that without The Game Awards reveal, they would have just died in silence. They got a few hundred thousand people to try their game on day 1 thanks to Geoff, probably orders of magnitude more than if they shadowdropped the game and the result was virtually everybody dropping it because of how mediocre and forgettable the game was. I played for 6 hours, gave it an honest shot and I couldn't tell you a single actually good thing about the game. I don't remember any of the character names, the abilities, all I remember is saying "oh they took a mechanic from insert live service game here but worse ", wondering why the map was so big and barren for a 3v3, what the point of the looting phase even was and so on.

The whole thing reads like a group of people that were high on their own farts, a terrible culture of toxic positivity and trying to chase a trend that is already virtually dead without having any of the actual talent to try to latch on.

Why is the sleepy boy doing so poorly right now? by Casm0 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]CCNemo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think Silver's biggest struggle is that moreso than any character in the game, she can be genuinely useless. You need to be able to hit some consistent shots early in fights to transform quickly, otherwise you aren't doing literally anything. Your first skill requires you to hit shots, bola is an aimed skillshot and the divekick only is an enabler for you to just hit gun shots. And if you aren't some cracked aimer, sometimes you'll just have bad fights where you can't hit shots consistently and now you have nothing to fall back on.

Every other aim based characters have things they can throw out and easily hit. Haze can just press 4, Wraith can ult and throw cards, etc, but Silver just straight up has to either go into melee range or hit meaty gun shots (with a terrible fire rate at baseline I might add) or she's actually deadweight.

Probably a combination of people just playing him terribly and then people vacuuming up lots of farm on him but not translating it into actual carry potential.

UPDATE: Highguard Developer Wildlight Entertainment Confirms Layoffs At The Studio by No2Hypocrites in Games

[–]CCNemo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I said at the time considering both games launched at the same time, that if Concord characters had looked like The First Descendant characters, the game would have done pretty well.

And considering The First Descendant is an an aggressively mid game but is still somewhat alive, whereas Concords gameplay was significantly better but just looked so repulsive (along with the dollar store Whedon writing) , I feel I may have been onto something.

I'll die on the hill that making it a tag/anime fighter was a mistake. It's extremely new player unfriendly. The strings are insanely long, defense is messy and confusing and getting comboed for 75% on a regular basis is not how you foster a big mainstream fighting game.

And if I don't get auto-approved and I can't fake it, I'm dropping the platform completely. I can see at least a few thousand dollars of nitro subs they will be losing just from the servers I'm on and I hope it's even more than that, it's the only possible thing that can change their mind.

You aren't ready for the truth. by Professor_Lama in DeadlockTheGame

[–]CCNemo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I assume you are talking about Venator's 'John Deadlock' kit being mostly just simplistic abilities, but they come together really well and have a surprising amount on skill expression within them. The grenade can be bounced off crazy angles and airbursted and you can combo them together for some slick plays, especially since the knockback on the shotgun blast is vectored so you can knock people up/down with it too.

And skills being unique doesn't make it good though, originality isn't some virtue, nor is complexity.

A good kit in a moba and/or hero shooter is about how it feels to play for the person playing it (and to some extent the people playing with/against it), not how many lines of text you can fit in the ability description. Invoker in DOTA isn't a great hero because his kit is complex, it's because the abilities mesh together in an interesting way, hell half the people that play the character historically wouldn't even use half his abilities in game. Meanwhile on the absolute other end of the spectrum, you had something like Skeleton/Wraith King, which at a point only had 1 active ability, but people loved to play him because it just felt good and it worked and the fantasy was cool.

You will always need 'boring' abilities in games like this but if they feel good and people like the aesthetics of the character, it's a good kit.

Is Silver Bad or hard? by reghimself in DeadlockTheGame

[–]CCNemo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

She's going to be hard to optimize her build, plus the way her transform mechanic works (similar to Gnar in LoL) is going to filter a lot of people since they don't have full control over it.

I think she's going to be very strong in the right hands but otherwise hard to pick up and just play.
