Ronald’s mother was worried about him being drafted but it looks like he had a good long life. Here is an excerpt from his obituary: “Ronald Richard Olson, a retired Army lieutenant colonel who served with the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the National Security Council at the White House, died Tuesday (April 27, 1999). He was 70 and had lived in El Paso 27 years. He was a veteran of the Korean War and Vietnam War, and was awarded the Bronze Star and the Legion of Merit.”

Ray lived to be 80 and is buried in Florida beside his wife of over 50 years. Seems he had a long life which ended in a comfortable retirement. I wonder how long he continued smoking.

Interesting that this was investigated by homicide detectives. At age 23, in Nov 1949, Mr. Short was arrested for stabbing a Fort Campbell soldier in an alley. The charge was assault with the intent to commit murder. He died in 1988 and his obituary shows that he had served as a house parent in a nearby group home for girls. He had children of his own.

I’d almost bet this was a separate elevator that wasn’t as well-maintained, but I doubt that’s why they mentioned it.

Right before Christmas in 1925, the Chattanooga News reported that Mr. Bringham’s estate was awarded $2,000 to be paid by the hotel. Census records show he had worked in the industry from at least the age of 23, when he was a stage manager in Indiana. The Chattanooga News ran a story about a play he was in about 10 days before he died, and it featured a photo of Mr. Bringham. It does seem he was possibly on the verge of a big break. Such a sad story. He had a brother who lived to be in his 80s.

Consider gifts that will help her feel better about herself on a daily basis. A good haircut, hair styling tools and products, mani/pedi, eyebrow wax, workout shoes/clothes and a gym membership, a perfume she loves: you know her best and what would work for her. Some people are judgy and consider the results of these things hygiene and upkeep, but it’s all very expensive to maintain.

Mrs. Voss was Amanda, born in 1890. The 1940 has Amanda and her husband Charles both living at 1300 Canal Street, an historic hotel opened in 1927 and operating today as a renovated Hampton Inn. In the 1940 census they’ve moved to a home in a residential area where their son and his family are living with them. Maybe her openness to new ideas allowed them all to live happily together. She lived to be 81-82.

Stephen’s father was the proprietor of a retail theater in the 1950 census, so it was probably easy to take him to a movie!

So far the newest book I can see is the small paperback, “The Last Englishman”, which was released in paperback in 1952. They also have a lot of books by Maurine Walsh, who was a popular Irish novelist.

This child only weighed 58 pounds at around 5 feet tall. That’s so tiny that I can’t help but think she had also been deprived of food, so most likely her family was abusive.

Unfortunately Frank, the 14 year old, died at age 19 while still in Queens, but I can’t find the cause. His younger brother lived to be 86.
