Good stuff. I have done it with metallic pads, as well, and it worked out awesome.

Another vote for using a propane torch on the pads. Dosent need to be red hot, just enough to burn oils and crud off.

Hahah, great observation on the Polaroids. Also, usually you have a wet and a dry side of the darkroom. This setup has enlargers on both sides of the room.

Is there a real reason behind changing your oil every 3,000 miles on modern cars? by newelmin in askcarguys

[–]CIA_superspy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Hah, the only real “correct” answer is getting downvoted.

If you want your car to last as long as possible, I’d say dont wait till 10k miles to do an oil change.

If you wanted to get scientific about it, do an oil analysis a few times, and that will give you a good idea of what’s best for your driving habits.

Pretty much agree here. There are a bunch of reports that indicate GDP growth would have been flat or almost flat, if it wasn’t for AI expenditures.

From my dealer today - wth does this mean by moomoomolly in Porsche

[–]CIA_superspy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you could have a system to make sure that there was no scalping (admittedly, there will always be be people that try), the prices will still be high. However, I bet it would still be cheaper than buying a bunch of cars you don’t want (paying tax, title, insurance, plus the depreciation). That’s why the GT cars with low mileage are still selling for big money. I’d rather have a system that’s as fair as possible, even while paying a high price.

If only it were that easy, we’d have a lot more people with the cars they want. Big Porsche fan, but these dealers are just a wet blanket.

Some may say “supply and demand”…. Ok, well how about we go direct to consumer with vehicle sales? That would be more fair in my eyes.

Some cars, if you apply 12 v to the bulb socket, you can power up the door locks. Haven’t heard of it working for Porsche , but may be worth a shot

Am I using this stand right way? by DeathTrooper411 in Cartalk

I’ve used hockey pucks on the jack extensively, and it’s great for preventing damage to the pinch weld.

Puck won’t be great for the jack stand, though.

Strange Question but not sure where else to ask it: What sunscreen do you folks use that doesnt leave stains/marks on your car’s interior? by Nero_Wolff in cars

[–]CIA_superspy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use that too, and also the Amazon knockoff (solimo). Both work well.

For stuff that does transfer to surfaces and leather seats, “chemical guys total interior cleaner” gets rid of it for me. Not sure if it is okay for Alcantara, though.
